DD's 16th Birthday Tablescape Pics

I haven't been around much this week or last. Last week we flew to Dallas for a 3-day weekend to visit friends, and with Emily's 16th birthday coming yesterday, I've been rushing around getting ready for it since I got back.

We always start our birthdays off with a family breakfast and, if we have time, gifts. Since yesterday was a school day for her, she opened just a couple gifts before heading off. I used her main gift & bag as a starting point to a tablescape: pink & blue with Spring flowers, as she'd requested.

Pink roses (her favorites) were her first gifts from her dad & I. After all, a girl doesn't turn Sweet Sixteen every day :~)

For her special birthday dinner last night, I used her favorites of all my dishes and placemats.

New napkins found at GW for $1 each, paired with my new ceramic napkin rings. I've been waiting for months to finally be able to use them!

As I've mentioned before, we don't like a lot of things in the middle of our table while we're eating, so I just used my pink waterlily candle holders on a crocheted doily and her birthday card from us.

Down towards the end of the table a bit, I used her gift/bag, her roses and my new ceramic Welsh Mountain Lamb on a vintage embroidered runner my mother made:

. . . along with her requested dessert, Petits Fours . . . and no, I didn't make them! I bought them at a French bakery in town, along with our breakfast pastries:

Sooooo, what did my beautiful, fairy-like daughter request for her special birthday dinner? A delicate Croque Monsieur, perhaps? Or maybe Chicken Salad with a side of poached asparagus and a fresh croissant?

No . . . Brats with sauerkraut, potato salad and a fresh Caesar Salad (LOL)! I love that she's definitely her own person! BTW, this was my plate; we don't serve beer to underage kiddos ;^D

Oh, and that special birthday gift? A new pair of boots. This is New Mexico!

Lynn, I can remember when DD was only 7 years old~wasn't that just 'last year'?!LOL Her birthday dinner sounds perfect to me, but I love sauerkraut too~it's one of those things you either love or hate, and unbelieveable a 16 year old would like it. LOL The table is so pretty and very feminine~seems she might love 'cottage style', huh?

I'm a lover of boots too, and those are wayyyyyyy cool! Hope her day is x-tra special and *you* enjoy watching her happiness. They grow up way too fast. ;o)

Lynn, belated Happy Birthday wishes to you. I need to add you on my list so I can hopefully remember to post birthday wishes for you next year. (If I can remember to check my list that is!) Sounds like you had a really fun day of shopping. Love the nice reindeer, he will look great for a centerpiece or on your mantel. Thanks, Everyone for the kind words. DD, I've studied so many of your tablescapes, trying to learn what your secrets are. So praise from you makes my day! Thanks Luvs, I looked at my table again after reading your post and discovered that there is one color I didn't use on my table that was on the bird.......PINK!!! The very next time Eli is here we will get right on it! LOL Nonacook, I am out of space inside now! I've talked myself out of dishes a lot, but sometimes something really grabs you (like these saucers) and DD was there with me encouraging me to get them. I'll blame her! Mo, DH and DS were talking about floating down the river again to fish and DH said they could do it but would need to get the oars off of my table. The only word out of my mouth was "NOT!" Jay, Thanks. You have to train them while they're young! Right? I'll be sure to deliver that hug from you. Karen, To have one of my tables included in your photo album is the GREATEST!!!!!! Mo, thank you for your many compliments & comments! I can totally relate to the time it takes to look at all the links for TT. I used to find it time consuming to just look at them but now I feel I have to comment on them, it is overwhelming! I'm not sure if I am cut out for blogland when I still have to go to work 30 hours/week. I agree that those glass vase/candleholders are so versatile. I am so glad I got the set of three and then found two more on a clearance table as one in the trio was broken. There are so many things you can do with them especially as the inserts have flat bottoms and you can use them separately. I am happy that my tablescape brought back fond memories for you. It sounds like it was a wonderful place to live! Luvs, you are so sweet and one of the reasons, I would never leave this forum! It is such a caring "family" here and like you said, we've had a lot of fun sharing our passion for tablescapes as well as some personal aspects of our lives. I just KNOW we would be friends in "real life"! Thanks for your compliments on my 'scape, I agree the faux grass "made" it and I got that idea from a tablescape book my son gave me for my birthday. Jay, I was undecided as to whether to post my blog entry here as I thought it might seem like I was just trying to "show it off" twice but you have made me feel like I did the right thing. Living near Daytona Beach must have been terrific! (never been there but have seen pics!) Sameboat, thank you! Those placemats were a gift from my DD for Mother's Day but I know she got them at Walmart. At first, I was thinking an Asian setting with them but I like how they went with the beach theme too. The reason I didn't go with the fan-folded napkins was that they wouldn't lay right on the placemat but I kind of liked the idea and may use it again sometime. Nana, They get older and we don't. Some kind of phenomena. But you best be getting that table set to celebrate! We do have one birthday table tradition. When my boys were little, they did the Make-A-Plates every year. I have "service for 12," and we use them on a linen tablecloth, with linen napkins, sterling silver, and crystal stemware. The glasses are actually very gaudy, (MIL Christmas gift many moons ago), but it adds something to the "tablescape." (I love that word.)

Lynn...the roses are so BEAUTIFUL...perfect for your beautiful DD's 16th celebration! I love her color choices for the t'scape & I LOL over the menu! The centerpcs are perfect for the occassion & your GW pink napkins & new rings are lovely...along with that CUTE Welsh mt. lamb! I'm sure DD is indeed feeling VERY SPECIAL! TFS your day! Jeanne S.

Oh Lynn, I love your napkin rings! Did you buy them as a set with the candle holders? They look gorgeous!

And oh... We're fan here of such boots... Are they Santiago? Well, we generally call all "western" style boots Santiago, lol.

Knew you were gearing up for your daughter's 16th birthday, so hadn't been worried that you hadn't been around for a bit. Nice that you squeezed in a little trip too. Lovely BD bash! Those roses are just gorgeous! Love the napkins and the pretty rings too--and I love brats! Happy Birthday to your sweet girl!

Properity: no, the boots are Tony Lama's, the style is Vaquera II in Santa Fe Bark.
I've had the lotus/waterlily candle holders for many years; I found the napkin rings last Fall someplace in town, but I can't recall where now. Kohls, perhaps?

Everything looks great on DD's BDay table. Love the pale pink and cobalt blue together. Sweet that your little lamb fit right in.

I haven't had Petits Fours for probably 25 years and they look so yummy. Thanks, now I will have to go find something for my sweet tooth. DH and I love brats with sauerkraut and always have one while we're camped at the fair.

Nice looking Tony Lama's. Did you ask if you could use them if we do another Billy The Kid or Western Table?LOL

Her roses are beautiful. But if I were younger, I'd fight her for those boots!! WOW! I'll have to settle for you reminding me of my own Tony Lama days. ;o)

Those napkins are perfect for your beautiful napkin rings!
And I'm happy to see the lovely lamb again. He's such a neat character!

MM: I know, I am loving that lamb and pull him out every chance I get.

Punk: I could use MINE or DH's for a Western table, but I doubt DD would let me use hers ;^D As for Petits Fours, IMO they look much better than they taste, although DD tells me that the chocolate ones are extra yummy this time.

Karen, of course I'll adopt you ;`P . . . or just stop by anytime and I'll fix you some brats. DH will only eat them a couple times a year, as he's watching his cholesterol, but You, DD & I can eat them!

I don't know how I missed this post earlier. I love DD's favorite things, which are some of mine too. The pink roses are stunning. The lamb looks sweet with that pretty runner too. I always thing petits fours are nice for special occasions and a Sweet 16 surely qualifies.
