Cat Litter Questions??
Comments (18)Hey LL: Zero Odor: I buy it online from their website. I use it to take odors out of the air and I also spray it directly on the litter and litterboxes. Zero Odor Article Zero Odor Website Lampe Berger: This is a lampe that consists of a wick and a stone burner. You light the stone, it gets hot, blow out the flame and the heat evaporates the scented oil in the lampe. It kills bacteria as well as scents the air. You need to research the Lampe and the oils. There are a lot of knock offs that do the job just as well. I got both my Lampes on Ebay and alternate between the LB oil and various e-tailers. Here is a link that might be useful: Lampe Berger Instructions...See MoreDoes cat litter furniture contain odors
Comments (5)gammyt, I don't think the trunk with the kitty flap would look anymore funny then the cat litter furniture they have out now - the opening is usually placed out of sight - maybe facing a wall so only the cat knows it is there. As for the odor, you made me think....the odor probrably will be strong being that the litter box will have no ventilation. hmmm... Foosacub, as far as lining the inside of the trunk that's a good idea. I've been looking at the cat furniture and they usually line the inside with a couple of coats of polyurethane which makes it easy to wipe clean and won't let odors seep into the wood. Good idea....See MoreCamping with a cat? Or is that just nuts?
Comments (13)We have one cat that went camping with us, but it wasn't on purpose. We were on our way to go camping, and stopped at a convenience store to buy drinks. I was putting the drinks in the ice chest, with the front door and the side door open to our car. I started hearing what I thought was surely meowing. I asked DH, "Do I hear what I think I hear?" Yes. I looked around and down just as a little gray long-haired kitten jumped into our car. I picked him up and sat down on the seat. He immediately cuddled up to my face and licked me on my nose. Oh, dear, I thought. He was just a little thing, maybe 10 weeks old. I looked around, but there were no houses around, just traffic and businesses. I took the kitten inside the store and asked if the clerk knew who's cat this was, but he claimed he'd never seen it before. A customer piped up that it was "your' cat now. What were we to do, with cars coming in and out of the parking lot and no houses in site? He went camping with us. We bought him some food and some litter, and headed out. He rode in the car like a pro, stretched out on the back of the seat sometimes, curled up in one of our laps sometimes. We did keep careful watch over him, but he did get to run around a bit. He stayed very close to us the whole time. He even went bird watching with me, perched up on my shoulder while I looked through binoculars at birds. The rangers came by, and were a little concerned, but very amused. They just cautioned us about the dangers facing the kitten, and the dangers the kitten posed to the wildlife, but understood the predicament we were in. That was almost 3 years ago. He has not gone camping with us any more, but then, we haven't been camping since, either, unfortunately. His name became traveler, and we meant to continue to train him to ride in the car, but didn't end up doing so, and he now hates the car. Oh, well. All that being said, I agree with the others that it really isn't a good idea. When we just went on an extended trip, we hired a pet sitter recommended to us by a local rescue group. You might check with the rescue groups in your area. I figure if a rescue group trusts someone, they ought to be good. Sally...See MoreCat litter odor control.
Comments (10)Realize this is an old post but in case it helps anyone... we have 5 cats and nobody ever smells 'kitty' in our house. In fact the first thing they say is "your house smells soooo good!" It took years but here are the tricks I've learned... We use corn based 'chick feed' from the feed store as litter. It's the exact same as Worlds Best Cat Litter but 1) half the price 2) fully organic and 3) smells much better. Saves a TON of money. We scoop all boxes 1x a day and change ALL the litter out completely weekly. This is critical. In addition, we throw some Baking Soda in the bottom of the box ea week before adding litter. Helps a lot. We also buy a miracle product called "Bad Air Sponge" from Bed Bath and Beyond (about $10 ea) and 1 called "Just Good Air" or something like that made by Yankee Candle. These air deodorizers last 2-3 months - you can tuck them anywhere and they just WORK. I put 1 Bad Air Sponge & 1 Just Clean Air in the hallway with the upstairs boxes and 2 Bad Air Sponges & 1 Just Clean Air in the basement where I keep 3 boxes. This works well to absorb any odors that occur between daily scooping. Lastly the upstairs hall box has a Sears "Air Purifier" running on low next to it most of the time. I run that more as "extra insurance" since I have one kitty who can seriously leaves some bombs! Also any odor from that landing can easily get down to the LR area and I don't want that. Weekly, we vacuum and mop down the litter box room floors with Murphys Oil Soap and water, being sure to get the woodwork next to the floor as well. Stink realllllly lives in dust so keeping the dust wiped down I've learned really helps with odor control. That might all sound like a lot of hassle/cost to some but its all very easy to maintain once I got the 'variables' set into place. I don't spend more than 5 mins a day on scooping and then not over an hour on the weekend between changing out the litter and doing a quick vac and mop. And in terms of cost, for me at least, coming home to a fresh smelling house every day = priceless! lol-just like the commercial! Hope this helps! Kelly...See Morekoala_em
