natural cleaners and dust

i'm sure this has been addressed,,but the search function isn't working for me today,so please help before i go nuts!

i've been successful in weaning myself from chemical cleaners and it feels great. but this house(i'm renting this winter) has forced hot air heat. i've got dogs and cats in the house,,and when the sun shines the layer of dust is overwhelming! i vacuum and dust regularly,,is there something i can do to the electronis and coffee tables that will repel the dust? i hate seeing it swirl around the room,,and it's finally too cold to air out the place.

Part of the problem could be the heating vents. I had mine cleaned and the change in the dust in the house was incredible! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats so I know exactly what you mean. I also clean naturally and the only thing I can offer is to vacuum daily and get a feather duster or something similar that you can just sweep across the furniture and knick knacks daily.

Try using either Swiffer cloths or a damp microfiber rag. If you use a duster you just stir the dust up into the air and it will float around and then settle back on a flat surface. Cloths like Swiffer and microfiber trap more dust. The Swiffer is disposable , the rags you just wash out and let hang to dry.

Do you mean natural or one that doesn't require you purchase an oven cleaner type product. Directions for using non-sudsy ammonia for ovens can be found online easily. You might also try baking soda and vinegar. I put baking soda in an empty spice jar and shake it on my cook top. I then spray vinegar on it. I let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it up. Once all the baking soda is wiped up, I spritz a little more vinegar on the cook top to really make it shine. You might also try table salt and lemon juice.

household dust is an odd combination of things- and having a dog certainly increases the 'dead skin' component of it. increasing the humidity in the room is the easiest way to cut down on airborne dust- it might also cure your cough (though if you're having any other breathing symptoms, or any swelling anywhere- get yourself checked for allergies. I'm an adult-onset dander, never USED to be allergic- but now the cat's not allowed in the bedrooms any more) the ionic and HEPA filter air cleaners WILL take out airborne dust- one of my clients has the 'smarter' ones in his house that needed cleaning EVERY DAY for the first few months he had it, and then it started catching up with itself, and now they get cleaned once a week, and even the plants look healthier.

Is water natural enough for you? I find a wet microfibre cloth is all I need to clean up streaks and fingie prints. But for gunk burned onto the cooking surfaces, you'll need something stronger. Generally, I use a soapy plastic scrubby, but for more stubborn stains, I use Bar Keeper's Friend. A more "natural" abrasive would be baking soda, but I don't find it works anywhere near as well as BKF.

I made a cleaner by filling canning jars with orange peels then filling up with vinegar. Let sit a week or more. Don't tighten lids too much as it will expel a bit of gas. I'm now using as a good all purpose cleaner and do find it does well on grease. Being citrus season now I'm starting some jars to give as gifts. I had some dried peels and those worked fine too, since the oil is still in the peel.

Changing filters and cleaning out your heat ducts is a very good idea. Also, you may want to get a good quality air purifier , wonÂt be a cure all, but it will trap a lot of dust that is in the air. Ree

ducts were just totally cleaned,as was the furnace. it is the forced hot air,,my own home has radiant floor heat,,much less dust,imo.
i am thinking a humidifier would help. and i'm looking for a trick with vinegar or something to repel the dust. i'm going to try the miracle cloths at least. thanks!

I use dryer sheets (new or used,both kinds work) to wipe the dust off my computer and TV screens.

What kind of furnas filter are you using... Maybe look into putting a better filter on that. Amazing what better filters can do.
