Base boards & mouldings - white - all over our house that we find dusting once a month with a microfiber swiffer or micro fiber wand - spritzed with some water does a good job of upkeep. In conjunction with good HVAC filters the only time it requires any elbow grease is those tight corners where the above can't get into the wedges; there we break out a wet paper towel or cloth & pull out the dust. As for floors: currently we are dusting with just a dust pan & broom. But that is definitely what you put in is what you get out & not every day we want to put in! LOL! But we just got a Shark Rocket V302 vacuums that we think will help speed up the daily sweeping & hopefully cut the effort in 1/2. iRobot type vacuums are hit or miss in terms of reliability/performance - so we chose to give above a try.

household dust is an odd combination of things- and having a dog certainly increases the 'dead skin' component of it. increasing the humidity in the room is the easiest way to cut down on airborne dust- it might also cure your cough (though if you're having any other breathing symptoms, or any swelling anywhere- get yourself checked for allergies. I'm an adult-onset dander, never USED to be allergic- but now the cat's not allowed in the bedrooms any more) the ionic and HEPA filter air cleaners WILL take out airborne dust- one of my clients has the 'smarter' ones in his house that needed cleaning EVERY DAY for the first few months he had it, and then it started catching up with itself, and now they get cleaned once a week, and even the plants look healthier.

What I do for my wood furniture (oak,teak) is dust with a microfibre cloth, then pour on a small amount of royal Guardsman polish and rub it In well. I find RG in my local grocery store. A little goes a long way.

I do not use chemical pesticides on my garden. It's my choice, and I enjoy that what I grow is 'cide free. However, while I try to help people see that they can control pests without products like Sevin, I'm not militant about what someone does in their own garden. I just like to know what's on it before I eat it. One reason that I'm not militant is that I eat non-organic produce from the supermarket, as well as in restaurants. Seems a bit hypocritical to go militant in a world where we can only control our little 1/3 acre lol. That said... there is a basic thumb rule of pest control that every gardener, organic or not, can benefit from: Always use the least toxic measure that solves the problem.
