I tried them all.......I had to work really hard and still got streaks until I listened to the folks here who said Bar Keep Friend. I didn't have any on hand so I used Bon Ami (guaranteed not to scratch). I used 2 cups hot water and about 2 tablespoons Bon Ami and kind of dissolved the Bon Ami in the water. I wiped it on with a soft towel, scrubbing where needed with additional Bon Ami and wiped it with a rinsed out rag. Dried it with a dry towel and in seconds, literally, no streaks, shiny, clean.........amazing ! I can't believe I wasted all that money on stainless steel cleaning products. I was ready to sell my stainless appliances because they looked so crummy all the time. No wax, no oil, no nothing but clean......yeah! Oh and the bottom freezer section is exactly how filthy the whole thing was.

I have just tried several different cleaning methods to remove fingerprints off of my range hood. The hood has a chase the goes up to a 12' ceiling with light hitting it from all directions. Everytime I thought I removed the fingerprints that were there from the installation, I would see them again when the light hit it from a different angle. I tried Zep Commercial, Rockit oil and Ceramibrite. I buffed all of them per the instructions but under some light the fingerprints were still there. I tried plain water. I tried Windex which left tons of streaks. White Vinegar worked very well but the winner was Isopropyl Alcohol. It removed all the oil cleaners and took care of the fingerprints. I decided to leave it without any polish. My thinking is that the polish leaves a slight oil film which will attract dust. I would like for someone else to try this and see what they think. At the very least it is a good prep if you want to apply polish without having the underlying streaks or fingerprints. I don't have my other appliances yet. I may try polish on those since they are easier to clean than the hood and chase.

We just had stainless sink and appliances put in. I had to try everything to see what works best! For my sink, Barkeepers Friend is great. Also the other stainless products work fine. For the appliances, I tried Crema Brite (sp?), Weiman Spray (sp?), a restaurant stainless cleaner that DH sells, Lemon Pledge spray, and Pledge all purpose wipes. After trying them all, here's the verdict: Weimann spray works the best. Pledge spray was the worst. Here's the problem - after cleaning and wiping, the appliances looked good for a short time. After a while, you could see the streaks and smears. I really wasn't happy with that. So I was reading on here about microfiber cloths and went out and got a bunch, and I must say I'm sorry I haven't discovered these wonderful things sooner! Anyway, I looked in my appliance manual on cleaning and it said to clean using mild dish detergent on a sponge. So I used a little bit of a soapy sponge and IMMEDIATELY wiped with a microfiber cloth, and these appliances are shiny and gorgeous with not one single streak! I couldn't be happier! Now, I am going to try the weiman again now that they are so clean just to see if that does anything such as help to repel fingerprints or whatever, because I am thinking maybe some of the streaking I was getting is from using so much product. So I'll see if it helps. But at this point I think my appliances could not look any cleaner or brighter with the dish soap and microfiber method.

morton, I also expect to see wear and patina over time with my ss sink. At the moment, I think I'm in "new car" mode - I want to preserve the shiny newness of everything for as long as possible! DH hasn't seen me clean so much in all the time we've been married :-) Having said that, I have a scratch on the cooktop and an indelible mark on our wood island top already - no biggie. We wanted to choose things that would appear to be appropriate for our old house and old houses have patina. Our old kitchen had a ss sink that was at least 20 yrs old and I certainly didn't baby it the way I'm doing with this one. Looked just fine. I guess it goes back to the linen pants analogy that's often used to determine whether someone would love soapstone or not: if the wrinkles bother you, it may not be for you. And we have soapstone too so I guess you know we don't mind a ding or two! Eliz
