Has anyone ever used a griddle like this?

We don't have room in our courtyard for an outdoor grill so we really feel like we could use the grill on the 48" range (probably a Blue Star.) However like many other folks out there, we would like a griddle too. I've looked at the Lodge griddle plates that cover 2 burners but they just seem too small to cook a lot at one time. So I found this 4 burner baby. DH doesn't think it will be a problem to have it over different BTU burners. He thinks you could adjust them to be about even or maybe you would even like them to be hotter/cooler in spots. (Any thoughts on this??? Is he crazy?) We don't have an electric griddle and would rather not add another "small appliance" as we are trying to consolidate and downsize rather than buy more.

I have the 2 burner Lodge. The space between the 2 burners is naturally cooler. I would think the same would be true with the 4 burner. Storage could be an issue too.

Depends on size. Gold nugget as an example is small, orange and has a very hard rind. There are probably larger C. maximas with orange skin and hard rinds. Gourds dry with no flesh altho ther are a few squash like some summer squash and ornamental gourds that also do not cure with flesh. Not as hard as a gourd (Lagenaria siceria) tho.

I use a propane burner but with a griddle I would think the heat is going to be so diffused over a wider area it may be difficult to get up to temp and pressure without using quite a bit more gas and time. And you'll have the contact surface issues too - no air circulation between the pot bottom and surface of the grill -that doesn't exists when using a burner. Can you find a model that allows for conversion - ie: 1/2 the griddle lifts off and burner can be used directly or part of griddle can be replaced with a regular burner? Dave

Yep, I can attest to that as well. I went through one period of SAHM-dom when I got up, got my son onto the school bus, and lay on the couch watching t.v. all day until right before time for him to come home. I'd finally get up, bathe, dress and meet him at the bus. That went on for about 6 months, until someone finally asked me if I was ever going to "be real" again.

The description doesn't make any mention of the griddle construction, except that it's steel. Does it have an aluminum or copper core to facilitate even heat conduction? If not, it's bound to have hotter areas over the burners and cooler areas between burners.

Also, I'd tend to think that two, 2-burner griddles would be easier to deal with. You'd be able to stack them for storage, or more readily slide them into vertical storage. They'd also be a heck of a lot easier to wrestle with or fit in the sink when it comes time to clean them.

Just my two cents.

I have the Lodge double griddle/grill (goes over two burners) and you can make eight pancakes at a time on it. It's reversible with a grill on one side and a flattop on the other. I season it and clean it just like any cast iron. I've used it for years and it's been terrific.

I have used a 2 burner Lodge equivelent and an identical sized coated one also. I only used them inside but after using them for a pancake breakfast at church I left them outside and had to reoil the cast iron one and afterword I tested it for good heat from the two very uneven burners. I accidently immediately dialed in perfect heats for the high and low burners and got perfect pancakes for 3 batches to feed me and the dogs.
