a few more Val. odds 'n ends

Luvs had asked about a close-up of my stacked plates on the kitchen counter, so here they

are....

And a few more Valentine bunnies. The crackled bunny and bird on a small corner shelf by bedroom got some roses. The hearth hare and candleholders just got the little wire stuff from DT for decoration. I should have put more effort into that, I know.

And speaking of roses, in 2010, our 40 Anniversary, Jason and Suzie sent me 40 'purple' roses! I saved the petals and put them in this jar, along with a photo I'd taken when I got the roses. I cut the photo down to just the outline of them and put it in the jar so I'd always remember how beautiful they were. Its also on that little corner shelf. I added a white bow is all.

And a few years ago I bought a white ceramic heart at Michaels, decoupaged a purple rose on it, and added an old skeleton key. So here the 'Key to My Heart', on the tea-cart. (photo is blurry, I must've moved)

Oh, and while I have your attention, LOL.... Awhile back I told you I saw a tutorial on a blog about making your own Mercury glass. I did it, then forgot to take photos. Both the vase and candleholder were clear glass from GW. I liked that the vase was 'ribbed' for texture. But it didn't turn out as good as I'd wanted.

Karen, so glad Luvs ask for a close up of the stacked plates. So much prettier up close! Your shelf turned out so neat. Love the candle holders and bunny on the hearth. The wire garland gives the extra touch needed for this.

What a neat jar of memories you have. This must thrill the kids you cared enough to save the petals and a picture from the 40 Anniversary bouquet. The 'Key to My Heart' is awesome. Love the old keys.

I think your mercury glass turned out pretty. The candle holder is shaped like my mercury glass ones. I am so glad you decorated this year!

I just realized how dark the photo of the 'mercury glass' was, so I went back and lightened it up some.

Neil and I went over to that OTHER house and piddled around today. I cleaned the refrigerator and cooked a whole chicken. Trying to get acquainted with the layout of the kitchen. Tomorrow I'm going to clean up all the plaster dust and sit in the living room and try my best to design some shelves, and a contraption for the BIG screen TV for Neil. I picked up hamburgers and we ate in the sun room. Neil bagged up garbage. He is anxious to get moved in. I want to just get settled, don't much care where. I love Katrina's bathroom. The motion light switch works great. I took some pictures and measured our bathroom. It looks pitiful now and I don't have much of a clue about how I'm going to use the space. I bought some new books on decks and patios, bathrooms, kitchens, gardens. I tried out my new Home Depot card. I got the thing because this sweet little old man was so dear and I thought I would just cut it up when it came. When I signed up I bought 2 battery chargers and several rechargeable batteries and got them all for 5 bucks after the promotional percentage was factored in. I only use my Visa and long ago cut up all other cards. Now, I'll cut up the HD card, pay the bill when it comes and be done with it. Would that I were as handy with tools and building as Michelle. My sister can do anything. She built a beautiful fireplace surround and mantle. I can usually design it but I can't build it. Our furry little weather forecaster, General Lee, saw his shadow, bless his heart. The whole month of February is supposed to be mild, go figure. Talk about screwing up spring, our azaleas and dogwoods won't know when to bloom.

Beautiful photos, and you've got to be kidding me that you got a hot air balloon in your photo!! Outstanding!! What is the shrub/tree just below the balloon on the right at the corner of the house? You seem to really like shrubs in the gardens. Do you have any deutzia? I find this to be a pretty underused shrub (although I think 'Chardonnay Pearls' is getting them more known) and they are so beautiful. Strawberries on the deck railing is a great idea! I do all my lettuce that way but never thought about strawberries. One other way to hopefully keep the critters out of them. They look yummy!!

LG, some of the rabbit plates are B&G, and some are Royal Copenhagen. The whippet plates are done in Sweden, can't remember name of company, but they do all dog breeds and only issue a new one about every TEN yrs. I have all the Whippet ones they did so far. Its hard to see the top rabbit plate on the left, but it was a "find" on eBay. Two rabbits crouched in snowy woods. Its from 1920! One of the others is 1964. I think I have all the blue plate rabbits made, tho I keep watching for others. (I couldn't find plate frames for the smaller rabbit ones unfortunately.) No, that little bird won't fit under that cloche, but I found a tiny teddy bear that will! I just need a little ribbon for his neck, then I can add him and some tiny misc. I had hoped to check out Big Lots today but my body wouldn't co-operate. Maybe tomorrow I can go. My daughter is planning to take off Thurs afternoon and take me to Home Goods. YAY...I'm going no matter what my leg says. LOL. hugs, Karen

Those pics of the faux mercury glass sure look good, PM! Way to go, girl!

Your memory jar of purple rose pedals is precious...I love that & the memory behind it! And you added some more Val-bunnies! So darn cute...you have the best collection I've ever seen! Love 'em! The candles/sticks look nice on the hearth. Everything's comin' up 'roses' at your house!

Okay, now you've done it. You have some amazing Valentine decor and now I have to get going as I got caught up in assembling a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and have been neglecting my decorating, LOL

I used to love jigsaw puzzles and found a Kincaid one that I had received for Christmas a couple of years ago and never got around to assembling, so once I start, I can't stop!!

Puzzle done, so after seeing everybodies pretties on here, I need to get going!

I am so glad you had a change of "heart" about the focus of your Valentine decorating, cause you sure have some wonderful pieces and have created some beautiful vignettes.

YOu did a great job preserving them - their color is still so vivid.
Great job on the mercury glass. I like the pieces you chose.
I've played with a few pieces too...I added some gold to the silver for a little added interest.
