Steam Shower with Wedi and Granite -need vapor barrier for steam?
Comments (3)Granite slabs? Granite tiles? My recollection is that wedi is not a vapor barrier. They might have changed their methods, but as of about 4 or 5 years ago, you needed to either use an epoxy sealant on the face of the board prior to tiling, or use an epoxy adhesive to attach the tile to the wedi and then an epoxy grout. Don't let the steam tube contact the wedi board. It can melt or deform the foam core. Slope the ceiling. And you probably know the ceiling needs the same treatment as the walls as far as the vapor barrier goes. But as davidro recommended, contact wedi or go on their website to see if they have steam shower construction details. Post back with any details. Best, Mongo...See Moreamerec vs mr steam vs thermasol steam shower
Comments (98)I don't understand the last post to this thread? Thermasol offers a 5-year replacement warranty on all their controllers. Why would you pay to replace it? Maybe you had it more than 5 years? If so, then it's too bad it failed but how long do you expect it to last? I doubt you could expect a car to last reliably with no problems longer than 5 years, so why expect that of your steam shower. I have a PRO-395 that I installed 14 months ago. It just failed tonight. Not sure if it is the controller board or the heating element, but it stopped producing steam. Called tech support and they are shipping me a new replacement unit tomorrow and paying for the install, all at no cost. I am going to call them tomorrow to talk to them about the fact that it failed so soon. They are supposedly the best and charge a premium for their product. I am curious how they will explain that it failed so soon. Will update this post if they say anything interesting. Update: Spoke to them this morning and they are sending me a new unit, and pay for installation charge. One other thing. Someone in the tread above talked about making their shower with a 10 ft ceiling. Don't do that! That is just dumb, and will affect the experience of a good steam. If you ever want to make your steam shower bigger, do it in the length or width but never in the height. My house has 10 ft. ceilings, but my shower has a 7.5 ft up to an 8 ft. ceiling and that is plenty high enough. The 7.5 ft part is over the bench so the fact that it is lower there makes no difference because you are sitting down....See MoreMr. Steam Questions
Comments (1)We are also going with Mr. Steam, but we haven't ordered it yet. We are leaning towards the Ibutler package, which includes the ISteam. They also have a new Isteam with wifi coming out soon, but I'm not sure why you would need wifi in the steam shower. It would be nice to have the bluetooth streaming capability, but I can't find out if you can buy that without the lights and aromatherapy. We will be getting ready to order shortly. I'll let you know what we go with....See MoreSteam shower steam generator question
Comments (1)I'm not swayed by changing light colors or aromatherapy. Nor is my wife. We both enjoy steam. She regularly gets therapeutic massages. I do not at all mind scents in the house. My wife is big into scented wax melts, and I don't mind them at all. But in the steamer? The "special effects" are not preferred by either of us. Steam. Relax. Shower. Get on with the day. The features are somewhat popular, so I presume some folk like the effect. Or think they might like it when they order. I do prefer Thermasol....See Morepolonyc
