What kind of stair treads did you use when not using Oak floors?

Comments (6)Tara, I am not a flooring person either but was given the same info by my flooring guy. I just put down a QS oak floor which included three stairs. I think the original treads were pine. My floor guy said not to mess with it that he would stain it to match floor. Well I'm not too crazy about how it turned out. My trim Carpenter said he could cover it with oak but the floor guy said it should have been done before floor was laid. Comments (9)Best solution would be to remove the laminate nosings and replace with a hardwood nosing, and install the carpet runner inset. That would save costs on the nosings- as they are typically 6' long, if you are only installing 6-8" on either side of the carpet runner you could potentially do 4-6 stairs with one piece....See MorePrefinished floors what do you do on stairs?
Comments (3)Try using treads bought with the flooring. While very, very few prefinished flooring manufacturers offer such, it's become quite convenient and hassle free with my customers. It's a guaranteed match as the treads are 'run' with the flooring at the same time. Treads and other mill work to match flooring...See Moreddr000
