When my oven was bought back I dealt with the same dealer so this may be apples and oranges for you.

The company accepted a credit from the dealer who credited me. The company came and removed the oven and hauled it away (no charge though I did pay delivery originally with contractor installing during construction).

I was credited by dealer for price paid plus tax. I purchased another brand on same basis. I paid delivery on the replacement oven plus installation to make the new one fit.

Didn't get into historical vs current pricing -- not sure that works. The first hurdle is getting them to take the defective product back. Once that happens it's dealing with rationalizing the full cost of replacement -- for me worth it to get an oven that worked really well and didn't have any further aggravation after 9 pointless service calls and 3 clock replacements.

Looking forward, it has been 2 years with 0 issues and an excellent product. In most of these situations the purchaser is out of pocket substantially, which isn't fair. OTOH, there's a point at which it's the best that can be done in that situation and it's time to do it and move on.

How much it's worth spending without feeling ripped off (which seems inevitable) or when you reach that point is really subjective. Think it's also more emotionally fraught during construction when you're looking ahead to big payments vs afterwards.

Different manufacturers do different things when it comes to buy backs, that is why Guadalue is asking

Whirlpool has different standards, then Bosch who has different standards then Electrolux and so on and so on

I bought a Maytag dryer that was eventually bought back by the parent company, Whirlpool, after endless service issues.

They gave me the option of an "equivilant" model at no charge or credit towards an upgrade. They let me select from any of their family of brands. Once I made a selection, they sent the unit directly to an authorized dealer who delivered it to the house. He removed the old unit, installed the new unit and sent the old one back to Whirlpool - AT NO CHARGE TO ME.

It's interesting, becasue this dryer was purchased before the Whirlpool takeover, but the problem was resolved after the corporate purchase. Some may be critical of Whirlpool, but they stood behind their new product line, troubled as it was, and did the right thing.

Wolf gave me exactly what I paid for the range including taxes and installation. There was no haggling required and I appreciated it a lot.

Dacor gave me purchase price plus sales tax, but told me if I was past the one year mark they would pro rate the purchase price down. I was out the extended warranty. They sent me a check directly instead of to the dealer at my request.

Keitel, thanks for that information. The Wolf rep who called indicated that they'd give me what the builder paid for it, plus tax, but she didn't know about installation costs. She said she'd look into it and call me back. I doubt that the builder still has, or can locate, his receipt, and the dealer he bought from went under. I appreciate how responsive Wolf has been thus far, and I expect they will cover the installation expense.

Electrolux is supposedly giving me the new model of the double oven I bought in June and paying for the uninstall, delivery and install of the new unit, and haul away of the old unit.
I say "supposedly" because the internet dealer who I bought the oven from has yet to make it happen ...
If I don't get a firm delivery date of my new oven soon, you can bet that then I'll have quite a post about the internet dealer I bought the oven from ....
