Totally OT: Faux Stained Glass

I have taken at least 15 pics and can't get a really good one. These 3 little windows are in my front door and even shorter people can see into the bottom one. I did these because I thought they were pretty and they provide some privacy.

The bottom one is a little lighter than the other 2 so I still have to put another coat of paint on it and touch up the outer edges. The black showing in the upper left window is the chain on the outside. I had to go look at it again to see what it was. ;~)

They are lovely. I like almost anything pink and these really brighten up your door. Good job.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread, why anyone would want to paint over a beautiful brick fireplace is beyond me, Edna do carry on it's looking wonderful. I've dry brushed other colors to give things that antique look in the past. Our house is old with small rooms, the living room is quite small and the people we bought it from had a fireplace put in sometime before they put the house up for sale. It's a really good wood burning unit but it was faced with rose colored roman tile which I detest, soooooo, the last time I painted the walls an off white/gray I painted the fireplace as well. We had one of those glass doors with a fan installed so it looks a hell of a lot better now then when it was rose colored. If mine had a brick finish to start with I would have changed the whole room to accent the fireplace. I'm still looking for something for a mantle, I'm leaning towards a piece of driftwood. Annette

OT: reach-in closets w/ bifold doors or custom wardrobe cabinets

I just built option 3, not completely finished. I think wardrobes are typical in Europe but not in US so from the perspective of resale the traditional closet is best. So far we are happy with our choice as we had been considering sliding doors which at the length and height of our closet were priced at about what I paid for the unit. The room is small so it is difficult to get a good picture. We have triple and double height hanging and pullouts for ties/belts/shoes. A not finished piece is a vanity desk and shelves above. This gift may be especially timely, as Grannie & Grandaddy are having some foundation work done in their apartment (they're in a retirement center), and they are just about at their wits end because of this. Grandaddy told my dad yesterday that, "This is the worst thing that's ever happened to us." And it's not, you know -- but at age 93, everything is magnified about 1,000 times, so the inconvenience of having to pack away some of their breakables and allow workmen into their home is sending them both into a tizzy. Nerves are frayed, instructions are being misunderstood, and my poor dad's trying to help them keep it all together ... trying to soothe them, and let them know it's not a huge deal -- "this too shall pass." It's hard for him, because G&G have reverted to being very childlike in many ways (displaying those characteristics big time these past few days!) -- and dad fights to keep his patience with them. Anyway - I said all of that to say that the memory jar and beautiful poem probably couldn't have come at a better time for them. They desperately are needing something positive and loving to cling to right now, and I am sure that this will fill that requirement beautifully.

There was fake turf on the playground at a school where my kids attended at one point, and there is maintenance involved with it (replenishing/leveling the infill material). I'm sure it's more frequent at a school where it gets heavy use vs. at a residence. I have a neighbor who has it in the backyard and they have dogs. She said she uses Simple Green to clean up dog messes :-/ Athletes who play and practice on artificial turf have brought up health concerns, so there's controversy around that (without a lot of research), so that's also something to consider for those with young kids and/or pets. I tend toward the other extreme (shying away from chemical fertilizers and pesticides) even it if means not having grass look perfect and green all the time and sharing my landscape with creatures who leave unsightly holes in leaves, etc. I think artificial turf has its place and looks (and functions) great in the right application, but it would really bum me out to go out in my own yard and be walking on plastic.

Thank you paintingfool and Kathleen_li. I'm not really talented, but I love doing different things and have fun doing them. If I could paint as well as paintingfool and luvs I would be very happy.

Patty_cakes, I've been playing at painting for years and years, but stopped for quite a few years and just recently picked it up again. If you want to see "real" painting, look at Luvs and Paintingfools work! I love doing it, but I'm not really very good at it. And my windows aren't really painted. They're done with glass paints which to me is much easier.

Sandi,, those look great! You do such a nice job with those stained glass paints. I've watched some of the demonstrations on the shopping channels and it looks so difficult to me. Painting with acrylics is one thing--stained glass paints I'm not so sure about. Your decorated ornaments certainly made me think about giving it a try! They were so pretty too! Luvs

sandi...you did a wonderful job. You are not giving yourself enough credit. You ARE talented! The faux stained glass is not easy to do, at least not for me. I have tried the faux stainglass thing before and I was unable to create anything I would have displayed or taken photos of for people to see because what I made just looked bad. Your windows are very pretty. Great job...be proud of yourself...:)

Thank you everyone. As I said, it's a good thing I enjoy doing it cause I sure wouldn't make any money selling it! Yall have to remember that you can't see all of the little mistakes in the picture. LOL

Luvs, The liquid leading is a little difficult at first and I still don't have it downpat, but I'm getting better. One thing I can not do is caulk and the leading reminds me of that.

Tamgypsy, If you still have your supplies give it another try. Just start with small things first.
