No, I saw it, too (they send a hinge pin with the range to use if/when you remove the door). So far I've just wiped down the grates with a damp sponge (scrubbed some spilled food spots with the scrubby side of the sponge), but that's about it as far as the grates go. In addition to the Goo Gone I'd suggested above, I've found what works really well on the burner pans (black enamel) for spraying and wiping, not for the burnt-on stuff, is the SCI Clean Encounters granite cleaning spray. I had it out to clean the counters one day, and decided to try it on the range top since it needed to be cleaned too, and it did a great job. I gave it a few spritzes, and wiped/buffed dry with the same microfiber that I'd used on the counters. No streaking, and the enamel looked really nice afterwards. I used the same damp microfiber to wipe down the SS after that, and it even did a good job there as well. I'll look for the Dawn Power Dissolver for stubborn spots. It's probably good to have on hand.

Sorry. I don't have a good answer for you. Steam does help. You can use the steam assist and/or a steam generator device. The thing I've been fighting in my new kitchen is cleaning the two stainless interior ovens to pristine. Gaggenau recommends drying the interior of the oven after use. I'm sure that's to prevent scale and other kinds of mineral deposits. I have pretty neutral water and am unwilling to do that (wipe off spatter, yes, mop up water, no). If you read the manual, you'll find where you can disassemble the trickier to clean pieces as well. Are your blotches white or brown? If they're brown, they might be polymerized grease, like what you try to get to form on your cast iron to make seasoning. Steam definitely helps with that, though it also takes elbow grease. The white is most likely mineral. If you can't bear it any longer, you can try a degreaser and very gentle cleaning pad on the brown, or an anti-mineral product on the white, rinse very well, then put through a couple of rounds of steam assist cleaning to make sure you've cleared all of the chemical. I have more trouble with my Advantium, though I think repeated cleanings with my new steam cleaner will help--the spots (brown kind) are by the holes so I don't want to use anything too liquidy. The combi-doesn't get that much problem because I mostly use it for vegetables. There is one dark gray splotch, which I think might be a permanent discoloration from fruit acids. In the end, my attitude is that they're ovens, and they're meant to work. If nothing takes the spots off and they've been cleaned well, they're not "dirt" so I don't worry so much. Enough to buy and use the steam cleaner to resolve them, but not enough to fuss over too much.

"Plus, it seems like it would be easy on the interior vs. a harsher chemical and lots of scrubbing." Iyt you use oven cleaner (many are lye based) it is liable to be easier on the oven then loading it full of water from a 'steamer' (if you can see what is coming out it is NOT steam). The water is going to move into the insulation for later 'cooking out' when you heat the oven up. Ovens commonly have porcelain coated steel walls. The lye in oven cleaner does not affect them, though repeated scrubbing can. The danger with lye based oven cleaner is your eyes. The slightest bit of lye on the cornea can cause permanent damage. Faster than you can rinse it out if the lye is at all strong.

I do have the special upholstery tool already....I actually bought it for my car which has really pale interior and shows everything! Even water!!!! Think that would work? It would make the velvet damp though...then I could use the towel/iron idea! Anything is better than dusty feeling...with the microfiber sofa and loveseat which lives in the den (which took most of the brunt from the dust of refinishing hardwood floors) it cleaned up just fine! We didn't have enough space to store EVERYTHING so had to rely on the den for alot of the larger, less WANTED objects...lol I'll give you an update tomorrow...this is my task for tonight...fun fun...at least it's now mowing the lawn! (Yesterday I moved my mom's lawn b/c my dad is deployed in afghanistan and her regular lawn mower is P.O'd because my dad came home for 2 weeks RR and he mowed the lawn himself) So now he refuses to show for 2 weeks! We got alot of rain in bama last week so it looked like a jungle! my mother does NOT mow lawns...lol
