Some photos of my Valentine decos

I planned a fun Valentine's dinner tonight for my husband's parents and my aunt. I took a few photos of the table and my island and wanted to share.

Here are photos of the table...they came out a bit darker than I wanted them to be since I'm still learning my way around the camera. I intended to put a white lace tablecloth on, but forgot it until I already had the table set! By then, I didn't have time to take everything off and start over. Next time, I'll make sure I get everything ready in plenty of time!

dreamgoddess, Your Valentine table and island are just beautiful. Your little baskets and angels really add a special touch. And I really love the hearts on your stemware.

And the centerpiece on your bar is gorgeous. I love the rosebuds. Did you make it?

Wow, just beautiful. I love the small roses, where did you find them? Also, that is so neat, is that a valentine on each plate?

Looks like a lot of work and I sure wouldn't have taken it all down for the table cloth either!

I just realized something after all this work finding these things & putting together a table, then you have to cook & entertain too?????? I'm worn out just from shopping for these items & the work of putting it all together, think I'll hire a caterer when I entertain! LOL

Maybe I'll just do pretty tables for myself & post pics here & NOT entertain! LOL

Thank you Everyone, I really appreciate your comments. Punk, you touched my heart with what you said about Jason. He continually fills me with awe and pride. That photo was taken of him when he had to medically retire from the police dept. They enlarged it to use as a poster for the Reserves! They gave him the original, framed, and he gave it to me. He's our own personal Phoenix, rising from the ashes to soar like the mythical bird our city is named for. In fact our City has often referred to him that way when writing or talking about him on the news. Especially the Police Dept, and their logo has always been the Phoenix bird. Those stacked plates come from Target online (not in their stores). I've attached the link. Judith taught us that the $1 Sundae cup from Walmart is a great topper for them. LOL. Its nice heavy glass too. Mine are glued since I have cats, not to mention a Dad who's always shoving them out of the way while he reads the paper. LOL. You can make your own, but Target's are so reasonable that I got theirs. My Valentine topper I got at Michaels yesterday. Too bad I didn't think to get big pillar candles! OA, I haven't mastered making big nice bows really. I just sort of managed thanks to the wire ribbon. I have one of those bow makers and really should learn to do them properly. I've read instructions and seen videos of how to do them by hand but I'm all fumble-fingers it seems. Milosmom, we have quite a few photos of decorated chandeliers in our Inspiration albums, especially the Xmas one. They are probably in the Misc sub album there. I LOVE having one to decorate for the holidays. Last year I bought some of the little shades to use, but it cut the light so much I can't read under it. LOL. Speaking of albums, don't forget we have a bunch of stacked plates and cloche pictures in there too! Tons of neat eye-candy and good ideas. The photo of the funky birdcage doesn't do it justice. Its really kind of a neat piece. The color brown of the metal matches two framed prints I have above it, plus goes well with the china cabinet beside it. I couldn't paint it white anyway since the wall is white. For Valentine's, after I loaded it with the moss and roses, I tucked a bird's nest with eggs in there and added the little Dollar Tree bird. There is no door, so its not a real birdcage, the top part is hinged and the whole thing lifts up to decorate inside. hugs, Karen Here is a link that might be useful: stacked plates

Dream, that candelabra would be perfect in your home, thought of that when I got it, it is more victorian than my decor, but would be perfect for your home. I did use it in the bay window last Easter with some small, glittery eggs hanging from it, but since our diningroom table is our everyday table too, it is just too big to have on there. Yes, those tin hearts, everyone has commented on them & now I wish I had bought a ton of them & sent some to everyone here last year. I couldn't even tell you where I bought them, it was New Years weekend a year ago, when we were traveling from our over-nite at our away college basketball game to our friends in southern Illinois to spend New Years with them. We got off the highway in this quaint little town & stopped for lunch, there were a few shops open, most had already closed for New Years eve the next nite & you know me, never let a chance to shop go to waste. We had just a few minutes to run thru the shops & I spotted them not even knowing what I'd do with them & grabbed up two of them. Thanks all for your comments, I really wasn't happy with the pictures, the candelabra actually looks much prettier in person, the glass on it sparkles in the light, but does not in the pictures.

Hi :) Yes, you're right, Emmenthal is French cheese (in fact it's some cheaper type of Gruyer and its taste is less strong than Gruyer and it pleases to people who do not like the taste of this cheese). Hoooooooo! Since I discovered this site, I spent a lot of time on shopping and decorating for holidays. My son didn't recognize me, hahaha! I always loved home improvement but didn't do anything, now, I act; and that is what surprised my son. Yachter, I have to say that I also re-used my Christmas candles for Valentine. I was really disappointed for not having found some more decorating items. Just hope that next week they'll sell some more. And, yes, it's really agreeable to enter the dining room and see how lovely my table is with these petals and hearts. My friends tell me that I'm crazy about this holiday stuff but they also found it beautiful ;-) BTW, Luvs, your dinner menu inspired me: will cook shrimps and pasta tonight, lol!

Oldalgebra, my friend found the wire bunnies on QVC before Xmas. They were black wire, but I decided since I wanted to use mine for various holiday decorating, I wanted him a dark green instead. So hit the spray can, LOL. Kathleen, he has Valentine colored popourri in him right now. For Xmas he had gold pinecones but I forgot to take his photo. Thank you so much, Prosp, I'm glad you loved the cloche. Lynn, I've decided that Stacked Plates and Cloches are a "must have". If I didn't own another decorating item the rest of my Life, I'd be content with just these two things to play with. I figure when I can't do the heavy Xmas decorating as I grow older, I can sure do these two things no matter what or where. LOL. Luvs, LOL, you're right. But you saw the photo of my plates and they were so off balance. They "stunk". Magpie, that big rabbit was a FIND. He was at the antique mall Luvs visited with me. I got him for $10 there last Fall. He's really heavy and was probably meant to be a doorstop. Mo, your DH has to be wrong, it can't be that bad. Ok, I got brave and took a "before" photo and then after I redid the plates. You can see how off balance my first attempt was and why it bugged me I think. I like the redo better, tho still not all that pleased. hugs, Karen

Dream...I love your table and island...very pretty...you did a wonderful job...I like the little angels...and great minds think alike...I am also planning the valentines dinner with my family tonight and set the table late last night...I also used rose pedals in the middle of my table...LOL...since when I originally asked for help the red napkins in the middle made a bit of a strong statement...I'll take pictures in a little while and post too..:)
I am sure your family will love what you have done and enjoy dinner very much...:)

You did a great job. I see you used clear plates, I love using clear plates, because, just like you did you can design a totally original look, I love the different individual valentines under each of them.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

I did make the centerpiece and had a mess when I got finished. This was the first time I used moss as a filler and wow, little pieces of that stuff gets everywhere! You couldn't really tell very much about the candle I used in the centerpiece, but it was heart shaped and had pink sparkly beads all over it. I think it was my favorite thing that I bought!

I found the little silk rosebuds at Wal Mart. They were in small bunches and each one had all three colors of roses on it. That made it much easier for me to arrange it. I always have a hard time mixing colors in a centerpiece...it seems like I always end up with too much of one color.

I think ya'll have the right idea of just setting the table for ourselves and forgetting the entertaining! I was exhausted by the time everyone was gone last night. Not only do we have to go shopping for the decos, but then we have to plan out the menu...then you've gotta decorate. After that comes the actual cooking...but then after all that, you've still got dirty dishes to wash! Yep, a caterer is sounding better every minute. LOL!

Very pretty, Dream, and the angels are adorable.
Yes, it is tiring. I have started setting my table earlier and earlier when I am having a dinner party. I always change my miind about the tablecloth, and it drives dh crazy...try this one, no now another..!! If I do it a few days ahead, it saves the day of the party for most of the cooking. DH puts a piece of plastic over the table so it doesn't get "DUSTY" !! Years ago I never would have done it days before time, but I don't have as much energy as I did, and I do love the table to look pretty.
