Hancock & Moore Kodiak
Comments (4)Hi Cindy, The way the program "Town and Country" in H&M works, is that one leather is what they call "married cover", and thats Document Saddle. There are no other "married cover" colors for Kodiak other than that one. A few years ago, that meant that leather was cut and sewn in China in quantity, and then shipped over here in kit form. So when an order came in, they would pick a frame, pull the kit and then upholster it. Quick and fast, and because the labor to cut and sew was done in China, cheaper than US labor. Many companies do this, not just H&M. However, the flies in ointment soon became apparent, and its called Quality Control. Retailers such as myself could - and did - see a less-than-satisfactory variance from items that were scratch-built and fully upholstered in North Carolina. We would see brand marks, insect bites, urine stains, neck wrinkles and the like sewn into the prominent parts of the piece and complained. Most companies just shrug their shoulders and say 'Hey, you want cheaper prices, that's what you have to live with'. Well, H&M is privately held and not beholden to a corporate entity, and Jimmy Moore and Jack Glasheen (owners) saw that their reputation as one of the best in the industry was being compromised by these Quality Control faults and the Chinese just were not responsive, so they pulled out of any off-shore kit making. Now everything is done in their Hickory North Carolina facilities. However, they can still offer economies of scale so they buy a large quantity of one leather (Document Saddle in this case) and have the kits made there on-site. Quality Control went way-way up and I have no issue with married cover from H&M (I've been told by many a supplier I am too critical, however!) They also realize that not everyone wants Saddle color, so they buy large lots of Document for this and other frames to try to get the piece price-friendly. Hence the better price in the whole Document line. They should have (33) Document Colors on the ring, not (20)! Document is a Class II hide, so its accurate to have that on the label. Your local store has to 'buy into' the Town and Country Promo, which they may or may not have to get that structure I outlined. Prices are the ones I set for Garden Web folks (Shipping is additional), and not every store has that price structure or is obligated to sell at those prices. They may also not be aware of the whole H&M Promotional price structure - its a bit complex. Standard Cushions are a Qualatex foam core polyurethane, wrapped with 2 oz of fiber and covered with ticking. They are very resilient and hold the form well (keeps the leather from showing stress cracks - which is what happens when using the down cushions). As far as comfort for tall folks, thats hard to say in a category. Everyone likes something different! Duane Collie The Keeping Room...See MoreAny experience with this sink/company?
Comments (35)Ok, so here is the deal after talking to the people at stainless-sink.com.........several times.....they were pleasant to talk to but they wanted pictures to confirm my claim that the sink was in fact about 19 gauge (between .98-1.03mm) and NOT 15 (1.8mm)which is a difference of almost half as thick. . I sent the sink back, and was given a full refund. However, My call tag that they issued for the return was more than 10 pounds underweight, I was told that they should take it and if there was a difference ups would bill them for it, but my local ups store would not take it. Luckily my ups driver did take it, but this could have been a huge hassle since they did not seem willing to issue a new tag with the correct weight. long story short, I got my refund. My final impression of Stainless-sink.com and the "15" gauge sinks is that I don't think that they are trying to scam anyone. I think no one ever took the time to break out their micrometer and verify the thickness of the material. I ended up buying a sink from another ebay retailer who just happens to be close to my home. They have the exact same sink, marketed as 15 gauge, but after going there to measure it found it to be the same 19-20gauge thickness. The sink that I ended up purchasing a different sink that is 16 gauge but was also advertised as 15 gauge. NONE of these "15" gauge sinks are truly that thick. The old saying "you get what you pay for" seems to hold true here. I ended up paying 375 for a (ebay #390325693007)........however I opened several boxes of various models before I chose this one, and they were almost all the thinner material (19-20 gauge)........ I still don't think that they are a bad deal for the price, they just are not nearly as thick, or nearly as great of a deal as they are advertised to be. as for the rusting issue-I'm still finishing my kitchen but cannot comment, I did decide to go with a 1" radius sink instead of a zero radius because I figured it would be too difficult to clean and also would make it easier for water to sit in the corner and if there was a rusting problem, that is probably where it would be. I bought from "contempo living" in el monte, Ca has been in business now for about 10 years and said they haven't had any issues with that............. Time shall tell....See MoreAny experience or opinons on Premier Pro Line of Ranges.
Comments (6)Thanks. The thread was interesting as I'm buying a range to replace a 1950's Roper. I'm very dubious about all the electronics on today's ranges. I bought myself a DCS 10 years ago and love that it has no touch pads or buttons to fail. The Premier Pros look really old fashioned, but there is very little information about them so I won't be buying one. I'm actually sorry to be getting rid of the Roper, but it is 48" wide and has a small oven and isn't really right for a rental apartment. I hope to find a good home for it....someone who will refurbish it and keep it cooking for another 60 years....See MoreExperience with stainless steel apron front sinks? Advise?
Comments (39)I purchased my Sea Salt Kohler Whitehaven through Amazon Warehouse. Got it for almost 1/2 price. It was perfect. I only purchase if an item is marked as 'Like New' or 'Very Good'. Just saw a Ruvati 9200 workstation apron front stainless on there with several installed pics. Might be worth checking out....See Morelfriddle1
