GE Profile Induction Range Oven Preheat Time
Comments (6)Oh, I have never believed those oven-beeps, LOL I know it takes 20 or 25 minutes for my ovens to preheat (depending on the set point, which is usually either 350 or 375) but I was wondering how much the hidden-element style adds to that timeframe (if at all, which logically I would think it does?). I mentioned the GE unit only because we are 90% sure that's the one we are going to choose, and wanted to know if others are seeing exceptionally long preheat times with it. Electricity is expensive in our area and so if it takes 45-60 minutes to preheat that particular oven to a true 350 degrees, that would give me pause ... especially if an alternative range would take less time to do the same thing....See MoreSo, why do I need a steam oven?
Comments (15)Agreed with Barry. Given that you'll have a conventional oven as well, it shouldn't be an issue unless you want to produce ten trays of cookies or hors d'oeuvre at one exact moment. Though for that you really need a commercial convection oven rather than two conventional home ovens. :) Even the ones with broilers don't have the kind that you get in a really good conventional often, but it's supposed to be good enough if that's all you've got. What I end up doing for feasts is planning which item needs to go in which oven, and it might be a combination (I have Gaggenau combi-steam and conventional, plus Advantium, which is also a full on convection oven). Like a whole brisket on the first day of cooking goes in a medium-large roaster in the big oven. After cooling overnight, skimming and slicing, I have transferred it to a smaller pan to finish on the second cook in the combi-steam on zero steam. Or when I wanted the big oven for something else, instead of roasting a turkey, I put parts of one and a half in the combi-steam. I like the Advantium on convection for reheating casseroles. There's sometimes a little hopscotching, but everything gets made. For most purposes, a full sized conventional oven and a combi-steam should be enough cooking capacity for a family. Add microwave or not as you like. Sorry. I think this might be incoherent. If so, I'll try again when I'm more awake....See MoreWhy do spikes on Phalaenopsis take so long? Or is this normal?
Comments (9)Bob, that helps a lot! You are right, those are exactly the type of Phals I am growing. I am keeping them warm and put the lights of earlier and gave them extra at night to see if that makes a difference. I am wondering, do you see the roots of yours growing, or do you have them in pots hoping they are all ok? I have considered the see thru plastic slitted pots. I am starting to question whether the roots of mines are still healthy and how will I know unless I yanked them out? I question my ability on these all the time not trusting what is going on that I can not see, if you know what I mean?3 Have you ever heard the the method of just sticking them in glass bowls with roots fully exposed with a mist here and there with the moisture being contained inside the bowl? LUv, I did on the ones that were not in spike. I don't trust myself with these, even though I thought I did.lol I am always wondering what the roots look like since I can not see them( Jane, hello)) Thank you! Yeah, I think I am watering correctly since the mix is very porous and the root very warm, but I never thought of fertilizing them as often as I should. I think I will try that at a very weak does weakly. I see, if yours are slow to grow, then I don't feel so bad considering you live in a very warm climate state. Thanks. John, EXACTLY....Now you feel my pain. I have been looking at those spikes since I got them. Seems like forever. Crazy. As for new leaf growth, you can forget that! lol Thanks for your words of encouragement. Bob, when you said that you bring them outside, do you put them where they can easily get rain, or do you keep them protected under an eave of something similar?...See MoreHow long does it take a Speed Oven to preheat?
Comments (2)Hi, thanks for your reply. I understand it does not preheat on "Speed Cook", but when I want to use the "Convection Bake" function, I do want the oven to preheat first. I'm just thinking it is taking longer than it should so am trying to get some information on what the normal pre-heat duration should be....See Moremindstorm
