Doll Baby Valentine Setting

I'm still decorated for WINTER...lots of snowmen & greenery & lots of snow! But I changed my baby doll's outfit & did a little place setting for Valentine's Day (because of the influence of you "holiday-ers!" The high chair is one I bought at an auction probably 20 yrs. ago & refinished..it sits by my buffet. Here's a full view:

And here's a closeup of my doll baby...I changed her outfit into this pink crocheted dress, jacket & bonnet...used to be on a diff doll for my GD's...all 3 of whom have grown out of the doll stage! My wonderful GMother crocheted the outfit for me as a baby & I kept it in the cedar chest for yrs...and then thought, why not let my GD's enjoy it! So it's OLD as dirt and faded some!

The porcelain head doll was a kit I bought probably 15+ yrs. ago & sewed the dress for my Mom, who collected dolls. Ahhhh, I'm a sucker for things with history! LOL! Thanks for lookin'! Jeanne S.

I love this. If I understand correctly, you change her outfit to go with the seasons, right? I think that's wonderful.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I had fun putting this together and got so many ideas from all of you. I just started looking around the house and pulling pinks and reds together. A lot of the glassware pieces were the ones I got from my niece that were destined for the GoodWill store. OA - the crewel embroidery piece was done by my late husbands grandmother. She did it back in the 70's. I am blessed to have several pieces of her work and have them hanging in several places in the house. I just love old needlework and have many of my mothers, my aunts and my grandmothers work plus I have done several pieces. There is such a homeyness (is that a word) and comfort zone for me to be surrounded by old quilts, linens and needlework. Thank you all again - I do love this forum ..... Lynne

Thanks for commenting, punk, sorie, kathleen, marlene & purplemoon ... punk..blizzards are over & "sunshine" just makes all the diff in the world! Very cold yet tho...but do-able! I'd love to visit your home...from what you share, it's just downright SWEET! sorie ... that print is by Robert Duncan called "April Storm" ... by his signature it says 1980 ...but I bought this print at an frame shop & had it framed 7 or 8 yrs ago...it is one of my favs! kathleen...no, the tree I bought on an after Christmas small town shopping trip...at a specialty store...they had used it in their display decor...& had it for sale...I was in heaven! I'd been wanting one for some yrs since I saw the grapevine handmade ones at a craftshow that sold for lots of $$$. It would be fun to try to make a "small" one. PM...hey, next mo (March 20th) is first day of Spring...so maybe you can decorate for that! You'll be bringing out all those beautiful bunnies!! You've got alot going on right now, woman! I think I should warn anyone working with colored tissue paper that the color really comes off when wet.I was tired & wanted to have a sample 1 done by mon. craft club so I wasn't paying much attention. I found that it was best to smooth the tissue on with a bristle type brush about 1 in. wide, I had tried a foam brush & it was falling apart, either old or reacted with the glue.LOL Anyway I set it on tin foil to dry overnight & went to wash my hands & then I noticed they were a mess. So might want to wear latex or similar gloves. I mentioned that the satin balls I had wouldn't work for this but I think they would be perfect if you were pinning ribbons or something else on them as they are very dense(at least mine are). GF & I are making button Christmas trees that someone on this forum made last yr. They were just beautiful & I have lots of old buttons. I had 2 old 12 in. tall cones & sprayed them with gold metallic paint that I had been given. We are using 20 gauge gold colored wire to put them on the cone, I'm hoping not to glue any as I may want to use a few of the buttons eventually. If I have to glue it will be the wire that gets the glue not the button. But at very top had a little trouble with foam breaking I think because wires were so close together to start. It's working well now. I'm sorry I can't come up with pics & can't even take any off my camera until DD figures out why some got erased. I don't use credit cards & so Kodak was going to start charging so she moved them somewhere else. My youngest bro. is whiz with computer even builds them ,too bad none of it rubbed off on me!!DD learned but she goes so fast I can't write down what she is doing. I got a couple of the books. Computers for idiot's at least showed the parts of computer & what they are called. But I keep getting tripped up by windows, either that I bring up or that show up. I would just like most of them to go away but lot don't & then I'm in trouble. Wish it would say "Do you want to add this program?' followed by yes or no. Don't think Bill Gates ever heard of the word "no"!!!LOL have been thinking(rare event)while I wrote this that the cone button/jewelry trees might have been in with last yr's SS Christmas posts & maybe not on here but on GJ forum. Maybe they will show them again as they were wonderful. 1 in pastels with Victorian look & 1 in gold tones with such a rich look to it. Jan

What a beautiful doll and she looks great in her high chair you refinished so well. Your baby also looks great in her sweater that was crocheted by DGM. It nice that you've shared it with GD's and now your using it for display.

Your porcelain doll is a nice addtion with your baby doll. I think it's great that you like the old and have such nice displays with all of it. I sure enjoy looking.

OA..nah,I usually decorate the high chair "tray" with seasonals...Valentines, 4th July, Halloween & Christmas...& then I add a Santa hat or bonnet to baby doll. But this forum has been motivating with different ideas...so I remembered the "pink" outfit in the doll box for GK's and the pink depression glass.

Here's her Christmas look from last mo...I crocheted her a little "halo" & used some ribbon with pearl edge for a scarf. The nativity set is from Mexico & in the style of little children...I love it...Christmas gift some yrs. ago.

slinkey...one of my daughters LOVES teddy bears! So glad I'm not the only one to do some of these (second childhood??) things! LOL! Jeanne S.

Jeanne, that is so darling. The outfit your GM did is perfect as well as the high chair. The whole setting really tugs at my heartstrings, I love dolls and used to collect them. I still have quite a few, I've spent many hours dressing them and arranging them. And of course the pink depression wear speaks to me. Great job.

I love your baby's 'Christmas Look', and what a cute 'halo' you crocheted. lol
The little Nativity Set is so sweet, and perfect for her!

I neglected to mention in my last post, I love your High Chair. You did a great job refinishing it. I wanted one like it when I was expecting my DD, however my SIL went and bought me a 'regular' one, and I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I kept it.
I never thought though, to get one just for 'Me & My Teddys' !! lol

Love your Valentine doll display, I noticed the sweater & cap right away & wondered if you had made it, even more special since your mom made it!! Did you make the doll or is it an old 1. She has the babydoll look & is very sweet. The pink depression glass looks perfect with the dolls. Cute halo for xmas. Jan

What cute displays both for Valentine's and the Christmas one. The doll has a darling face, and looks really great in that special pink crochet outfit. How neat that you made the little doll yourself. The dishes fit the decor for Valentine's perfectly. ;o)

Jane, I wanted a wooden highchair at my house for little GD also, but ended up with a "regular" one because I was told it was important that it be "adjustable" so she could use it at table height. We only used that feature a couple times because it was NOT that easy to do! Should have gotten the wooden one! LOL

Oh my, Jeanne! That baby doll is gorgeous. I love her face, she has such a real look to her. (she might be the first baby doll I've ever fallen in love with!! LOL. To my grandmothers' dismay, I didn't play with dolls. I was a total Tomboy and outside as much as allowed.) But this one is quite the heart-stealer. And the high chair is PERFECT. I really think how you decorate her, and treat her so special, is something that will touch many of us here. I can't believe the pink outfit your grandmother made, she would be so proud to see it now!

(I do still have the teddy bear my dad gave me when I was a toddler. Do we ever outgrow loving bears?)

Yes, she is a special baby doll to me...she's not real old...probably about 20 yrs....my Mom & Dad bought "twins" when they vacationed near Branson, MO.,...they added to their doll collection from down that way! My sis & I each inherited a "twin" from my Mom. I love her sweet baby face, too!

Thank you for the high chair comments, also! I say, "go for it"...they're adaptable for many things!...and useful for holiday decor!!! (check those TS's, GS' & GW!)
