Yoyoma, Does the frig that you saw have water/ice dispenser thru the door? I called Kitchen Aid and they said they do have this new model coming out , but it is not in the stores yet and they do not know when it will be available. I need to pick out a frig and give the dimensions to my cabinet store so he can order cabinets. Since my other other appliances i picked out are KA, i wanted to stay with that brand. Also, what was the price on it? Thanks for any advice.

Best way is to look at both! Compare the features, shelves, lighting, temperature controls and readouts. I guess none of the new Jenn-airs have the features my 2006, 48" built in JA has? It has crank up/down shelves in both fridge and freezer, it has 3 different temp settings in the fridge compartment, (Meat Keeper, Chrisper and main fridge), all digital readout and control. It is well lit, both the fridge and freezer. It uses the variable speed compressor, which according to an "Old Post", all whirlpool made fridges do, (alto I would double check that). It has been trouble free except the icemaker falied after 5 years, (heater), a replacement cost me about $135 and took me 10 minutes to change it. Just about all reviews, here in GW, are positive about the KA fridges, so either should suffice, just compare the features and if they differ from the KA to the JA, are they important enough to YOU, to pay the extra money?" Compare warranties too!!! I had originally thought I wanted a 42 inch built in fridge, but I can't tell you How HAPPY we are, that I found an extra 6 inches for the 48", something You "May" want to consider! Yes we are having problems with noises with the Kitchen Aid with lower freezer/French door ‘ Cabinet depth. This has barely been used (in place 12 months but we have been out of state so used for maybe 4 months) they told us to change out the filter (at $50) did that and still making noise....service man on the way - out 1 week. So annoying after paying so much for this fridge. Other than that we have loved it ....so keeping fingers crossed! I don’t see the sense in disconnecting the line if this is what you paid for to use - I love having ice/water in my door...so not an options for me. Although I do have to add, since this is so close to the warranty of course expired 1 month ago....they are taking care of the parts/labor that is needed to fix. So with that I would say their customer service seems accommodating to me. :-)

Joan, in NYC you have no worries! The thing about giving a party with limited resources is that you get creative. In your example meal, you didn't mention a cooktop or microwave, but even a small one of either, or a hotplate, or electric skillet, would allow you to make the beans in a different way. Or, since you're in the middle of a massive city with all kinds of food resources, you could choose to make a tenderloin instead of a rolled roast, with a relish or sauce instead of the stuffing, and jam all parts of your meal into the one oven at the same time. If you want a whole smoked brisket or turkey for a feast, and don't have outdoor cooking, you can always buy it cooked, and decorate it your way while reheating. Or you could just decide that roasted with a dry rub is fine and make it in the combi-. The secret to a large turkey in a small oven is to quarter it and roast the pieces. I just wouldn't try oven smoking in a small apartment. Even in my large house it's something I wouldn't repeat, having done it once. Good brisket, but there were toxins that weren't caught by the oven filters (one must open the door as well) and not removed by my very powerful hood. BTW, I researched washer/dryer combos a year or two ago for a design game, which was essentially about tiny houses (before they were all over TV). At the time, there was an LG that had the best reviews, but they all said that the trick to the dryer cycle was to put in no more than half a load. I really think you'll be fine. Just having an oven of any kind makes such a difference! When I was young, living abroad, we had two gas rings, and our only oven was a Wonder Pot (like a Swedish Omnia Oven), which is a ring pot with a solid, vented cover, and a flue to direct the heat up through the middle. We baked cakes & bar cookies, casseroles, etc., in that thing, and with our two burners, cooked dinners for six. The question isn't if you can cook a lovely meal for 6-8 with only a combi-steam, but if you can make anything you can dream of and have everything timed right to be hot to the table.
