OA, this is FABULOUS!! What a great idea and you "designed" it perfectly! That groundhog in the apothecary jar with the snow and twigs - terrific!! (Did you have the gh or spot him recently and come up with the idea from there?) The little quote on paper, the "log" candle and placecard holders, the colours, just wonderful! - Ooooohhh, can you tell, I just LOVE it! And now, the saying at the top of the forum home page "...and let's not forget Groundhog Day!" is so true thanks to you! Your menu sounds yummy as well and I would love to join you - is it today or on the 2nd?

OA, thats beautiful!! The apothecary jar with the groundhog and snow is awesome. And I love the blue and brown combo. I had forgotten you were the one with that beautiful wallpaper in the dining room. The log candle holders are lovely too - did you make them? Everything is just perfect - I love it!

OA,how nice ! And I love the woodchuck also ! When I saw your candle logs, I had to call my BF in to take a look at them.. he took one look and said "OMG,there's 2 of you ..lol ! He's referring to the tablescapes I did for my family reunion last year. I had a friend of ours cut some limbs in varying heights for me and level the bottoms so they would stand up.Then I drilled holes in the top for taper candles.I thought they were adorable..DBF thought I'd gone over the deep end..lol.Now I may have to "borrow"your idea,if you don't mind ?

How adorable..and what a great imaginative idea!! Who would have thought...I love how the GH is peeking out of the jar, and his little sign. Those log candle holders are so clever..in fact the whole table is just so much fun. Your table is just what's needed here to chase away all the Winter Blahs.. I love it.

Yachter, we'll just have to wait until Feb. 2 to find out. The sign isn't original. I came across it while I was groundhog googling. You can get mugs or t-shirts or maybe it's mouse pads (I cant' remember exactly) with the "to see or not to see" phrase.

DD, thanks for the compliments. I just got the groundhog (aka Punxsutawney Phil) last week by ordering from his official website. Yes, everyone, there actually is an official Punxsutawney Phil Website. I was surfing the net looking for ideas when it popped up. Since I know there are dozens and dozens of you out there who are envious of my little creature, I have included a link at the end of the post. I don't want anyone to have to live for one second more without their own official P.Phil statue.
BTW, dinner starts promptly at 6 pm on Monday.

Mo, how nice of you to comment on the wallpaper. Wallpaper is, to borrow a phrase from my 8th grade students, sooooo last year. I have to say, I still love it, even though I do worry about people thinking, "When is she ever going to pull down that wallpaper?"

Ncnana, yes, the buffet is built in. My dad was once a cabinet maker and when we first moved into the house he had me bring all my linens, dishes and crystal to the table and he designed pullout out drawers and shelves to store all that I owned at the time. I keep wanting to change out the door fronts. Maybe someday down the road I will get around to it.

OM, you won't be borrowing MY idea. I've seen it done about a zillion times before. I like the idea of upright log candle sticks too. I guess this only goes to prove that great minds run on a single track.
I know what you mean when you talk about your BF. My husband walked by the dining room this morning, saw me drilling big holes in the firewood and said, "What on earth are you doing?" When I told him I was making candle holders, he didn't say anything about noise or the loads of sawdust all over the floor. He just walked away shaking his head.

Kathleen, click immediately on the link below. You don't want to take the chance that they may be all sold out! Ceramic groundhogs with the official Punxsutawney seal aren't easy to come by.

I was planning a Groundhog Day breakfast for Tuesday morning. I'll get some pics. It will be simple and not elaborate foodwise since I am working that day. I may have to "borrow" your sign idea.

I wish I have a picture of the little gopher creatures that keep invading our neighborhood! I do have a picture of DH standing in front of a sign at the Prairie Dog Town sign in Lubbock last week. He was less than thrilled that I wanted him to see this. I grew up there and we were in town for a funeral. It was his first trip to the flat land and it was cold that morning. Not a single prairie dog stuck his or her head out! When I was little we used to visit and there were hundreds of them. I guess it was too cold. There were lots of mounds though.

DH said they were too closely related to the yard gophers that he keeps running off to the neighbors.

What do you mean you're keeping it simple for GH Day! I thought, the last time we talked, you were having Punxsutawney Pancakes with Phil's Favorite Fruit Toppings. Or was it Weather Bureau Waffles with Prediction Powder (sugar). Or did you say you'd decided to serve Only Time Will Tell Oatmeal? I can't remember. But don't forget to have everyone wash it down with Sunny Delight.

Oops! Got all mixed up, I guess.
Say, after "talking" to you, I looked up "printer's devil." I thought I remembered it as being a printer's tool that was used in the days of moveable type, but nope. It's an assistant.
When I was little, and helped my dad as he put up the block wall around our house, he'd refer to me as his hod carrier. I always loved that. I think mostly because I was the only kid on the block who knew what it meant.

PD, when we came across Wyoming this Fall with the motor home, one of the rest stops had a really big prairie dog village. They were so used to people that they came right up and ate goldfish crackers out of our hands! DH and I thought they were cute--but very glad they lived there and not in our yard!

Good play on the breakfast food names there OA, are you sure you taught math and not English????? LOL

Oldalgebra, I taught journalism, photography and English for 21 years. I am retired and work part-time as adviser to student publications at a college.

I picked up the printersdevil name in high school. I was lucky to be a part of a journalism program that acquired a small offset press and all the needed things to print our paper. We learned from the manuals the first year. During my senior year, they hired a full time printing teacher and we formed a printing club named Printersdevils. I was the first president or Head Devil! I have always used this for a screen name since it is unique.

OA, thanks for the info, but I think I will let you be unique with your new pet...:)
