Vanity top: marble vs. granite vs. ???
Comments (2)If you look in bathroom design books there are as many people using limestone as use marble...although granite is *fabulous* and lots of people use it too, I daresay. There are so many amazing granites. That said, in our bathroom we're using Silestone, since I wanted a fairly tough counter to withstand my DH without constant worry and cleaning-up-after from me. People use glass and different varieties of terrazzo, or even wood, too; the sky's really the limit when it comes to bathroom counters. All depends on your desired amount of daily upkeep,as well as the budget you want to allocate towards it. People use counter-depth tile, too. You could use soapstone, too! A good thing to do would be to go to a bookstore and sit and read at least two books about bathroom countertop choices--see the pics, read the descriptions--that way you'll have more than one perspective on them and you can decide from amongst all the choices....See MoreOldryder, does this seem OK in your opinion - marble vanity top?
Comments (14)Well, thank-you, all! That sink was quite a find, as it is listed for over 2k, and the faucet would have cost close to that. Just the oval inserts for the handle tops are $294.10 on Amazon. I paid $150 for it all in an inexpensive white vanity with a bright red top. A friend helped me get it all apart and I have been searching for a piece of marble ever since. An update from Thursday is that I got a call back from a fabricator about 7 miles away, and he said he'd be happy to work with my stone. I sent him pics of all the pieces and am waiting to hear back from him. I'm in no hurry, but some day, I hope to show pics of that sink in the powder room above. Of course this is a snow ball effect, and I'm lucky to have found the major pieces for great prices, as now I need to swap to brass hardware. I also want to keep the current sink and granite top for a day I may want to swap back to that. Where and how to store it will be fun... rob333, Thank-you SO much for that contact info. I wracked my brain for days trying to think of the name I had read about of the man in Maine. Had I not heard from someone, I wanted to contact Bill. Who knows, I may still need to, and I'm glad to have that info....See MoreWhere to find pre cut marble/granite top for vessel sink
Comments (1)You could try a site like craigslist; however; your chances of finding a top the exact size of your cabinet with the holes aligned and sized right for our existing sink is slim. I'd suggest finding a small remnant at a yard (one that small they may even give your for the cost of fabrication) and have it cut to your specific needs. Good luck....See MoreHow much does a cut in granite cost?
Comments (21)It got done. Home Expo was a nightmare. i got over the shock of paying $490, but then they tried to add on more charges. I had about four calls with them this week and each time they gave me a different total due that they were unable to justify (then they would say, "I'll call you back..." and the whole process would start over again). The final conversation was an exercise in frustration with a woman who couldn't understand basic math. Finally the installer saved the day by giving her a face-saving out when he suggested that she move a number around in her system. If it wasn't for the installer I don't know what I would have done. It ended up costing $490 for cutting the granite (plus $170 I had already paid for installation), which I'm fine with because it was two guys and it did take them a long time. The guy who cut the granite said he's only had a problem once. They cut it free hand and it's not perfect, but I don't see how they could have done better without removing it. I am relieved to have it done and grateful to the installer, but I will never buy from Home Expo again. Nobody knew what was going on, nobody could answer a question, more than one person said one thing and then denied it later........See MoreBongo
