Help Designing Layout for Master Bath

We are in need of help designing the layout of our master bathroom in our new home. I have attached a copy of the layout our designer provided, for the sake of time we accepted the layout knowing that we would change it prior to construction of the home. I appreciate any comments:

Desired Items:

1. Separate Vanity with a dressing table for her vanity

2. Corner Tub

3. Shower close to tub with dual heads and a seat

4. Small linen closet

We just went through this exercise and redesigned ours, but we got rid of the tub (I never use it) and added a 2nd toilet. I can't read the dimensions of your shower; can you post them? You might be able to make it a bit smaller and still have a shower large enough for 2 shower heads and a bench. Also, what size tub do you want/need?

The shower is 11' x 4 " which is too large. As far as the tub we are want it to be at least 72" inches long and deep. Thanks

Hi, I'm wondering why you have the double doors to the left of the hallway-- there's an access to the master bath from outside the master bedroom? So will this be a shared bathroom? If not, you could gain a lot more space by eliminated that hallway access. As for the bathroom itself, a couple things immediately jump out. It's a large bathroom, but things look a little "cramped up" -- probably because the shower's so large and seems to take up disproportional space. The vanity area doesn't look near large enough for two sinks. Maybe you could separate the sinks and have two vanity areas. Finally, I would want something directly in the sight line of the long hallway as you enter, eg, center the tub so that's your view as you enter the bathroom. hi there. overall it looks like it will be a beautiful bathroom! i agree with the previous poster that toilet compartments aren't for us. we have a kneewall and it works just fine for us but to each his own. :) there are 2 other comments i'd make. 1) we have a giant walk-in shower with a bench that's all done in tile (floor, walls, bench, and ceiling) and it's ridiculously hard to keep it clean. it needs to be re-caulked every 6 months or so (as ours is on an exterior wall in a cold winter climate - i see yours is interior so no problem there), and i always feel cold despite 2 shower heads covering me with water. the warmth of the shower isn't contained because the space is so large. if you've had a big shower like this before and like it, just ignore these comments. :) 2) one thing i really miss in our master bath is a nice place to sit and primp. i have a large walk-in closet as well, and put a seat, little shelf, and mirror in there, but the lighting is terrible with no natural light. you have so much space that i'd suggest a place for a low vanity for sitting and styling hair and putting on makeup. (or standing and putting on makeup). maybe there's a nugget of something helpful in these ramblings? good luck!

OK, I just went and found my snipping tool (I've got Vista, it was in my accessories), so I've got to try my hand at this. Here's my first idea, outlined above: I'm not as enamored of it on paper as I was in my head. Don't like the sink corners serving as a "doorway". Since this is a new build, do you have any flexibility with door or window placement? The big window in particular poses a problem, as the only thing that can go on its wall is a tub below. If you could scootch it to the left and center the door on the wall, you could do something like this: So glad I FINALLY know how to make jpgs out of screen stuff. Thanks lukki!

There's more than enough room to use the same room dimensions and put her sink and vanity area to the left side of the bathroom as you enter. On the wall to the right of the doorway, a 5' counter for him, with a 2'-10" linen closet at the end. Directly opposite, in the space shown on the plan as shower, you could have either an enclosed toilet room, or toilet area with a half wall beside it. Next to this would be a 9' shower area with two heads, with bench at one end, and then a 6' tub shown where the tub is now.

I can sketch it out for you if you can't visualize it, but it's a relatively simple change in layout that could be easily done.

Here's a rough sketch. The exterior dimensions of the room would stay the same as shown on your plan. I'm showing the toilet area with just a wall on each side, There is ample room to extend the wall by the shower to include a toilet closet, if more privacy is preferred. This would give him a 5' counter space, with 2'-10" linen storage, and her counter and vanity space is 7'-2''. Still plenty of room for a 6' oversized tub and 9'-4" x 4'-0" double headed shower.
