There's nothing quite as cool-looking(temperaturewise) as BLUE flowers. I grew Phacelia a few years ago, best blue i ever saw, next to cornflowers. The bell-shaped blue flowers with icy-white anthers were beautiful, and stirred up images of cooler weather. They do have a short bloom time, hot weather just about stops the show, cutting back helps somewhat. Give 'em a try, i believe there are 2 or 3 varieties. Good luck, and enjoy.

I just went through this. New Miele's on the first floor in an area that never had laundry before. As recommended, I installed a 1" thick plywood board on the floor and used heavy duty lag screws to secure it to the joists beneath the floor. That one little corner was solid as a rock. However, I did get some vibrations. The problem is an old old house. Very solid, but a little bouncy in the floors adjacent to this area The Miele caused what you might call sympathetic vibrations. I then "sistered" all the joists in the basement and it really stiffened up my floors. No more bouncy bouncy! Sistering is bolting additional boards lengthwise with the joists. As a result, my vibration problem is gone So, take a test. Go up into the room you plan to do this in and have someone jump around in different parts of the room. Do you feel the floor bounce a little? Not bang or thud, but sort of springy? If you do, you may have some vibration issues that you need to address first, but it really isn't hard if you have access to the joists in your basement. I did this myself and the cost was hardly anything in wood, liquid nails and bolts, but to pay someone to do it might be in the area of $500 to $1000. Trust me, laundry out of the basement is fantastic! Good luck! There is a reason why French polishers charge a fortune, and this is it. A very difficult and time consuming process to master. Cabinet finishing and polishing apprentices require years to get this right in the U.K. There are many different colors of shellac. Knowing which one to use and achieving the deep mirror like finish requires the building up of many many PERFECTLY applied coats. Personally, I think this is not one for DIY, especially with a valuable antique as your guinea pig. Just my opinion.

Well I'm NOT a blue person. Indoors I have NO blue. My husband doesn't understand this. I have no idea why I feel this way. Outdoors things are different! I have a blue/yellow/white garden bed which I love. Yes, delphineums, catananche, campanulas, baptisia and more, are mixed with trollius, coreopsis moonbeam, peony Claire de Lune and low growing white clematis and aquilegia. It is a big mix and wouldn't be any fun at all without the blue! There are loads of clematis that are purple or blue/purple, but also some very nice blues I think. You do get into the question of "what is blue?" My husband and I think this could well be a male/female issue! "Victoria Blue" Salvia is the closest thing. I use it a lot. It is such a heavy, long bloomer, and about one in twenty of them will survive winter here.
