Do you have an extra tile? If so, then I would absolutely make them switch it.

I lost my post :(....anyway thanks for the insights. Yes I have plenty of tile thanks to last tile guy who had me buy way too much. My guy was suppose to be here at 8 this morning...it is approaching 11 with him nowhere in sight...I since have found two other chipped tiles. Bill, is travertine so delicate that it chips this easily? It is large 20 X 20 but it seems the corners seem to be chipping very quickly. The grout is not down and we haven't been walking on it other than to look and then I walk only on the center so I don't think we have done anything to it. Many thanks again.

It IS a very soft stone, and very susceptable to damage prior to being finished.

Have them fix it. There's nothing I hate more then new stuff that is damaged before I can use it.

Yep - they should replace the tile. Let's hope they don't chip more getting that one out.
My tile guy replaced some of my tile of his own accord when the shower door guys chipped my floor -- three times. I felt bad that about him taking time to do it, but it didn't take him long at all.

I feel like such a wimp. I didn't fuss about the chip and you cannot tell when they grouted...honestly. I dealt with the shower drain which I will better know when I finally use the shower. Today they did the tub. The carpenter did not adequately support the tub so they did alot of extra support work to the frame. He did a great job. However he is using large tile of travertine around the tub. He started matching at the center of the tub on the side. Around the corner where the front of the tub is and the faucets will go, he could have made it where the main big piece of tile is centered. He didn't. It is off by about two inches. I understand what he did but it could have looked so much nicer. I went in twice and kinda suggested what he could have done when everything was still wet. He said that once the tub was in and the grout done, I wouldn't even notice the grout lines. I wish I had some backbone to work with these guys!! I feel like I need a hit with one of the 2X4's. Just venting. Do anyone feel like they wished they had been more picky?

What I find is that it is easy to worry too much ... sometimes I suffer from the same malady, only to learn that things work out pretty well in the end. What seems like a BIG offender today, lessens greatly in importance next month, like never remembering that chip was there on that tile in the doorway once it was grouted.

I kept thinking as I was reading everyone's posts, that I would rather a small chip covered by grout rather than risk someone removing a chipped tile and nicking my heated floor mats in the process. THAT would be a much bigger problem because my brand spankin' new heated floors would not work!

It's a kind of 'pick your battles' kind of thing. I think that we are all somewhat guilty of wanting to be 'nice' and not get in the workmen's way. What I try to do is avail myself of the information regarding the task at hand, and in my sweetest voice would have said, "Now, Tile Guy, are you planning to center the tile over the front of the surround, because it would make me REALLY happy if everything were nice and centered, right here in the front? Then bat your eyelashes. Works almost every time. But you gotta know your stuff, so that you can catch them BEFORE they 'booger' things up. :))

'Would you do?' requests are a lot easier to grant that 'Would you RE-DO?' ones.

I completely agree Mommielady! However with this tile guy, he won't even consider that it could be done better. I realize now that I should have visualized the entire thing and told him from the start how I wanted the tile laid. I thought it was pretty simple but he just would start from a place and work from there. Never would he start in the center and work out or consider that the cut piece might look better out of sight rather than dead on. My fault for not planning it out better. If you see my other post, the tub doesn't fit so I might be getting it all redone anyway....:(
