X- Post. How often do you clean your Vent-a-Hood?
Comments (2)We grill under the hood quite a bit so the cleaning is a bit more often, about once a month I'd say. Yeah it's hard to put off the fun sometimes. But a couple of things I've picked up on. 409 works great. Remove the sheild under the blower housing and spray some into the squirrel cage; jog the motor, spray generously, turn off motor. The idea being to coat the wheels but not have the 409 just fly off.Be carefull though because it may drip onto the cooktop. I put some newspaper down first. Let it sit, maybe repeat. Then remove the housing but again be carefull as the 409 is sitting on the bottom now. Wipe it out with paper towels or into the dishwasher if you like. Remove the wheels if gunked up to badly and if your lucky they will clean off real nice with HOT water spray. I don't know why but my wheels used to be a PIA to clean but now they are easy. I use the 409 on the inside of the hood to. The stuff works good for me. Oh, a whole mess of paper towels. It's a bit of a proceedure that may not be for you but with repeated applications seems to go faster. I like my stuff clean, don't like the smell of grease in there, and expect some effort will be needed. Being double jointed seems to mke it all easier under the hood..)...See MoreCleaning a kitchen vent hood
Comments (1)Haven't the slightest idea about what is involved in cleaning a residential range hood output line. The important thing is the avoiding of damage, the climate it must function in, and amount of grease being produced. Grease will function as a water vapor repellent so getting ducting shiny clean is probably not a good idea in a moderate climate. In addition, grease will likely degrade over time and find some sort of equilibrium with the amount being produced by your stove use. All in all, probably the most cost effective idea would be to plan on a replacement of the ducting and complete exhaust fan assembly at a given target date within the next few years. Finding out the condition of the old system will be a free bonus. This post was edited by laat2 on Sat, Sep 28, 13 at 20:14...See MoreHow often do you clean your Vent-a-Hood?
Comments (17)I'll try it with you celticmoon. And we'll see. I also noted that only one of the two cages was dirty (although I did wash them both). It was the white one. It was pretty disgusting, it had to go through the dishwasher twice. Must be because I don't use the supplementary "boost" or whatever button. So I may be able to at least get away with only dealing with one squirrel cage. I wonder too, if I do it often, I can keep it relatively clean without taking it down? We shall see. I also note that the paint came off the white one in the wash. Ah well....See Morecleaning vent hood
Comments (6)If that doesn't work, try Dawn Power Dissolver (gel spray). It's can be tough to find (at least where we are), but well worth the effort to track down. I use it on the mesh filters on our range hood--pop 'em out, spray top and bottom, let sit (in sink) for a while, and then the grease practically rinses right off with a blast of hot water (I scrub with a blue scrub sponge to make sure it's all gone though!). I use the Dawn Power Dissolver on my burner pans, inside of oven door, and even on the backsplash over the range when needed. Good luck!...See Morelaney50w
