diesel suv

just saw it today, with a manufacturer plate on it, hyundai veracruz suv with a diesel. about the same size and shape as the new gmc acadia. was being tested out of the ann arbor mich hyundai/kia design shop. driver says they should be for sale in the u.s. late 08 or early 09. about time someone puts diesel in a affordable midsize suv.

I just hope they are the new clean burning diesels. Because if they' aren't they won't be allowed in CA, NY, MA, ME, and VT.
I would buy a diesel tomorrow if they were allowed here. So I'm hoping for good news. But the Supremes have decided the EPA can regulate emissions and not need Congress, so the whole future is now in limbo.
I had a Bunny 26 years ago that got an honest 50 MPG. No gimmicks, no electric motors, no batteries. Just 50 MPG.

To quote Steve...However, the government created a tremendous loophole in classifying minivans, pickups, and SUVs as trucks exempt from those regulations even if people use them as cars (the spirit of the law instead of the letter of the law). And everyone pays pretty much the same in road taxes whether they're pounding the roads with a three-ton-plus Lincoln Navigator or a one-ton Nissan Sentra. Everyone's insurance has gone up because of increased damage claims made by people in cars who've been hit by a truck or people who don't know how to drive trucks to begin with. There's nothing proportional about that................... Our government has really fumbled the ball here, and after so many years has yet to rectify this situation. I suspect they are trying to protect the remnants of the American auto industry.. I believe we should be far more united with Europe in protecting the environment - that their approach is more balanced and fair.. We have a government that responds too easily to the pressure groups rather than the people in general. The environmentalists and their supporters are probably the single strongest pressure group in Washington and many state capitols as well. I feel that national interests are more important; that we must no longer continue to be dependent on Islamic oil.. One of the solutions to this problem is the Diesel and a much higher standard for fuel economy...

If the person hit is injurded and is in the Hospital for a long period of time and has surgery and then needs Thearapy.Has to take medication for the rest of his life.Then his pain and suffering and lost wages and can not pay his bills.Who do you think pays?Just because your insurance pays $10.000 per victim medical and you have say a $600.000 Liabilty.Does not mean your off the hook.Just because that is all they will pay.Because chances are that will not cover it. If the victim dies.Your not going to get off cheaper.Because a funeral is cheaper then if they lived and had huge medical bills.Say the victim is 40 years old and made $50.000 per year.The family would recieve a minimum of $50.000 x until his kids are grown.Not counting pain and suffering. Insurance Co.Cover there rearend and will only pay so much.You pay the remainder and that very well could be the larger portion. Could a Dr. please step in and explain this to beaglbuddy?

Someone ran into me back in Nov and totaled my 2008 ES 350 Lexus, and I purchased the the 2016, same model, shortly afterwards. I didn't test drive any other car! I love the way it sits, not too high or too low, as with many of the new models. It has every option known to man, a very generous trunk, and spacious back seat. I've had a couple of 'altercations' with heavy truck treads on the road, which caused absolutely no damage to the under carriage. DD has a Kia and had the same thing happen,and did cause damage and a part needs replacing. It also feels heavier than most cars I have ridden in as a passanger. Also free car wash any time I need/want. ;)

I only worked for the first 5 years of marriage until the first was born. Up until then we both contributed a certain percentage from our paycheques into the spending acct and the rest we kept for personal expenses. After I quite work I felt like I had to justify every penny I spent - DH was really cheap (I worked that out of him) and questioned everything I spent. One day I just told him that I wanted a certain amt of money every month that I did not have to justify and that he was no longer to tell me where, how or when to buy groceries and that I was in charge of what the kids needed/wanted. I also took over what the house needed and wanted. Since then we have never fought over money. I am not a spendthrift but was better at balancing how money should be spent. The one thing that my DH had to learn, which my father had to teach my mother, was that it pays to buy quality and is cheaper in the long run.

We sold our bunny #2 about 5 years ago due to the fact that the body was going, but it still ran like a champ and got 50 mpg. Merging onto the highway required nerves of steel and on subzero days I had to wear my long johns...but I still loved her! DS is taking an autobody course at school ...wish now I put her up on blocks in the barn...

My Bunny had the 4 speed, while another guy at work had the pickup with the 5 speed. Tha truck had good acceleration while yes, my Bunny had "same day acceleration". As we used to say "ZERO TO SIXTY...YES!"
But it really didn't matter all that much merging onto the Interstate in the morning. It was Rte 80 in North Jersey and everybody is going 5 MPH between 6 am and 9 am.
I am SO glad I moved away from there!

With the new standards in place for all new diesels this year they should be available in all states. At least by 09 they should be. Even heavy truck diesels have to pass very low emission level now for particulates.
