Is anyone using tile on the master bath counter anymore?

I'm going to use these organic stone vessel sinks that are very irregular shaped and was thinking of using a blend of small format tiles on the counter and backsplash. Then over on my vanity/ makeup area counter I'll use unoiled soapstone. My only hold up is that it seems "everyone" is using stone these days and I'm wondering if tile would be too dated. Other features in the room will be a wall of tile with a slate fountain recessed in it. The cabinetry will be dark brown (but not super dark) and the floor tiles will be grays and browns.

I have seen vessel sinks with tiny 1 inch mosaic type subway looking tiles and it looks fine. As far as being dated, I'm more concerned about "everyone" using vessel sinks-They really are specific and I'm afraid in another five years they are going to be dated and known as a past design fad. However they do add design interest most people either seem to love them or hate them which could become an issue in future home resale.

I agree with roobear. I think tiled counters can be gorgeous and timeless. Vessel sinks are very "right now". So...do what looks good to you! Are you worried about resale or just looking current?

Talley, good luck with the canister decision. I had an adorable inherited cookie jar that I loved, but we stopped eating cookies, and I was deeply conflicted about keeping it-couldn't think of anything else to store there (still had the canisters at that point). However, the lid fell off while I was cleaning it one day, and sadly broke in many pieces. So that was that, away it went-and I was spared a little guilt along the way since it was very precious to the person who gave it to me as well. And as an aside, my Martha Stewart P-Touch died this morning. Remember? : ) Purchased in 2003? We will try to repair it (we think there is a short in the wiring since it flashes the words P-Touch then completely stops working but after a lot of re-plugging in and fiddling with the adaptor cord, it might start again, maybe but increasingly not), but if not, will replace it. We used it just yesterday and it was hard to keep the power on but we made five nice labels for our car files. Fifteen years of flawless label making, such a godsend! Any recommendations? Thanks!

thx nancy! that gives me positive hope - not just my 'wishful' hope. he was fine when we were doing the dirt pad out front - or seemed to be his regular 'ol self! we noticed a few changes when we moved his pen (now called 'man cave'). I attributed that to several things - the change, he was then away from his sister on her trips out to potty (they were within ft of each other before) and I was out there each time and walked over to give him hugs etc. and he was penned in so I thought he just didn't like that! after about 2 wks I started cabling him again on the outer side of the man cave - he could go in...or out. I did that for several hrs in the evening hoping it would help him adjust. and of course, the heat here now! ugh! and he took to flipping his pool over so water would go all over the ground and then he'd lie in the mud. I didn't like that (he'd never been so dirty!) but figured if it cooled him I'd deal with it. prior to the pen change he was as active and ornery as he was when he was a pup. my sister said the same thing last night - that she didn't think he was ever gonna age and then boom! he is acting more alert today. not getting up tho. he did try to get up and bark at a worker - it was a sad sounding bark! I'm gonna spend some time tonight raking some of the stones in there over to the sides so he doesn't have to sleep on a bed of stone.

When sister and husband built their home they made wood counter tops for their 3 bathrooms. They were just trying to save a little money here and there and planned to put in regular counter tops some day. Seventeen years later they still have them. They did seal them with some kind of marine grade sealer to waterproof them. I don't know if it would have worked at my home, there is always water all over the counter top. Maybe they are neater at my sisters home.

Thank you all for your feedback. I was able to get everything; sample door, countertop samples, and tile samples all in the same location this morning. The while one is the definite winner. It is a lovely, silky, white with some depth. I really like it. It is a discontinued color so I am getting it at a great price.

Short answer is yes, If you look in HGTV design files under Candice OlsenÂs top 10 bathrooms she did a very nice bath using 1" mosaics and a beautiful red vessel sink. I think if your going to stay in the house any length of time do what makes you say wow! If youÂre going to sell right away then go basic and neutral. Just make sure the materials you choose are easy to clean and hold up well. I myself am stuck on the finishing choices of tile and color. I think I am going to have to check myself into a mental ward somewhere cause I have been kicking this around for 3 years and each time I kinda get interested in something I change my mind. I have seen all the bath shows and when I go to the grocery store you can find me looking at the design mags to find something that knocks me over and I say I have to have that. Well that did finally happen but the bathroom had a Green moss granite and well it's like 60.00 per sq foot just for the granite Opps. Yep, I got great taste.
