My Christmas Pictures

I have been so hesitant to post these, because you all have such beautiful things, but I decided that I love my things, and want to share them.

This is my living room tree. It has ornaments from my childhood, through our marriage, right up to this Christmas.

The den tree has mostly handmade ornaments, including many made by my grandmother. Also some vintage ornaments that I've bought on e-Bay. Could kick myself for all those I gave to Good Will years ago.

My snow scene. We have a board that goes over the mantel and onto the shelves next to them. This year I extended it onto a file cabinet.

I did take pictures of our table, but I will have to work on that before I post pictures. Maybe next year.

I have a very mish mash village. Some of the houses were ceramics that I painted, some came from the Dollar Tree, others were just ones I picked up.

The metal figures, are old I've probably had them for 45 years.

The livingroom mantel, I love this Lenox nativity set.

I'm glad you posted your pics everything was done so well. It all looks great! What bountiful gifts under the tree, loving the sled! I love that you have so many ornaments that have memeories. Great job!

Everything looks so pretty, your trees, the sleigh and snow scenes. I love what you've done with your mantel! You did a wonderful job of decorating. Don't be bashful, everyone on this forum is very friendly.

Thank you for all your kind words. It means a lot to me. I do have to chuckle at myself, though. I got my dates off with everyone home for so many days over the holidays. *Yestereday* was Twelfth Night, not today! I do know that it's the 6th, but thought that today was the 6th! Oh well. Syble: Yes, my good friend is a great crafter. She's made me many decs over the years, including the two Christmas Bear candy jars that you can see next to the kitchen sink. Jaybird: too funny! I'd forgotten how late you were posting last year's Christmas pics. We can be The Late Team here ;^D Luckygal: thanks for your comps and for the link, too. As for the painting on the antique window in my powder room, it's a piece I bought from an artist here many years ago. It's a reverse painting of three santos (saints). I LOVE paintings on old windows, and paintings and photos of interesting windows, as well. I wonder what some psychiatrist would say about us because of that(LOL)? Milosmom: thank you, that's such a sweet thing to say! DG: Now you can see why your wonderful tablescape using your own Christmas village pieces excited and inspired me so much. I'm already planning on using some of my pieces next year on a holiday table. What a great idea, DG! Phonegirl: thanks, I'm loving those dishes, too. They look so cozy and honey to me. Karen, I'm glad my pics aren't too late, thanks! I do love our family tree. I should have included a pic of the F-P "ornaments". They really are cute. I'm glad you remembered that it was Luvs who alerted us about the cardinals. I'll thank her in a minute, as I love how great they work on my mantel. As for your Christmas Village, maybe we can both try using some of our pieces in a tablescape, a la DreamGoddess', next year. Gosh, that was a great table idea! Kathleen: thanks! Will you give us a little seminar someday soon on photographing tablescapes? Either here or on your blog? I do remember you telling me to use a tripod. I need to do that, as many of my pics were blurry again this year. Any more helpful hints would be MUCH appreciated! Jeanne: I'm glad you and others here can appreciate our Southwestern decorating. I can imagine how different it could look to people not from here. As for my newest Phil Sonier photo, we're really enjoying it. This is the one Coldwater Creek used on it's catalogs for years. Phil told me that he actually saw it on a billboard advertising CWC when he was in Kenya once! That's a loooong way from Albuquerque! When it first came out on CWC, there was this big debate as to whether it was a wolf or a bear. I knew right away, but Phil confirmed it to me himself . . . it's a wolf. Luvs: and thank you for the great heads up on those cardinals! What a great buy for so little money. Yes, it was the best gift to have our DS home with us over Christmas. I miss him already. Jane: your compliments mean a lot to me, as I'm a huge fan of your own decorating and tablescaping talents. Thank you. OA: You can come anytime and be be a real guest here! "HL" is short for the store chain, Hobby Lobby. The Pecan Crusted Beef Tenderloins were fabulous. We found the recipe in Food & Wine. As for my trifle, no it's not hard, but it does take a while to get it all together. I first slice pound cake into long, thin, 1/4" slices and let them dry out a bit. Then I spread half of them with seedless raspberry jam, cover them with the other half and cut into 1" cubes. I sprinkle them with Marsala wine and then layer them in a large, footed, clear glass trifle bowl. The layers are the pound cake cubes, my homemade custard, fresh berries and tiny mint leaves, and broken (real, Italian) Amaretti cookies. I top it with mounds of fresh whipped cream, toasted slivered almonds, berries and mint leaves. Back in Victorian time, it was called a Tipsy Trifle because liquor was used in it. Anyhoo, it's wonderful and we all love it every Christmas Day dinner. Let me know if you ever want the recipe itself. Lynn

Thank you all so much. Re the "packaged" picture frame. I got the idea from an office decorating contest we had at work. The contest was not so much the quality of the decorating, but which one looked the most "Christmasy". The winners had decorated every single item in their office, including stuff on the walls. They covered the art work with gift wrap and bow, and that was my inspiration. (mine is actually a picture of some lilies). luvs, re the opened package, LOL! awwww, i feel like sally field *you like me; you really, really like me* (grin)... thank you ... thank you ... dd50, i have had accents of turquoise in the living room for 15 yrs., but until recently, i had a tough time finding anything turquoise! angelclub & sandi, i am so pleased you both noted the mix of shapes & sizes ... i think proportion, balance & scale are key in a good vignette ... since taking the pictures, my daughter gave me two more fantastic trees (my b.d. was wed.)that are made of feathers & they fit right in my little forest! purplemoon, i probably wouldn't have thought of using turquoise for christmas either, but my chairs (which you can see a little bit at the end of the piano) have some soft turquoise ... prosperity, hi again from one belgian to another! ooohh, i love the image of a caribbean sun in my living room ... bonnie & paintingfool, i agree with you on a favorite color! i like the stronger colors too, (ie teal) but the soft turquoise is soooo pretty ... the l.r. is 26ft. long, so i am able to have a lot of *touches* of it here & there without it becoming overwhelming! thank you all so much! ... phyl

Why would you not want to share ..Your decorations are lovely!!! I like that you use the bigger lights on your trees. I sooo love your mantel it's beautiful. And would love to see more closeups of your snow village. I would love to have smoe sleders like that. Thanks for posting I enjoyed looking.

Love the sled! I also really love the larger lights on your tree. I, too, could kick myself for giving away most of my mother's ornaments when she passed, including her aluminum tree complete with revolving color wheel! I LOVED that tree.

Everything else is lovely too.

I'm just loving that we're still getting Christmas pics!

I agree..I'm so happy you posted your pictures. Everything is so lovely. That tree in the Den is a Treasure for sure..especially with all your GDaughter's ornaments as well as the vintage. Also the fact that your main tree has ornaments from your childhood right up to the present, i think is so special. I'm not one for 'Theme' trees, although they are really lovely... As for me, a Tree filled with memories..old & new, is what I look forward to each year. I've collected some vintage ornaments, and hung on to some of my old ornaments,(from childhood)..they always remind me of such happy memories from that time. YOur mantel and snow scene is laid out beautifully. I remember that sleigh you had posted I think on another forum...I LOVE IT..I showed it to DH, because you said your DH made it, and that your Gkids take pictures in it each year. NOW THAT'S such a great idea and Memories they will treasure for sure! I told DH..to study it, and to create plans to make one......lol

I remember your wonderful sleigh too. Glad you posted more pics of your holiday decor for us to enjoy. I like both of your trees, but especially like the way you did the ribbon on the first one. Nice to have ornaments collected over time that have a special meaning for you. You have a lovely home, and have decorated it so nicely, hope you will keep sharing your pretty accessories and ideas with us.

I remeber you showing us that sled earlier in the season. It looks wonderful by your tree with the presents in it . . . what a great idea! I like your tree a lot! It reminds me of ours. No theme to it, really, but we like it that way. We call it "The Story of Us" tree. Like yours, it's filled with memories and we cherish each and every ornament, no matter how old, misshapen or funny as each carries a memory special to us. Your Christmas village looks wonderful on your mantle, too. Very nice!

Oh, I remember the sled too. Thats is seriously so great, esp since your DH built it! And I love your trees - esp the handmade ornaments one. Very nice!!

Wonderful sleigh - that is a unique decoration and looks great how you have it displayed. I really like how you decorated your mantel as well. Do not hesitate to post any pics - love to see what others do! Plus, posting "late" decor pics makes Christmas go on longer which I love!

To me, your trees are just what trees should be. I really don't care for "perfect" trees that no child can touch.

We also use the larger lights and they have to twinkle! I like to turn it on early in the mornings and watch for that first light to twinkle. I also have some "shiny brite" ornaments from my childhood along with a cardboard victorian angel in a cloud of fluffy spun glass by Noma.

I remember as a child sitting in front of the ornaments and leaning in close then backing away to watch my face change in the rounded glass ornament.

I've enjoyed your pictures. Happy New Year!

Don't know why you didn't want to post your pictures. It look lovely. Love the larger lights on the tree and the way you did your ribbon. I have given up on trees with ribbon. I love memory trees and this year I didn't do mine. Wanted a change and maybe that is why I wanted it down earlier. Love your other tree with the home made ornaments. Your mantel is great also. Thanks for sharing.

I certainly agree with all the above posts. Nana, you should be PROUD of your decor. That sled is fabulous, your trees so full of memories, your mantle decor is very pretty. And I love the Village with the added scene of little people skiing and skating and sledding. That is just delightful.
Thank you for sharing with us, and please don't ever be hesitant to do so.
