Electrolux Icon reviews for 36' gas 6 burner rangetop

Hello all- I posted a few days ago regarding a rangetop and wall oven on a budget of $4k at the very top end. As an update, I went to one of our local appliance stores today intending to look at the Bluestar. Well, I saw the Bluestar, fell in love, and then saw how much it was going to cost. Noting my thinly veiled dismay, the salesman pointed me toward the Electrolux Icon line, which at this store came in at around $2k fully installed. I am really excited about the prospect of a rangetop with this kind of performance capability (17.5k BTU) at that price. Any reason I shouldn't be? I know that the line is relatively new to the US market, so if anyone has any reviews, I'd love to hear them.

I have this cooktop and i do love to cook on it but am still getting use to its power(had a standard range prior)

I am also getting use to cleaning it :) Seems to require a little more work but starting to get the routine down.

I used the griddle(removeable) for the first time and had some fun with that! I picked the wrong kind of meat to cook on it but will try it again with what I think will be more appropriate and I think I will really like it! I have never cooked a steak on a stove, or for that matter in an oven; always use my outdoor gas grill, come rain, sleet or snow. But....it seems i can do a steak on this griddle so no more out in the pouring weather.

I really enjoy cooking and just couldn't justify the cost of some of the *pro*style ranges/cooktop. I think this was a good economical decision and it has the *look* too.

I also have the Electrolux Icon Electric/convection oven and I'm liking that too but have had some issues with it.

The Electrolux Icon appliances are very well built, very reliable, and they are the largest appliance manufacturer in the world. They build a great product, at a great price point.

We are an Electrolux Icon dealer, and they sell themselves.

Once we show a customer an Electrolux Icon appliance, they usually buy it...Especially if they were considering Wolf, Viking, or some other "similar" product.

Mom23Es, I looked at those a bit and while both offer sealed burners, it does appear there are some differences. The Elux Designer Rangetop has black ceramic glass top and may or may not have auto re-ignite burners [Electronic Ignition: Yes). I didn't download the specs .pdf under "Info and Guides" on the Designer to better appreciate if the auto re-ignite feature is present. You may well wish to as it's an important safety feature. The Elux Pro range has a stainless steel platform; black porcelain-coated basins beneath the burners, clearly states auto re-ignite [Electronic Ignition with Auto Re-Ignition: Yes], and also states a 270 degree turn to their hardy Pro knobs, a number not stated on their Designer series. Black porcelain basins are nice in that spills are not as easily seen as on stainless basins; I can't contrast with black glass as I have stainless. It can be tough to tell the differences sometimes. Opening up two windows and lining them up to each other often helps me. Opening up the .pdf may get you further details: I'd want to have auto re-ignite for sure. ""What is the history of NXR? Why do folks seem not to favor them?" =============================== not much "history" at all to speak of because they have only been around for about 4-5 years or so. Far as I can tell the ONLY people that seem to not favor them are those that do not own them. They are "Assembled in China" which to most naysayers is all they need to hear and thus proceed to bad mouth them from there without ever even using one. 98% of people that own them love them, the only actual problem I have seen where an actual owner has complained is I have seen 2 people say that the blue enamel interior flaked off on theirs. That is really the only 2 actual complaints I have personally seen about the stove. Much better BTW than any other stove I have looked at which usually have hundreds of complaints. Prior to buying ours I saw one other complaint but that one was clearly because of shipping, the stove was never even usable because it was damaged in shipping from the place they bought it from, that is hardly the fault of the stove though. All I know for absolute certain is we have had ours for 9 months, it looks great, cooks fantastic, has the burners that I want, has very solid heavy grates and oven racks. Very solid door and hinges that even after the oven being at 450 for over an hour the door is just barely warm. Has a nice infrared broiler. It is easy to clean. The burner configuration is exactly what I want, 4- 15K BTU double stack burners same as the Wolf which all 4 are also super low simmer and they are spaced far enough apart so that I can use a 12" pan and 10" pot on the same side, also my 14" Wok and 10" pot on the same side We use it 2-3X a day 6-7 days a week and have zero complaints. What more could I possibly ask for from an $1800 stove?, and that's the price shipped to the door tax free. Well worth the price we paid for it, and in its price range NOTHING else comes close. So we are happy and that is all that really matters in the long run, I am just glad that I happened on this site about a year or so ago when I researching stoves because otherwise I would have never heard of the NXR and would have ended up with some $1600 Kenmore and I guarantee would not have been happy with it. At that time there were numerous threads about NXR stoves raving about how nice they were for the price from owners that bought them and were using them. My wifes best friend bought the higher price model ($1900)of the Kenmore we were looking at, she got it the same week we bought the NXR, and when ever we go over there I always think to myself oh wow, THAT cost $100+ tax plus delivery more than our NXR? Jeebus. It is like comparing an old electric coil stove to a $6000 Capital Culinarian, her $1900+ Kenmore to our NXR. It has light cheap grates, only one burner that is like 18K btu and the rest are like 10K 9K and some worthless little simmer burner, the oven racks are light duty, the whole stove I think weighs about 130# less than the NXR, does not have an infrared broiler, even the "Stainless" version which is what she has is still mostly black enamel.

Both Wolf and Electrolux have issues with the blue porcelain. And its a really big oops on the Wolf. Electrolux seems to have resolved their issues with blue porcelain as there are not any complaints from recent ovens. Wolf still has ongoing issues, but the repair will now be easier with the bottom as a separate piece. Search blue porcelain in this forum to read about this. Looking at cubic feet or even the depth and width of the oven can be misleading. In looking at oven size, measure the rack to see what the usable space would be and then see how your pans will fit. Look at how the convection fan takes up space in the oven. Some have the fan sticking out into the oven cavity, which might allow for a handle of a pan to hang over a rack edge. Others place a wall across the front of the fan so they can say the back of the oven is flat. Some examples Wolf Electrolux The new Wolf ovens seem to be blue. Different fans! Wolf M series illustration Wolf M series photo Also look at where the racks are and how they can be used. On Elux, at least mine, the rolling rack cannot be put on the lowest position. The regular rack can be placed there. The best feature of the Wolf is the dual fans/elements. I think that is more significant in the 36 inch width though. Whatever you buy, get the longest extended warranty you can get.

1. I don't own either, so I can't comment on more than noted here. A 1200 CFM rating (neither will achieve this flow rate) should be sufficient, depending on many factors you can read about reviewing hood related threads on this forum. 2. Deeper (front-to-back) is always better for plume capture, so long as the hood is mounted high enough that it doesn't block one's view when cooking. 3. MUA in many municipalities is required by code. The MUA is intended to keep house pressure from falling too much and back-drafting combustion appliances, if present. Else, there may be a carbon monoxide hazard. MUA also is necessary for the hood system blower to reach a desirable fraction, say 2/3, of its rated (zero static pressure) flow rate.

I just had mine installed last week. So far I'm loving it! I've baked in it and used several of the burners. I chose it for its sleek design and I like the knobs better than the Viking or Wolf! I'm just a bit dismayed that it doesn't have a timer.

The price you quoted has me a bit concerned though -- I may have to go to the Best Buy website to check this out. The model that I purchased is the Electrolux Icon E36DF76GPS. (It's a six burner dual fuel) and I paid $4650 for it this past December!

fkbb-- i was talking about a rangetop, not a range... the pricing on your range seems about in line with what i've seen-- we're just doing a wall oven and separate island rangetop.

fkbb / others - how have you liked the power of the 18K burner on the Electrolux?

how does it handle stirfrying?

Anyone use the griddle / wok ring that can add any input (Kas81057 - you say you used the griddle but used the wrong kind of meat - can you explain further)

Trying to decide today between three 36" ranges - the American, Electrolux, and Bluestar. The Electrolux is priced a little less than what fkbb paid. The American even less - the Bluestar is priced the highest.

oooohhhh berryberry, this may not be a timely response :tried cooking a london broil instead of just a simple steak
which i still haven't tried since on grill nites weather has been good

We've had the 48" range installed for 6 weeks so far. We love it! The ovens are increadibly consistent, the convection modes work great, and the cooktop is excellent. The only complaint I have is that the simmer burner seems a little too powerful if I don't use the sinner plate, especially with delicate sauces. All in all, though, it is truely a great appliance.

I just saw the electrolux at Sears.
It was not the Icon series.
I'm trying to get clarification ....the sales guy at Sears said that their Kenmore PRO line is made by Electrolux, which is really Fridgidare. Not that that matters, but I was wondering if he was pulling my leg.

I guess count me among the many on here that was all set to purchase a Dacor double oven and 48" gas cooktop but then read all the negative reviews about them on here - well primarily about the ovens from what I can tell. So I've read, read and read some more and come to the conclusion that the Electrolux seems to provide the best combination of features, value and performance. So my question is this, should I go for the Electrolux 48" rangetop to match it or would the Dacor 48" still be a good choice? They're about the same price. Any thoughts?

I just went to look at the Electolux appliances today because I am buying a house that needs a total kitchen makeover. I loved everything but am concerned about support for repairs. I have friends with Wolf and DCS and Viking and repairs are very costly and difficult to get good timely service.

I can add that the service for dual-fuel 38" Aga is HORRIBLE! We have waited over two months for a part! That is why I'm reading your comments - I'm in the market for a new range.

We purchased this Electrolux Range and it arrived with the racks not properly welded and they collapsed! We have had the oven repaired >10 times in the first three years. We had a gas leak from a burned out component. Finally we tried to run the self clean and this "fried" the electronics and we could no longer open the oven door. We did not receive adequate support Electrolux ICON. We even called corporate headquarters in the USA and Sweden and the calls were NEVER returned. The exterior of this product with the stainless steel looks great., but the interior components did not hold up! This is the worst appliance we have ever purchased and it is actually dangerous.
