I totally agree with MacT and its why I've been refusing to let anyone scan my DL which you are allowed to do! Just insist! On the occasion I do that and grab a bottle of wine they always ask for my license, The first time over a year ago, she took it and swiped, I asked her right away, why cant you just look at it and see I'm WAY old enough?? She couldnt answer. Well as an experiment I went back the next week and did the same thing, only this time when she asked for my license, I said you can look at it but you may not swipe it. She said I have to, I said NO you dont. All you need to do is verify my age, and in over 20 years that used to be done with your eyes,m NOT a computer scanner. She called over the manager, and to my surprise, the manager keyed something in, and she politely gave me back my license. THere was some sort of note the pc generated on my receipt. Apparently you CAN refuse to let them scan, just insist. You need not put your items back on the shelf. I just did it again today, and of course there are people behind who sigh, because I am stubborn about not letting htem HARVEST my information off scanning my id. But I assured them, one day you'll thank me:) SO, let them check your id, and dont let them scan it. Make them call someone over. This happens alot more than you think, thats why they have a special code they punch in. Its an infringement of privacy and not necessary. Have a great weekend! Niki"

Some people are collectors of handguns. They've had to have had them registered for well over 50 years. There are strict rules as to the security with which they are stored. If they want to take it/them to a shooting range, they need to get a permit to do so. There's been some controversy lately, because some such people have had their guns/collection stolen, and some of those guns were used by people who had bought them in the black market in murdering people. They say that when a gun has been used in one rather high rpfile, or several less so, murders, its price on the black market goes down. A few years ago they started a registry program for long guns, and many fought it. Others said that it seemed strange that people had no problem with registering cars, but resisted registering guns. It cost huge amounts of money - over a billion, some said closer to two billion - and there was a lot of controversy over that. Some of us said that we didn't see why that should cost an arm and a leg, for they'd had a registry of all of the handguns for over 50 years, so it shouldn't be too hard to set up a parallel program to register the long guns. A recently elected government dislikes that registry and is talking about scrapping it. A billion (or maybe closer to two) ... down a rathole. ole joyful

"All those posters, who are complaining about older drivers, are you willing to volunteer to drive a senior, to the grocery store, or their doctors' visits?" Cold as it sounds, it is not the responsibility of people who are complaining about unsafe drivers to drive the people they're complaining about, around. It would be nice, and it would be charitable, but it is not their responsibility, nor are they obligated to accept having unsafe drivers on the roads if they don't want to drive others around. However, there does need to be some problem solving going on so that these older people can get to appointments and get errands done. But it is NOT acceptable for an unsafe driver to be on the road because they need to go somewhere. My daughter had to face that reality when her license was taken away due to a diagnosis of epilepsy, and the same goes for any other unsafe driver, including older ones. From my observations, police are quicker to ticket young drivers who are speeding slightly, than they are to ticket older drivers who's driving habits are unsafe. Many older drivers here drive slowly enough to obstruct traffic and pull out right in front of oncoming cars only to drive below the speed limit. They are never ticketed until they cause an accident. The younger drivers are quicker to be ticketed. Actually, a few years ago a senior citizen put her car in reverse and bashed into my car at an intersection, and then she yelled at me for not getting out of her way! She also refused to give me her license info, and a police officer had to get "verbal" with her to get her to provide it.

So looked up some info on the real I.D.,, which I had forgotten about completely. It's available in Frankfort and they have limited walk ins. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask if there are limits to walk ins. When I walked in here they asked me when my license expired and when I told them that's when they told me to call and make an appointment. They may have done it if it was way overdue?
