My dining room table seats 10 and can fit 12 in a pinch. When not in use, there are 8 chairs around it. Knowing I'd squeeze 12 people in there on occasion, I got 12 matching chairs (windsor chairs with wide backs). I'd be much happier if I had gotten a bench or something with a much smaller back for the extra chairs. The backs of the chairs are practically locked together when I have a full house. Really, I wish I had just gotten a couple of saddle chairs (no back at all). This would work especially well for me, since at least a few of my guests are usually children. Anyway, this is a long winded way of seconding the parsons chair idea or bench idea!

I don't think it really matters if it's 'back' or not. It's a *choice* to have all tables, upholstered peces, bedroom set, dining room furniture, or whatever match and be of the same style and finish. Even though it may be old school it's still a good look, and very popular with many homeowners who choose not to go outside the box if they're not comfortable with it. As for nail polish/lipstick or purse/shoes matching, I still subscribe to the theory it looks more pulled together, but definitely old school. In that respect, I guess I have to say I'm an old fashioned girl.

Looks really nice to me! I love those colors and it works so well with you have in the room. For me, i might have looked at the next-size-up rug to get the sofa feet onto the rug....but... Have you thought about maybe pulling the sofa forward 6-9" and placing a narrow console table behind it? It would come in handy in a small room. I love the rug!

Have you consider a table with the finish in the tone of the seat?
