Electrolux Icon Induction Cooktop

Electrolux Icon Induction Cooktop. I downloaded the parts manual for the above cooktop. The glass is one single part, but it does have a cutout where the touch controls are. Looking at the parts list, I see no gasket/gaskets between the touchpads and the glass. My guess is spills run into the touchpad and disable it until it dries out.

I will call Electrolux--since mine is still under warranty and "Pretend" I'm you---had a spill that disabled the unit and see what they suggest. I don't think silicon would be a good idea as it would make it a real "Bear" if the touch panel/panels ever had to be replaced but I think that the rubber you can buy that has a glued edge might work---you can get that at an autoparts store, probably Home Depot too.

Really sorry that the problem you are having spoils what I feel is a great cooktop. I havent had problems cleaning around the SS edge, if there is some dirt there, I just take a paper towel and kinda use my finger nail to kinda scrape along that edge---well till wife tells me to trim my nails LOL. The old one I had that was flush mount,(at least to me) was a much bigger pain to clean around the edge of it and the granite.

Hopefully we can work out this bug!!

Good luck dodge.
If you have no luck I will call them up here in Canada...even though it's out of warranty I had good luck with their support when it was in warranty with an oven I bought of theirs.

What part of Canada are you in. I used to be up there a lot and took my wife with me often. Been in BC, Vancouver alto I prefer West Vancouver(love the Lyons Gate Bridge)
Been in Alberta, Edmonton as well as the "End of the Earth"(Fort McMurray) as well as many trips to Toronto and saw the Falls from the Canadian side.

I remember seeing the reference to a slot, weedmeister. I spent some time today going over the installation instructions for about 6 brands of cooktops, and making a chart of all the dimensions, clearances, etc. I had been focusing on the clearances above and below the unit, but I've learned that the deciding factor is probably going to be side-to-side clearance. There is a pesky little dimension that I'd been misunderstanding - clearance sideways to wall. I'd been thinking of this as clearance to a wall above the counter, and since I don't have any walls nearby, ignoring it. I realized tonight that it meant clearance inside to the walls of the cabinets. (Sometimes I really feel stupid!) This is going to be a problem, because the inside width of the cabinet is just under 30". The cutout widths range from 28-1/8 (GE) to 30-3/4 (Miele), and they all need 1" or 1.5" on either side. This means that we will probably have to cut away some of the cabinet wall from the inside. I hope the contractor can do it. I don't even know how thick the cabinet walls are, and how much space I can get. There are cabinets next to this cabinet, so there are double walls and maybe some can be cut away. I am probably going to end up with the GE or the Kitchenaid because of this. The GE has a weird requirement for no shelves at all below the cooktop. I am going to have to call both companies tomorrow and find out exactly what the situation is.

OK we have the Electrolux Icon, (key word is Icon) to find that cooktop on the Electrolux web-site. Mine is the 30 inch model E301C75FSS4. We Absolutely Love it. Really fast, completely quiet (even thou it has a fan it has never come on--even with 3 burners going--alto not on high). We just can't recommend it enough, alto keep in mind we have only been using it a week or 2. Based on our other 3 Electrolux products that we have had for 3 years---we expect the cooktop to be as trouble free as those. I Think some folks don't believe the Electrolux is a Premium brand as Sears now sells them. When we bought the other 3 Electrolux) appliances They were not sold by Sears. When we bought the appliances for our kitchen, We completely ignored price Waited 30 years for this kitchen and figured waiting that long---we deserved what we wanted--(Ya Think?).So we are thrilled by all four Electrolux appliances now. I have the Kenmore clone of the 2007 Electrolux Icon. It sit on the surface, with a height that I would estimate as about 1/2 inch (ca. 1.3 cm). It uses this space for cooling air flow. It may as a result be less sensitive to the temperature rise of the cabinet air below it. I think if I were to flood the counter surface with liquid, then there would be some likelihood that liquid would leak under the edge into the cabinet space below, just as it would for any top mounted surface that isn't inset and sealed. I haven't had any flooding happen to me yet, though, and DW's experience seems similar due to lack of signs of spillage in the wire rack area below that holds pans. I can see upon close inspection that there are a few grains of salt sitting next to the edges that need to be cleaned. Otherwise, because the surface remains cool, there is no encrustation of glop. My version of this cooktop has metal strips at the near and far side, and not on the sides. The 2007 Electrolux Icon also had a strip between the controls and hobs, and I avoided this to me undesirable feature by buying the Kenmore. I haven't looked at more recent Electrolux induction cooktops, or for that matter Kenmore cooktops, so I don't know what differences have occurred. kas

I hear ya, and I'm not ignoring your message. What happened to our expensive non-induction cook top is that grease or whatever got on the touch pad as it was not separated from the rest of the cook top, Just like the Miele models you are looking at. For the first year I could scrub, (even to the point of "bloody fingers, Not Kidding), and get the thing to work a while longer, but eventually it became a futile effort. That is why we bought the particular induction cook top model we did, (the controls were divided from the main cooking surface). But I think that was "overkill" on our part as it is a rare post, (at least in Garden Web) where anybody, regardless of brand, has had problems with the induction touch pads. What finally made us decide to get rid of that piece of junk conventional smooth cook top, is that one night, instead of going to bed, I came downstairs to the kitchen, That piece of junk had managed to unlock itself, turn the biggest burner on full high, and not that far away was a towel---well that scared the livin' **** out of us, so I would never have one of those in the house again, (at least one with a touch pad). With induction, it won't turn on unless there is a pan there and we never leave one there. I know that your mind is made up, but I just want let you know the "Endless amount of grief" we had, and now we sleep well at night and feel a lot safer with the induction. I'm in the Toronto area...grew up on Niagara Falls.
BC is nice to look at...very laid back, perhaps too laid back in some aspects...
Not a fan of Alberta at all...the western part of the province is not bad but if you guys want to take them as your next state, you are welcome to them!

my Icon induction cooktop is still sitting in the warehouse at the appliance place. I'm ready to put a piece of plywood between two old base cabinets just to be able to try this out and see if there is any noise/spill issues or other things that have been dicussed recently.

But first I need to get my husband motivated to get the trailer out of the snowbank so we can go get my appliances. Would not need it for the cooktop but we do need it for the double wall oven that is coming with it.

My cooktop is not the same as the one you are talking about, they came out with an updated version right before I made the purchase. I saw pictures, but am anxious to see it in person.

Regarding the noise: If it happens on the electrolux with a particular pan, it's going to happen on another unit as well...it's really no big deal...

Just got back from Pacific Sales. None of their Induction cooktops is hooked up They are worried about their customers getting burned. Sorry about that, but I think between this post and others, we have covered the "Noise" pretty well???

DH and I got the appliances home last night. There is snow in the forecast for the next several days and we didn't want to wait. It's just over 60 miles one way, and not real fun driving around the city with an 18' stock trailer.

I got as far as to open the boxes. My new induction Icon does not have the metal band between the burners and the controls and it does not have the vent holes along the edge of the metal trim - it sits flush down on the cabinet. Those are the two things I didn't especially like about the first Icon - we shall see how it all works out in use.

I'm so excited about getting to use my new cooktop - I'll have to figure some way to get it hooked up. Now I need to find a new home for my free standing range.

That looks like a new unit...I just checked the icon website for USA.
I would not have been able to use this as there is no frame around it for ventilation...I think this is required if you have a heat source below.
