Saving 100+-year-old newspaper clippings

I have a box of newspaper clippings from the 1880s and 1890sÂreviews of operas starring my grandparents. Needless to say, they are deeply yellowed and brittle in the extreme.

I've been reading up on the best methods of preserving them. All instructions say to make copies, which I will certainly do. But I've seen no mention of using laminating sheets that use no heat. I had thought it would be good to encase them in plastic, but perhaps the glue used on laminating sheets is destructive to the paper? I would hope that's not the case, as it would defeat the purpose of the laminating.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Susan
