The Worse Move You Could Ever Make

I was living in a senior building (and loving it)My granddaughter convinced me to move in with her and her husband in their new home.I had not unpacked and she said she made a mistake.They lived too far out and they both worked and I should not be left alone If I got sick.Well I'm now back on the waiting list to get back in my old building.Some days she comes home and she"s nice other days she goes straight to her room and does not speak.I feel awful like I have done something wrong.Needless to say I have to go outside to smoke.ever see an year old woman outside smoking?Most of my church friends don't even know I smoke.Now The whole world knows it.Just had to get this off my chest.I feel better now.A word to the wise .If you can still breath don't move in with Nobody .Stay on your own until they carry you out.

I'm sorry your experience has not been a positive one and hope you are able to move back into your senior living building. Unfortunately, moving in with relatives does not always work out well.

Your story is a warning to all of us that the reality of having an elderly loved one living in the same house may not always match the fantasy. You've given us a different perspective -- from the point of view of the senior adult. I think sometimes we don't appreciate the difficult transition they must experience.

I have lived in my apartment for 15years and watched people move out or I thought they had died.Later the same people are seen walking down the hallways.I thought maybe I had died and went to heaven.No they moved back in things did not work out.what made me think I could make it work?I should have my head examined.It really was not my fault entirely.I went out one day to go to the doctors and got lost for two hours and had to have someone come and bring me home.They said I needed to be where the doctors where closer and they have public transportations.They lived in a million dollar community and para-transit is unheard of there.I'm 80 I can bunch back it might make me live longer.Thanks for the nice pickmeup note and God bless you.

estreya, as calistoga suggests go easy on your cleanup pruning , keep it at a minimum. i used havaheart deer repellent in conjunction with my inadequate fencing and it kept the rascals at bay until i improved fences. expensive but effective as a temporary solution. i'm speaking from hard experience last year as between the animal damage and my following inept/inexperienced pruning i surely set some trees back. the worst experience was cutting the browsed central leaders back and watching them die back 1-6 inches and then repeating the act after another browsing. my cleanup pruning was better rcvd by the trees after dormancy. if i can get some habeneros to mature before the snow in this years extremely short growing season , i also will try to make some homemade repellent. lf it comes together i will report it on gw. good luck with the hoofed stinkpots ! wildlifeman

Even worse...anyone here ever had to deal with bedbugs? (long)

I thought we had bedbugs about five years ago. It was during the summer, and at first I thought the bites on my skin were from mosquitos. But then I realized they were all under my clothes. And they itched even more than mosquito bites. They were wildly itchy. It was really intense. And they kept coming. I heard around the same time about outbreaks of bedbugs in NYC, and thought I must have been infested. But I hadn't been traveling. I called our state university extension office for advice, and the agent asked if I lived in an old house (yes) and if we'd ever had bats. I told him we used to have a large colony of bats, but they'd left a year or so earlier. He said we most likely had batbugs. Batbugs look a lot like bedbugs, he said, but they live off bats. After the bats left they eventually went looking for another source of food: me! He said they were coming down from the attic at night into my bedroom. This was very easy for them to do because my ceiling is the attic floor, with nothing over or under it. On his advice, I set off insecticide bombs in the attic. That took care of the problem, thank heavens. Boy, did those bites itch! I can barely write about it without scratching . . .

What was most disappointing for me was that while everything bloomed beautifully, the bloom time was nearly 'halved'. Damned excessive heat and arid conditions do not bode well for our friends. As Rhodyman cited, decideous and exburies were spectacular. Bud set on nearly everything in my garden was amazing after last years terrific summer growing season. As for this year? We didn't have rain for nearly 3 1/2 weeks in April here along the Jersey coast. Why couldn't we have received this past weeks rain in say late late April? Fwiw, my mountain laurels are spectacular as I write.

My cousin and her husband retired and have one. With plumbing and electrical, cawaps! They avoid the earthquakes, leave Florida when hurricane season comes, head back when the snow flies, set it up in their kids' driveways in various parts of the country. It's their fifth-wheel camper with pop-outs and awnings!

Shame on your granddaughter for convincing you to move in w/her & then treating you as she is! Every person deserves respect & thoughtfulness - even when we're having a bad day or don't feel well. Your granddaughter is being very selfish. I'll be praying you get back into your familiar living arrangement soon. Maybe she could find the time & consideration to take you to your Drs appts - that way she is helping you, but you can still live on your own.
