Fagor (or Wind Crest) Induction?

Does anyone have one or have you ever seen one? I like their specs, and Fagor is apparently one of the few companies who manufactures the induction components used by other companies.

I live in MD and there seems to be no one locally who sells them.

I'm just trying to see if anyone has any impressions of this brand, their service, etc?

I also like the Wind Crest model CTI365D which seems like a clone, but they mention a textured finish that hides fingerprints.

Have you tried typing fagor in the search box found at the bottom of any appliance forum thread list page? There is some fairly current info in the results.

I have the Wind Crest. I haven't dealt with the company so I don't know if they're good or not. It's pretty no-nonsense, no-frills. No timers, no weird safety stuff, no BEEPing when you remove a pan without turning off the cooktop (my old induction cooktop was pretty vocal).

The top is slightly textured which isn't uncommon--I guess it helps with fingerprints, but it also keeps the pan from skidding about.

Powerful and pretty quiet. No major complaints.

Seems to be a wording problem... People do tend to think that the cooktop should be cold to the touch as soon as they take their pan off of it because there is no heating element. However, the glass/ceramic top retains some heat and that is why most induction units keep a symbol or something on the temperature control to warn that the cooktop element they just used is still warm (my electrolux states H )...

I have had the Viking 6 burner induction cook top for 2 years now. It is fabulous. For any who are cautioning about the stainless steel border, I have no idea what they are talking about. Perhaps they are very messy cooks. The cook top is an absolute breeze to keep clean. I have only had to use a cook top cleaner maybe 3 times, and only a dab the size of the end of a Q tip maybe. I never have food that is stuck to the cook top that I require scraping or the use of those cleansers. How do I clean my cook top? Simple. I first go over the cook top with a dish cloth that is fairly wet and soapy. Then I clean that off. Then I rinse my dish cloth under hot water until it is clean of soap and residue, wring it out as much water as possible and go over my cook top with that dish cloth. The cook top is shiny like brand new and you will not need any other cloth to polish it either. And the control dials are well to the side, they do not get mucked up with splatters either. And if you are a messy cook, well all the control dials come off for easy clean up as well. And as far as the stainless steel border? Just my dishcloth, never any cleaner on it in the time frame I have had my cook top. And there is no rim or ridge where any food can accumulate either. The cook top is far more responsive than any gas cook top would be too. Cooking fast and hot, or slow as for a custard or sauce, no problem, you can take that to the bank.

Here is my cooktop cabinetry before the cooktop was installed, built by a pretty by-the-rules cabinet maker who follows manufacturers' clearances. I think he was a little conservative and could have gone with a slightly deeper drawer, but it's big enough for my purposes. The top drawer is a bit shallower than the neighboring drawers, and is also stubby front-to-back to accommodate the electrical plugs. Topdown view: The drawer front is a little tall to match the neighboring ones. I keep knives in it. It holds many knives. Never noticed it getting hot. I have a small kitchen and consider every drawer important! Shallow drawers have their purpose too. I have the 36" Windcrest, a year or two old. I'd have to crawl inside that tiny drawer to get the model number!

FYI- I wrote to Wind Crest about sizing the pan to the hob. Just rec'd an email from them saying they recommend that the pan be no larger than one inch-on each side-for best results. For the 9 inch hob, 11 inches is largest recommended. Nevertheless, our very own, Ms. Fori, is an experienced Wind Crest induction chef and her experience is that it still works well if it's a little over. A 12 inch bottom on a 9 inch hob will be off the hob for 1 and 1/2 inches on each side.

laat2 - I did find some Fagor reviews, but they were all for the portable unit, not the built-in cooktop. If I am missing them, can you give me the link? Maybe the Search is still not working well?

Fori- I do remember seeing your comments on the Wind Crest unit, and I'm pleased to know you still like it. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a good solid unit. Just wish there was somewhere locally that I could actually see one.

Can't wait for the kitchen renovation to begin, as I have 25 yr old Jennair that only works when I jiggle the burners. Probably anything would make me happy at this point, but I'm worried the new one will have to last another 25 years!

If you have reached this thread on a direct bookmark you should instead bookmark the forums listing page

When you click on "Appliances" in the list of forums you are delivered to page 1 of the appliance forum thread listings, the page where your thread is now listed. Do not click on your thread. Go down the page until you reach a string of forum page numbers across the page. Under that there is an empty rectangle and a search button. Write fagor in the rectangle and click "Search". The first several threads are not about portables and are helpful.

The search function "This Forum" found at the bottom of each thread listing page in this appliance forum returns 34 different hits for "fagor". Granted many of them are only a few words in passing and of little help. If the "entire site" choice is clicked the count jumps to 68 and includes items mentioned in all Home Forums like Cooking forum, Cookware, etc.

The search function at the top of this page contains only 5 returns from harvest forum and appears to be showing forums outside the home section only.

Another source for appliance info is in the the link. There is only one mention of a Fagor pressure cooker rebate problem which is good news. The KitchenAid range section is a bit longer.
