I'm in the Twin Cities and just bought an antique set on Craigslist for $800. If I were you I'd haunt the Craigslist antique and furniture sections for awhile to get a sense of what is there and what price. There are actually a lot of 20s-30s formal walnut sets, and whether or not they sell for a good price--or sell at all--depends, I'd think, on getting the right buyer. Good luck.

That style started in the 1830s, in Architecture as "Gothic revival" and had its last gasp in the 1920s in Sears Catalogs under the name of "Baronial". It went with the Tudor cottages and desire to emulate the rich who were bringing back entire castles or the innards of them. That is more elaborately carved than most of the Jacobean revival stuff I have seen. the cheap versions went in for turned, but not carved, legs and scroll-cut ornamentations. I like the way the seats of the chairs echo the wall, too. it's subtle but elegant. They almost look like Spanish Colonial revival. Here is a link that might be useful: Jacobethan era

Old thread, just wanted to add: There were radios built into tables, in particular the Atwater Kent 55 or 60 model built into a 6-sided table in about 1929 by Kiel furniture co. However the table had to have quite a bit of space (6") vertically inside to hold all the bulky electronics. I'm not sure how this one is put together but I doubt a radio of that era would fit under the average dining room table. If they did, the controls would have been on the side or top, not underneath. The Atwater Kent had a small hinged door on one side that flipped down to reveal the tuning dial and knobs. What you have there is called an escutcheon or dial plate, btw. I'm thinking they used it to repair or shim something. However if you find odd bolt holes that no longer hold anything, it's possible...

I have a 1960's Pennsylvania house solid cherry dropleaf dining table with 8 chairs in really good shape, with hutch. Does anyone know what it might be worth? My parents bought it new in the early to mid 60's, it is in a colonial style. Any help would be appreciated, as there is limited information that I can find. thanks so much.
