We are planning the final stage of our kitchen remodel that began 6 years ago. This will include a built-in refrigerator, granite counter-tops, new tile & back-splash and another Blanco sink. We already did the Wolf double-oven, Thermador cooktop/venthood, Blanco/Grohe, Bosch D/w, etc.

We have had our eye on the SZ 650 for several years now, updating our pricing from time to time, including now. With water hardness pushing 20 in our area, this issue is always at the forefront. This creates a lot of problems as other brands neatly solve the filtering problem. Not sure of your timetable, but we are flexible and find the new Liebherr 36" 2062 Series compelling enough to wait a little more. It has water and air filters. We're going to check into pricing & see if we can find a display somewhere. It comes w/ double-doors on top but that may not be so bad the way they're making those now - you don't have to open 1 door in order to open the other.

I engineered the cabinet modifications previously, including the special ductwork & design for our venthood, which is mainly rectangular, which was quite complicated. And, I spent a fair amount of time studying the filters available and where I would put such a thing a while back for an SZ650. I wasn't successful; where our refrigerator sits would necessitate a filter going into an adjacent pots and pans cabinet - hardly ideal. I'll monitor this thread in hopes someone has something unique and solves the problem. Good luck to you! :)

Many people on the forum have filters from Sears and Home Depot and love them. I have an Everpure filter and love it. Fridge manufacturers specifically say not to use RO systems. I don't remember the reason but it invalidates your warranty from many manufacturers.

Actually, I prefer that my fridge not have a built in water filter. Many of them are proprietary and expensive to replace as time goes on. Also, you don't get to filter out what is really wrong with your water.

Before purchasing a water filter, I would have the water independently tested and then select a water filter to remove the things that I want to get rid of. Each municipality has different requirements.

Do you mind if I ask what model Everpure filter you have? Is your Fridge a SubZero?

I'm thinking that Everpure models H-54 or H-104 will work fine for me, assuming that the flow rate and water pressure out of the filter will feed the SubZero icemaker acceptably.

I just want to get a decent filter that (like already mentiond) I can get replacement filters for easily, and will work with the new Fridge. We will be taking deliver of the SubZero unit late in March (I got a killer deal on a 2 month old floor unit that is being replaced!). Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but I just don't want to get things plumbed up and not have the icemaker work.

I'm in a similar situation. I plan to purchase a SubZero 695. It appears that a reverse osmosis delivery/demand pump such as the Aquatec RP200 or RP201 would make any RO unit compatible with the SubZero ice maker/water solenoids. Anyone have any feedback about these pumps?

I'm planning to use the Everpure H-300 filtration system for my Instant Hot/Chilled water at the kitchen sink, as well as for the ice-maker for my SubZero 632.

We have very hard water in W.Orange NJ, and I also will have a whole house water softener.

I am having a separate line run directly from my water main for the sink/fridge filter since it is recommended that I NOT use softened water at those appliances.

Hi Smarge - I forgot you were also in W.O. The water here is so full of chlorine I can smell it, but it soft compared to the town well water we had in Livingston, which left mineral deposits and ate the faucets.

I was going crazy trying to decide on a filter to replace our wonderful but extremely bulky, hard to change Multipure filter. I ended up with Doulton, recommended by someone on the Kitchen Forum. It INCLUDES a lovely faucet, choice of finishes instead of that cheesy litte faucet that comes with most units. I did not feel like spending another $300 for a faucet.

1)For $20 you can buy from them a line with a connection that goes either to your ice maker (I have an undercounter one) or your fridge (mine has its own filter). This way, you have 1 coming in and 2 going out: 1 connection to the filter faucet and one to the icemaker.

2) Doulton has a high capacity filter that gives you 1.4 gal a minute instead of the usual 1/2 gal/min. It is actually meant for offices with 5-50 people - LOL - but it only cost $50 more and I am so sick of waiting eons to fill a pot or my kettle that I was delighted. Oh, and Doulton said you need to change the filter only every two years.

Bottom line - nothing is installed yet, so I'm keeping my fingers x'd.

I use a filter system from the company listed below. They also carry Dulton ceramic filters cartridges, by the way. The Doultons are not taste filters, to the best of my knowledge. They are sediment and contamination filters. Taste filters always contain a form of charcoal, whereas the Doultons are ceramic.

I choose a double filter. We are on city water, but it is primarily well water, and tastes kind of funky, as we live near the ocean, so I wanted lots of filtering. One of the best things about this company is that all their filters are standard sized, meaning lots of variety in replacement cartridges, from lots of sources. For example, our city recently switched from Chlorine as a sanitizer to Chloramines, which are best removed with a different filter. So I switched the type of filter I use.

LIke several others who have posted, I have one filter that feeds our SZ 632, and a filtered water faucet. Having only one filter to change is less work and less money. You don't need any fancy plumbing to feed two different applications, a simple $3 brass "T" fitting will do, on the output side of the filter.

I have the H300. I have had it for many years. I also own a Liebherr fridge. I have one filter the functions for the filtered water faucet and the fridge. The flow rate on my faucet is more than sufficient for most of my needs. It takes no time at all to get a full pot of water for pasta. I replace my filter twice a year. I use filtered water for everything including some point of use humidifiers.

My plumber used a simple T fitting that costs about $1.

Even if I could get the pressure up, I wouldn't use an RO system to supply ice or drinking water. Stick with a good particulate filter such as carbon to avoid having all the healthy parts of drinking water removed. You end up drawing minerals from your body instead of supplying it with them.

FWIW....over 17 years I've supplied four refs' ice-makers from RO system. Each of them -- like your SubZero, I suspect -- had specs saying it wouldn't work. Each of them worked fine.

As I recall the minimum spec for water pressure was something like 30psi. My RO systems are Kinetico which supply 30psi only at maximum fill. When the RO tank is near-empty, the psi goes down to something like 10 or 12 psi. None of these ice-makers has given any trouble at any time.
