I like having all of the cooking activity in one area. Don't forget, that's all that was available till about 1960 or so. The one unfortunate part of my set-up is that the fan for the micro-hood (I have the Kenmore Advantium microwave/speedcook/convection unit above the cooktop) is not particulary effective, mostly because the fan openings are rather small and not situated where they will do the most good. It would also help if the thing was designed to better corral the steam & fumes toward the fan. Those over-the-range units are very convenient, but nobody seems to have made the fans very effective. Could be in part because customers don't complain enough.

Thanks for the response. I understand that you have to have 4" clearance between the two but where the clearance is measured from is what we are unsure of. I don't have the oven yet, so if it's square that question won't matter it will be the same. I'm trying to measure the front of the cabinet where we can't seem to get 4" with a standard cabinet. He is telling me we have a 4" toekick + a 3/4" base + a 28" cutout from the ground up which does not leave 4" to the top of the countertop. He is thinking once installed we would have 4" in between them inside the cabinet if we only have 3 1/4" on the face of the cabinet. I'm thinking the only option is to lower the cabinet base to level with the toekick instead of on top of it. That will give us an extra 3/4 that we need. But that means no overhang on that cabinet. He isn't sure how that will look and wanted me to try and find a picture. If you can, could you see if your oven is sitting on top of the cabinet base that is level with the bottom of all the other cabinets or is sitting lower then the other cabinet bases? Thank you.

I have the Elux Icon 30" Induction cooktop. It does not beep when you move or even remove a pot/pan. It shows an "F" and the setting you were using if you remove the pot/pan. You have 3 minutes to put the pot back, and then it continues at whatever heat setting you had set. If you leave the pan off for more than 3 minutes, it shuts off that particular hub. Ours has the big burner 10" up front, but I have put up many posts about using a small pan on a big hub, a large pan on a small hub, it is not very particular in that regard---if you put a large pan on the small hub and put a little water in the pan to see the heating pattern, at first you will see the outline of the smaller burner in the pan, but in less than a minute the whole bottom of the pan is bubbling away----this is more a function of pot/pan quality than the hub---we have the Emeril set which is layers (cladding) of Stainless steel, Aluminum and copper--as copper and aluminum are better conductors of heat than just stainless, --the heat spreads pretty rapidly. Anyway we've had the unit for about a year now and we really enjoy using it. We also have the Elux Icon 30' Oven/convection oven--that one for almost 5 years now. It too has been trouble free and we love the Wavetouch controls , the fully glide-out racks that are on roller bearings, the way it is lit inside, The big glass door which stays very cool and of course we luv its accuracy for baking. We're in the process of putting in a new kitchen. We had everything all design and just couldn't wait until we see the end result. However, the other day i was at Siemens' showroom and the salesperson strong do not recommend having an oven of any brand built under an induction cooktop. She said that since induction hobs ventilate heat through the fans installed at the bottom of them, putting one over and over will cause malfunctions to both the oven and the hob. And if any customer insist to have a Siemens oven installed under any induction hob, the product guarantee will not be available for going against Siemens' recommendation. I am just so disappointed because we have limited kitchen space and I don't know where else I should put an oven. Anyways, come to think of it, maybe this is the reason for how many of my friends have either a hob or an oven, or in some case, both, turned dead and not usable. Hope this helps!
