Cleaning/restoring tole trays

I have a collection of tole trays, painted by a long deceased family member. The trays are are in the 40-60 year old range, the paints used were oils and there is a significant amount of gold leafing on them. I'm not sure what she used to seal them, but several of them have succumbed to the ravages of time/heat-cold fluctuations while carelessly stored in an attic (NOT by me).

How/where do I go about having them properly cleaned/restored to the bright, detailed glory I remember as a child? How will I know the person isn't just a charlatan who'll add to the damage already accrued?
