Library table---Valuable or not?

Does anyone know if this library table has much value? It has a metal disk inside the drawer which says, "Gimbel Brothers Fine Furniture New York and Philadelphia". Solid cherry. Good condition. 48" wide, 28" deep, 29" tall

It was given to me in 1977. The person who gave it to me said it came out of an office overlooking the Savannah River and it was made in the late 1800's to early 1900's. I am thinking about selling it, but I don't know how much to ask for it.

What do you think it is worth?

It looks to be in excellent condition and I hate to say it, but the fact is people will look at the age and try to whittle you down because of the era. Go try to buy a new solid cherry table with drawers and see what it costs you. It's so dependent on your area what it will bring. Antiques here are plentiful and modestly priced, so I don't even want to pull a comparison as to current value since I don't know your market. I wouldn't give it away.

    UPDATE:
I contacted a professional antiques dealer and restoration expert. He told me my desk is solid mahogany, it was made around 1910, and in a shop it would be valued at $450.

I am very happy with that information.

nyboy, My husband says he wants to keep the desk. It does have a masculine appeal.

calliope, Thanks. You are quite right.

Oh wow ... Gimbels was a top notch department store, so anything they sold has a bit of provenance boost.

I'm clad your husband decided to keep it. It's a nice simple style that works in almost any house. And useful too.
