Comments (33)Ohhhh,,,,I just love reading all these posts! Karin, I am sooo past salivate I have to wear a bib to catch the drool !!!!! Part of my problem is I don't worry about available space. Or go into the future and wonder will it fit in??? I just jump in. And somehow it all works out for me! I must admit though,,,,,unlike some of the post I read I only keep one of every kind. I don't have multiples of the same variety. Unless it is in the baby growing, gonna find a home for stage. Su your new violets are delightful ! They were the first thing I saw this morning and they are beautiful!!!!!!! And I agree with you,,,a bunch of numbers on the label don't mean as much as a name does! AND easier for us to remember!!!!! I will tell you one thing Joanne (yeah just one thing??? what a hoot!!!) when I go visit my daughter I will have saved up a buttload of money. She says Optimara is about 2 hours from her and that is the only place I am interested in seeing in the entire state of Tennessee!!!! (Course in my opinion she really needs to move back to Michigan. I miss her. Yeah I know she is mid 40's but she is my baby and I miss her!) ANYhow! Karin last fall our local library had a very small new "garden group" form. It was only designed to last about 6 weeks. I found out about it after 4 meetings already passed but I was there for the 5th. When I walked in, there were only 4 others. I made 5. Everyone brought bulbs they dug, starts of stuff wrapped in damp newspaper and one lady even brought quart jars of jam! I thought it was just a "discussion" type meeting. You know, talk, compare notes on how to everything about gardening. Boy did I feel out of place! I brought nothing. But you know, they made me feel welcome anyway, and when they asked "anybody want this or that? I also have this or that at home I can bring next week" of course I said nothing. Without blinking an eye,,, the ladies didn't exclude me from the giving! I felt funny and tried to decline but they acted like I was part of the trading! I ended up bringing home jam and lots of goodies to plant. And I asked them would they like some of this or that from my yard that I would bring to the last meeting. I brought a boatload of stuff for the last meeting and I was so sorry that they wouldn't keep it going thru the winter. I guess the whole point of this is,,,,had you come to a meeting that I was a member of I would have still sent you home with a bunch of stuff. I would have gone out of my way to make you feel welcome. AND this is not a hindsight statement,,,,I have belonged to a few groups that I came to realize were hmmm, well I guess the word is "uppity". While I was there I still made newbies feel welcome and once I really got the hang of that group I decided I could and would live without them. This forum is welcoming, kind and generous. And I try to be the same way when I see someone who would like to rebuild their lost collection or just plain can't afford to buy+ship. Been there,,,understand. And I offer what I can. I love this group!!!!!!! Rosie...See MoreAmerican Performer vs. Blue Star RNB
Comments (51)Ugh, I'm sorry, all... I will make every effort to write a comprehensive review very soon. It's been on my list! For now, by way of a quick update, I'm still very pleased with the AR Performer. Awesome burner power for searing, quickly heating everything. The simmer is comparable to any other range I've used in the category of commercial/semi-commercial gas ranges. (I've used Wolf, Viking, Blue Star, but not Capital). The low simmer remains WAY better than even my mom's Viking cooktop, which is not nearly as powerful as the AR.) I do a lot of sauces and candy-making, and I have no complaints about the low-heat and simmer properties. (I usually use reasonably heavy/good quality cookware, mostly All-Clad, which definitely factors in). There are times, when doing a smaller batch of pasta sauce on a long simmer, for example, that I'll turn it off for a bit, but that's been the case with every gas range I've ever had. For most medium to large batches of soups, sauces, etc, the simmer is just perfect; I can get it quite low. The oven, also, is fantastic. I LOVE the large (full-sheet) capacity, and that's one of the reasons I chose the AR over the others. Heats very evenly, and I've been really pleased with how it handles everything from cakes to macarons, and the roasting and broiling is also superb. As I've mentioned before, none of the other ranges in this category can compare in terms of the quality of the shelves; they are heavy-gauge steel, as are the racks, and they are super solid and slide smoothly. That is actually something that makes a huge difference to me, especially when taking delicate items, like souffles out. I still highly recommend the AR Performer; I love it and have no regrets about my decision to buy it over the BS or CC. I say go for it!...See MoreIs Bluestar still in business?
Comments (84)Just thought I would post a comment in this thread and this forum as the comments and reports on this site really helped in my decision in late 2010 with my decision to purchase a new Blue Star RNB304BBS V1 range on November 23rd 2010. It took a long while to finally arrive out here in California, but it did on January 25th and was put into service on the 26th. We live in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and were concerned with the effects of our 3600 foot altitude on the range's performance, since our local gas company tech had related several horror stories about Wolfe and Viking owners being unable to get their burner performance dialed in correctly even after repeated attempts and factory service calls. We are also on LP here, so the range was ordered from the factory for LP use. We had this same gas company tech do the hookup and testing of our new V1, and although the tech had never worked on a Blue Star before, he and I both found the design to be laughably simple compared to the GE Profile range we had bought and later returned out of dissatisfaction with its performance. And to both of our delights, the BS needed only very minor adjustments to the venturis of the top burners and the oven in order to get them all PERFECTLY ADJUSTED! The tech remarked that out of the hundreds of ranges he had worked on, including many high end models, our BlueStar was by far the easiest adjustment session he had ever done. He also was VERY impressed with the overall build quality and of course, the 22k burners! When the range arrived the day before the above hook up, we did find a few problems: One of the top bowl grates had a chip in the coating caused by a very small hairline crack in it, and there was an odd blemish on the stainless steel of the 8" backplate we had ordered to replace the factory installed Island trim package. I placed a call to BlueStar Warranty Service and spoke with a woman named Mandy. I told her about the grate and the backplate issues. She asked me to inspect the other three grates while I was on the phone, and I relayed to her that the other three looked fine. To my surprise she told me that they would ship me FOUR new grates just to be on the safe side! These things are like 20 lbs of solid cast iron, and I don't think they are cheap to purchase, so that was an impressive offer! She also said they would ship a new 8" backplate out as well. They didn't need to see photos, or offer up any additional proof of the problems other than my word, and they also did not want me to bother sending the problem parts back. Mandy told me to just dispose of them as I saw fit, and in the case of the grates, just keep the extras in case I ever needed to replace one down the road. (based on my experience with cast iron, I doubt I will ever need them, but what the hell!) I have to say that based on some of the comments and complaints I had read on this forum, I was VERY concerned about what might happen if I ran into any problems with my new BlueStar range, but after that 5 minute call to the factory, I came away most impressed! I can't recall a time where a manufacturer was so prompt in handling a problem, and replacing the parts with no questions asked! In terms of the range itself, we couldn't be happier! It is a pleasure to cook on both on the stove top and with the oven. This thing is hands down one of the most satisfying purchases I have made in a very long time. Considering how simple the design is, I feel that I could probably take care of any future adjustments or parts replacements myself. The inner workings of a BlueStar compared to other stoves reminds me of the difference between working on my 1966 Mustang and my 2004 Honda Accord V6! ;o) (In other words, I wouldn't dare touch my Honda's engine, but I never had any fear of rolling up my sleeves to work on that 289 V-8) Cheers. Comments (35)Thanks, Isabel98! My first reaction was - is that you, mom? I'm lucky to have someone in my life who thinks all my decisions are great. Or at least she pretends that :) I don't have as much faith in me as she does! Hi romy718 - somehow I misremembered at thought you had quartzite countertops too. Funnily enough the only other stone that really matches mine albeit in a tiny sample is the imperial danby from waterworks! Thanks for the feedback on the stone - I feel it's not too characteristics of CG but the tiles are small enough they are show more movement than color. I also have a 1x4 sample of the CG and my DH really likes that. It echoes some of the other shapes in the room well, especially the horizontal movement. I'm concerned with that one that there might be too much horizontal movement and that the larger tiles seem to show more patterning. I'm really biased with the small square sample I showed because it reminds me so much of Roman mosaics. I think I really love it based on that rather than how much it's an absolutely perfect match for the style of the room. It makes me really happy to see it and I'm not sure if that's a good enough reason to choose it... I also felt this way about my mother of pearl tile sample but the tiles that I received weren't a good match for the sample (and DH wasn't a huge fan). Anyway, thanks for the feedback! I'm hoping my kitchen turns out a fraction as nice as all the gorgeous GW kitchens :)...See Moreyoyopa
