I am being nosy, how do you wash Als hair at the kitchen sink, I did this for over 15 years for the son. Now with his new bathroom, he still wants his hair washed at the sink. At least it is a handicapped bathroom.

I always use a cape, turned around backwards, so the long part is in the sink. He backs up till his chair hits the counter, then I roll up the edges and the front to form a pocket? I use snap clothespins to hold all that in place. Then I wash the hair, works good, I will admit he sometimes is wet in the front---I know they sell special trays that are for just that, washing the hair when the person cannot lean back.

When M. came home from the hospital, we had to use ----Ready for this----The washing Machine!!!!!!!! the only room with water on the lower level where he was, that he could get to. lol

Jeannine i wasd laughing when i read your post, why, because that's the way i do it, except i have a towel folded in front of the sink so al can rest part of his body on it - i guess chin. i also fold a towel around his neck and the cape. i don't have one of those hoses attached to the sink to i have a plastic one that you put on the fawcet. i also open the cupboard drawers under the sink so he can get a little closer. they have washed al's hair with the tray in the hospital, but you still have to have a pail under it to catch the water. funny how creative we all seem to be, i love it! enjoy your day, we're getting ready for rain but it's about 50 out right now, so for us it's hot - ps - i have shorts on!, i know probably you're all saying what a fool, that's cold out!

Hi girls,
I thank God mom can still wash her own hair in the shower. She has a bar in there that she leans on that I don't know where the girl had the sense to put it in there because she had kids.. Maybe one of kids was handicapped, I never met them..

Anyway, she does her own.. I don't know what I'm going to do once she can't do her own anymore.. She's way to big heavy to get to the sink and to little. I don't think she can stand that long.. But I guess I cross that bridge when I get there..

Thanks, still have to design and build/have built medicine cabinet and storage cabinet over toilet, paint edging for one edge of tile, redo window sill (too wide now that tile is up), paint door trim and door, install granite, faucet, sink, drawers and handles... Well, phoned CS this morning, she asked "Did you clean the walls first" (slight language barrier as think she must be French LOL), "of course" I replied. Thinking aha, that's probably what it was. DH installed glass when I was away, and I'm pretty darn sure he would NOT have cleaned it off before he applied the seal (comes with very high bond tape). So, not sure how we will address the seal on the stationary glass, we're thinking somehow heat it up (maybe with hair dryer) and try and reseal it... They will be sending out new seals via FedExpress (hopefully today), but DH wants to try using the heating up method to get these current ones to reseal, and keep the new ones as back-ups. They seem pretty securely fastened today... Dreaming, the bottom shelf is a piece of our granite 'Aran Creme', and the back is a stone mosaic, probably limestone or travertine marble. We will use the same mosaic as backsplash for the vanity along with matching marble pencil liners for edging, still have to decide how high to go...

I'm surprised that more people don't seem to be looking for this. It was definitely a priority for me in our Master BR. I tend to do a fair amount of hand-washing delicate items, and thought that having a sprayer would facilitate rinsing out. Just doing online searches (couldn't find anything in person anywhere), my favourite pullout was the Green Tea by American Standard, but in the Brushed Nickel finish it was almost 10X more expensive than the one I found on eBay by Pfister. I splurged on many things in this bathroom, but just couldn't justify that cost to myself...in the States I think it's probably more reasonable. Anyhow here are two pics, first one the Green Tea, isn't it pretty? The second, the Ideal, which is pretty enough...and not installed yet, so can't comment on how it works...

If you want the spiky look, then mousse would probably give you the finish you want. My hair has gotten some curl in it which tends to get unruly in the summer, so I've found "It's a 10" leave in conditioner which seems to control and add a lot of shine. I get the walmart equate version though. I figure if it's popular enough for walmart to copy it, it must be well received in general. This is me on vacation in ID, just toodling around...I also don't color my hair...never have and am delighted to not have to start...yet anyway. But short hair is wonderful. It takes me 30 sec to dry my hair and go. Last thing I want to do is complicate my life. Congrats on the new do!

Since one of my SILs used to wash her teenage sons hair in the kitchen sink even though he showers I have often wondered if she took this to heart. I would have died of mortification when I was 17 before I asked anyone other than at a shop to wash my hair. Now if dawn would remove my fat I might do this. I do know some people that will shower then wash their hair in the sink and never understood it unless they were afraid of getting water on their face. The took a water class three days a week so just chalked it up to one of those things.
