rain head mount & polished nickel questions
Comments (6)Our rain showerhead will be installed this week so I'm still waiting to find out if we made a good choice but here are my thoughts... 1. I need help deciding if 8 inch is wide enough to enjoy the rain shower experience. I am concerned that if I go larger, I will have an issue with less pressure causing it to be less enjoyable. Besides the diameter of the head, there are also varying numbers of nozzles and also the GPM rating to consider. I would look for the highest GPM, which seems to be 2.5, from what I found. 2. I also don't know whether to ceiling or wall mount it. 3. If I do wall mount it, how long should the arm be? I also prefer the look of a ceiling mount but agree with nycbluedevil. 4. If I ceiling mount on 8 foot ceiling, how long is the arm? It will depend alot on the height of the rainhead that you choose because I found that they vary quite a bit. We have a tiled 8' ceiling and just had to choose a different rainhead because we decided to go with a shower door that went right up to our soffit. The door cleared the 5" stub left by the plumbers but none of us realized at the time that our rainhead was unusually tall. We ultimately found a rainhead with a lower profile and won't be using an arm at all. 5. Is there a disadvantage to a arm with a hook rather than a straight design w/wall mounting? I can't think of a disadvantage other than any limitations (outside walls, etc) you might have on where you could run your plumbing. Can I mix other vendor hardware - is polished nickel the same across vendors? It's not the same across vendors but it can still be mixed in many cases. We have all Sigma faucets but will use a Jado rainhead in place of the Sigma rainhead. Jado calls their polished nickel "platinum nickel" but it goes just fine with my Sigma faucets. Sitting side by side with my Sigma rainhead, it might look ever so slightly cooler in tone but that would never be noticeable once it's installed. If you decide to mix vendors, I'd just make sure that one (or both) have a return policy if you don't like how they match. Comments (6)I'll let you know in two weeks :) We're installing a 12 inch - the feedback I received from friends who had them was bigger was better. It feels very warm and cozy to be surrounded by the rainshower. The rainshower doesn't supply a very pressurized shower experience regardless (think gentle rain not massage spray) Can you switch out the valve? We did a lot of research on which thermostatic controllers supplied how much water (plus how much you can get from your hot water heater) it's crazy how complicated it is! I'm not sure exactly what you mean by visually - if you're primarily interested in which one fits the scale of your bathroom, you should probably just check out a supply room and look at the different sizes -...See MoreWalk In Shower - rain head YES or NO
Comments (19)I find when they function for hair rinsing they are better than the standard small head because I am not only getting clean I am also engulfed in warmth and the experience is quite comforting. I dislike my large one for cleaning and do not wish to waste water just to get the relaxing benefit which is why I despise that one. I would happily change it to another better pressured head but it is my bald husband's favorite. Many bath show rooms have multiple tubs and shower experiences to try. Just bring a bathing suit and towel. Or read the reviews for the ones you are considering at least because some are truly blissful in form and function while others do not function aswell....See MoreNeed Help with designing a rain shower head and hand held sprayer
Comments (5)My contract with my GC provides that I supply the fixtures and obviously the rough stuff as well since it has to work with the fixtures. However, at some point someone who understands technical plumbing issues should be doing the purchasing or telling you exactly what to purchase. When I was selecting my shower fixtures, my designer obviously helped me with the look of the fixtures but she also explained the difference in shower valve temperature regulations - thermostatic versus pressure balance and then I decided which kind I wanted. The shower fixtures you select would then determine what rough you needed and she was responsible for ordering those. In other words I selected the style and how I wanted the end use experience to be like but she was responsible for making sure that everything necessary was provided to the GC so his plumbers could install what I wanted. So although I was providing the fixtures to the GC, someone with technical expertise was guiding me in the purchase....See Moremommielady
