I have an Ikea Lillangen sink, too! I love it! I bought it for its simple design, compact form factor, and specifically because it had those cool trays and stuff. Not to mention that it was only $49.99!

Note that I mounted the sink asymmetrically (see below) on top of a 31" x 18" piece of Silestone to make the most use of the available counterspace. Though, I didn't install the cabinet legs--instead, I mounted an in-wall aluminum bracket and "floated" the whole vanity. I actually like your Grundtal faucet better than the one I have (we're going to replace this with an automatic faucet anyway).

Ikea Lillangen sink + cabinet + Silestone quartz countertop + Rakks 12" aluminum bracket + Grundtal roll holder.

This replaces the dated 29" x 19" vanity which had a large oval sink, on-center, leaving very little counterspace on either side of the bowl. Adding only two more inches to the overall vanity width, and pushing the more compact Lillangen sink to one side gave us loads of room on the right to comfortably rest multiple flat irons, driers, product, etc. The old vanity's sink wasted so much space--everything continually fell into the bowl, and I find large bowls a complete waste anyway, and just make for more surface area to keep clean. The Lillangen's size is just right!

About plumbing this thing: we didn't care about ever stopping up the sink, so we left that assembly, unassembled, and used the simple, friction-operated, pop-up drain thing that came with either the sink or the faucet (don't remember which). Between the sink and the faucet, your plumber has everything he needs (except putty, stops, etc.) in the Ikea box that he'll need to install this. However, you may want to replace the white Ikea plastic trap parts with a prettier chrome trap or something later.

What great use of those Ikea components! Would you please share any more of your bathroom pics? Did you have the silestone finished professionally? Is that a bathroom cabinet or a kitchen cabinet? How do you feel about glass doors as bottom doors?

(We are an Ikea Hallarum kitchen, Pax in the master bedroom, Hollviken family in the Master bath, and lots of that birch line that's discontinued for DD's bath (in process). Blanking on the name of it. Just by way of Ikea cred :))

Studio 460: Thanks for your reply. I love how you mounted your Lillangen! I, too, love its design. I had read online about some problems about the connections not matching (1/2 inch vs. 3/8 inch?) so am glad that you had no problems. I also bought the Lillangen wall cabinet for above the toilet. Below are some pics of the current, very ugly, bathroom. Am keeping the tile but replacing the floor tile, toilet, mirror, light, and shower door. Will also paint. Any design suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

And, yes, I believe that custom applications of off-the-shelf Ikea components can really expand your design options. We have Pax systems in the bedroom as well. Very happy with our Pax install in the master bedroom--these systems make excellent use of limited spaces. Now, on to your questions:

Did you have the silestone finished professionally?
Yes, I had the same fabricator (Pacific Stone Designs, Commerce, CA) that did our kitchen counters re-dimension and add the edging to two sides. The small Silestone slab for the vanity was actually one of the cut-outs left over from the kitchen sink and the cooktop voids. Total cost (not including material): $250.

Is that a bathroom cabinet or a kitchen cabinet?
That is the bathroom Lillangen cabinet designed for the small Lillangen sink. We wanted to use an Abstrakt kitchen cabinet instead, but we needed a 16"-wide cabinet to fit the vanity counter and still line up with the 16"-wide Lillangen sink.

How do you feel about glass doors as bottom doors?
I love 'em. They look ultra-cool when backlit. Will probably install some LED lighting inside the cabinet to take advantage of the glass door's translucency. However, I actually would've preferred to have had the same doors as we have in the kitchen, the pure-white Ikea Abstrakt stuff, but it simply didn't come in the size we needed. I think the solid Abstrakt foil-finish doors would've made for a sleeker, more "expensive" looking vanity.

I am going for a modern vibe in this bathroom, even though the rest of the house is not modern. Yes, we are keeping the wall tile due to cost. I don't mind the color and I think if everything else is new then it will look OK. For the floor, I'm thinking of a square 12 inch tile, set on the diagonal. See link below for a possibility. As I mentioned before, I have also purchased a matching Lillangen wall cabinet for above the toilet. I'm thinking of a simple mirror and possibly a chocolate brown for the walls. Not sure about the window treatment. Thanks!

I just re-read your last post . . . I'm so pleased that you liked my "custom" Ikea Lillangen vanity! This is in the guest bathroom, which was my first-ever bath remodel project. It was a good "practice" bathroom. The master bath is next (albeit, smaller), and I really want to upgrade the design quotient in that one.

About your bath: your decision to keep the wall tile pretty much both limits and defines your available palette for the rest of the surfaces. If you were able to delete the wall tile, then of course, your color options become wide open. Personally, my design tastes are extremely modern-industrial-minimalist. In my view, the color of the primary surfaces (i.e., walls, floor, counters, etc.) is the most important design decision. When it comes to palettes, I really only have one: neutral grays, pure whites, and metals. Color, is mostly reserved for accents (e.g., we're doing bright, "recycle" green backsplashes).

But, I think if you look at all of what Ikea has to offer, even in different departments, you may find more design ideas to apply to your bath. For example, I'm using a Grundtal stainless steel shelf as a folded-tower holder in our baths (like the ones used in hotels). Try to get creative with some of their other shelving ideas as well to make the best use of the space.

I do like the pattern/texture of the tile you chose. But did you know you can buy "real" porcelain tile (the kind with "color all the way through") for about $4.50/sq. ft., only about a dollar more than the glazed porcelain? Check out places like Daltile. They give professional tilers decent discounts. If you argue enough, they'll give it to you, too.

Also, don't mean to beat a dead horse, but demo'ing that wall tile should only cost like $200. Slap up some drywall/cement board, patch and paint, and you'd be good to go.

Sorta wandering off-topic, but I noticed that Daltile distributes many more products than they show on their website. The porcelain tile I chose is from Casalgrande Padana (just Google them to find their site), imported from Italy and sold by Daltile here in the U.S. I chose their Granitogres series. You may find something similar in their Granitogres Rusticato series. This stuff retails for about $5.00/sq. ft., but you can haggle 'em down to maybe $4.50 or even less (the Rusticato may be more--I'm not sure). Note that this is handmade tile and does exhibit some degree of irregularity in dimension.

Don't mean to make you spend more than you've planned--if you're happy with the Home Depot glazed porcelain (which I'm sure is just fine), then by all means, get it!

Hey studio460: Thanks for all of your input. I don't know anything about tile, and didn't know there was "real" vs. glazed. I don't mind paying more for better tile, especially since I will only need about 36 square feet. I think HD sells Daltile.
Regarding the wall tile, I'd like to meet a tile guy/gal who will charge $200 to demo that tile!
I don't mind the color, since it is neutral and I like the brown family anyway.

Hey, jeanteach! No problem! Do you have any of the cut-outs left over from your granite in the kitchen? Those make perfect vanity tops, ya know! Just plop the Lillangen sink on top like I did, or mount it on the side, or use as a shelf, blah, blah, blah . . .
