Grout Boost
Comments (6)I have used Grout Boost. Here is my experience....hope it helps someone. It costs about $40 a bottle (not cheap), which is supposed to be enough product for a 25 lb. bag of grout....hardly. You need close to 2 bottles to get it spreadable. The directions say to add only up to 12 oz. water if it isn't the desired consistency. Following the directions, I could not get the grout to a good spreadable consistency without adding more than 12 oz. water. It also sets up very quickly, getting so stiff that you have to add water and re-mix several times throughout the grouting process to be able to spread it between the tiles nicely without a crumbly mess. After the floor I tiled had 48 hours to cure, I went to clean the remaining residue off the tiles with some plain warm water, and the gray grout became quite dark... almost black.... and did not appear to be water repellent, like I expected. The water seemed to seep right into the grout. I don't know if it will resist mold and discoloration, but after watching it take more that 2 hours to return to the "dry" color, I see that I will have to seal the grout, anyway. I will be tiling the walls next, and will grout the old-fashioned way, and seal like I've always done. I feel this product was a colossal waste of money, and will be returning the rest for a refund....See MoreHas anyone dyed grout on a pool?
Comments (6)Hi Houseful, thanks for the congrats! I heard about a backyard makeover that a morning tv talk show here in Houston was giving away. It was for the "most deserving" family. I had to write a brief paragraph and submit pics of my backyard. We have 3 boys in wheelchairs plus another very active boy. Actually, I think the tv clips are still on the website, www.greatdayhouston.com. You click on, "and the winner is...". We were finalists #4. It was all done by voting online. It has been a wonderful experience for all of us. We are getting not only a pool, but a spa, kitchen and mosquito control system, landscaping, pergola and extra decking. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how! Regarding the grout stain, I called a 1-800# off of a bottle of stain I saw at Home Depot. I forgot the brand, but they said it wouldn't hold up to the chlorine water. Rats. This white grout looks like bathtub caulking. Yuck. There is too much of it to remove (lots of small tiles on a large wall as well as waterline tile). I hate to make a fuss since I think the pool company has already gone over their $60,000 budget. They are putting in an upgrade finish that is smoother than plaster as well as a few other extra items. I guess I'll have to just plan on staining the grout every year or so....See MoreHas anyone changed the color of their grout?
Comments (4)I actually thought about doing a two-layer grout on my floors. I wanted a very smooth grout so it would be easier to clean. Unsanded grout is smoother so I thought I could put a thin layer of unsanded grout on top of the sanded grout (required for wider grout lines due to shrinkage of unsanded grout). I didn't do this in the end but I still wonder.... That brings me to my response which is a concept since I haven't actually done this. IF your grout hasn't been sealed yet, which it probably has, you might be able to just grout over the lighter grout. Even though your darker grout will be a very thin layer, wouldn't it's pigmentation particles remain in the pores of the lighter grout? If your grout has been sealed, you should be able to remove the sealer with an acid grout cleaner....See MoreHas anyone here tried the vinyl floor tile with acrylic grout?
Comments (0)I am about to redo my kitchen and the vinyl tile today sounds superior to porcelain. I have used polyurethane grout on my other tiles floors and love it. But it seems you have to use acrylic grout for vinyl tile. I am concerned about the maintenance of the acrylic. Any advice?...See Moremuddypond
