American Standard air jacuzzi - Lowes

Anyone ever use the $800 American Standard jacuzzi tubs from lowes - the air bubble type?? We are remodeling our bathroom and considering one... I have read the horror stories about the whirlpool kind - mold, etc...but how about the air?

I'm putting one in my bathroom, at list I think it's the same, I got mine at Home Depot. I don't have much to offer you yet, but I can tell you that even though this unit is air 'air tub', it does circulate water through the pump (and heater if you install one) and pulls air into the lines through a series of inlet valves. So it seems that whatever concerns you have about whirlpool lines getting funky will also apply here.

FWIW, I have run the unit for about half an hour to test for leaks, and my wife is REALLY looking forward to being able to use it. It looked very relaxing.

I think that this is the same product that I checked into at Home Depot. While there, my salesman called American Standard Technical Support who said that it is not a true air spa, but it gives the sensation (effervescent bubbles) of an air spa. Water still circulates through the jets, but the jets are designed to push the air down toward the bottom of the tub causing the bubbles to rise.

The best place to get the technical information is from the 800 number Technical Support. I am sure they can address questions on noise levels and cleansers for the jets. Like Codnuggets, I was told that you can install an "In-Line" Heater that will keep the water at a constant temperature, but will not heat the water hotter than its original temperature.

Codnuggets, let us know how you and your wife like it once it is complete.

Ya I've had THREE of them (from home despot as well). The first had a flaw in the area the drain connects (three different plumbers confirmed at my cost). The second had pin holes in the base so when installed, it didn't pass the water hold test. The third had a flaw in the motor. I took the dead body back to HD and will NEVER NEVER NEVER buy an American Standard from them AGAIN!!! Really, lovely price, lovely idea, pure crap product. I purchased a Jacuzzi from Lowes instead and the first one was perfect (same price range, but special order). My plumbing bills could have bought me two more tubs.

gaelen these are my minimum specs for a new HP system. both outside and inside units should be replaced to have a properly matched system. 15 SEER, 12.5+ EER, 9 HSPF best matching VS air handler full BTUs in both cooling and heating for your rated size R-410a refrigerant(same as Puron) scroll compressor preferred electronic demand defrost preferred thermostat with "dehumidify on demand" feature staged backup heat strips new and correctly sized refrigerant lineset you want a thorough inspection of your ductwork system. size, overall condition, supply and return lines, insulation qualities, leak test, etc. any hot/cold spot issues in your home should be addressed. I would only use authorized dealers for the various brands that provide quotes. see mfg websites. I would look at Trane/AmStd,Rheem,Carrier/Bryant. ...... I would not purchase a re-branded system period. I find that type of selling strategy very suspicious. I did go on the James River site and it told you very little and absolutely nothing about the manufacturers they represented. for me, that raises a red flag. I am not certain you could get a certificate for HVAC tax credit qualification on a so called James River Select model. Take a look at my link below on one of the reviews. The AmStd dealer is listed as an authorized dealer? You have been quoted a Heritage 15 HP system. Excellent sgl stg HP system. You are replacing a three ton system? What size heat strip do you have? Trane/AmStd make a 7/12KW staged heat strip that I would recommend.I would ask dealer to break out the cost for the zoning control and other associated costs. What mdl zoning control? Why do you want it? I assume this includes ductwork modification. Correct? Thermostat selection depend on whether you go with zoning controls or not. Trane has been behind the curve in this area for many years compared to Carrier. Honeywell has had a long business relationship with Trane/AmStd and makes their stats. The HW VP IAQ would be top of line if you elect a non-zoned system. Other choice would be the 803. If zoning controls, then a good basic on-off HP thermostat(2) as the zoning control board would handle the system's operation for both zones. I am not a fan of the CleanEffects(AccuClean) because of the maintenance/cleaning schedules that most homeowners do not follow. I prefer a good 4-5" box filter cabinet Merv 10. I am not going to comment on the need for ERV or Humidifier as you know your home's characteristics and envelope better than I do. American Standard or Carrier Hybrid Heat Pump/Gas Furnace?

Hi, I'm in the midwest and have a 5100 sq ft home. I'm looking at replacing my 17 yo furnaces, 2 Carrier Weathermaker high efficiency , with electronic filtering system , (eletroair SST), two air conditioning units, one blown and one 4 years old (got 10 years out of the blown one) with a similar set up to above. Recommended by the dealer is 1 American standard 16, 2ton communicating heat pump with a Am ST. Freedom 95 60K btu, 3 stage furnace and Acculink 900 comfort controller... AND 1 Heritage 16, 3 ton communicating heat pump with Freedom 95, 80K btu, 3 stage furnace, both with the AccuClear air cleaner system. We could keep the 4 yo air conditioner for a while, and put in the extra heat pump later. We could keep the current air cleaner (the kids, who sleep near it downstairs say it cracks and pops a bit). I'm looking at getting another quote, and from the looks of it above Carrier would be the place to get another quote and opinion. The American standard dealer made a big deal about the communication between the furnace and heat pump, calling this "geothermal above ground, at 1/3 of the price". We probably could get a couple more years out of our furnace, but has needed repair a couple of times, and were told it could become a problem, which we'd like to avoid in the middle of winter. We did consider geothermal and priced that out last year, and just felt the retrofit wasn't worth the bother. A contractor friend recommended that future high efficiency furnaces would make the geothermal unnecessary, at least for retrofitting. Any opinions out there?

Thanks for the link homebound, I always forget the search tool. I did find some scale build up and cleaned out the underside holes. Nothing really plugged solid though. Also dropped my wifes compact into the toilet, oops. I really think it's my problem only and without getting gross we had house guests over the weekend due to the storm and none of the other adults had a problem. If this continues I am going back to a regular toilet of I can find one. There is nothing eco about flushing more than twice every morning, that is wasting water in the long run.

Hello all,
I got out of the whirlpool business several years
ago, right when the "air systems" was starting to
take off. but the principle of your whirlpool is the same
as any other. Stagnate water is the cause of the mold
and other goodies we love so much. :-)
If you use your tub jet system on a regular basis
and clean the system once every two weeks or so
you won't have a problem.
go look for whirlclean or any type of product
to prevent algea growth.

Mommielady, you're right about the jets, they shoot a water/air mix downward and the bubbles are supposed to roll across the tub bottom and then float up around you. I'm cautiously optimistic that it will work that way. Frankly, as long is it makes bubbles, I think my DW will be happy :)

I have the heater installed, and you're also right that it will not heat the water. It's only supposed to maintain the temperature during use. I'm less optimistic about it's ability to keep the water warm given it's low amperage, but I think it will slow the cooling process at the very least.

I will report back after the tub is in. It may be a while because of a granite snafu.

We found six-jet whirlpool tubs for $300.

Can't testify as to quality at this point, but worth checking into.
