Well I did it!! The unthinkable, gave my cold to both my hubby and son. That is a first. Usually Michael does not get sick and glad of that, but tonight he complained of a sore throat. Hope his only lasts a short time.

Michael got his hearing aid for his one ear, and is loving being able to hear with both ears again. The improvements since his accident in 84, meant he did not have to have another surgery to get his hearing back in the right ear.

A point for mom!! I had been trying to get him to get another hearing test for several years, but he was convinced without the surgery they had done on his left ear he would not be able to hear. The advances in digital hearing aids sure helped him.

Wow, Jeannine I am so happy about the hearing aid, not about the colds though. I hope they are short lived.. Sounds like you need a nurse.. (((Jeannine)))

So, how is the hearing aid working out?? Does Michael like it? Is the TV still blasting?? Has your house gotten quieter.. :)

as usual, the mention of chemicals brings lots of people out in a ignorance rash. The issue here is one of information which is either deliberately obscure and opaque, or refers users to 'our website' (as if) or is printed in munuscule characters somewhere hidden on the labels (if at all, in fact). As long as we are kept in the dark by chemical manufacturers, we are going to continue to see misuse through lack of information or (worse) an ingrained belief that we, the general public, are being played for fools. Only this week, I have discovered that Clopyralid/amypyralid is now used for the home gardener in herbicides for killing broad leaved plants. Where 2,4,D was used in the past, manufacturers have switched to the cheaper clopyralid despite well known effects concerning the tenacity of its effects and resistance to either heat or long-term composting. It is becoming risky to put ANYTHING either in or on the soil without being absolutely sure of its provenance. We need clear and unbiased information so we can decide for ourselves what risks (if any) we are prepared to take and what price we are willing to pay. Hiding info in a morass of badly conducted research (often conducted by agencies which already have an agenda and are therefore compromised) is of no use to anyone. Rather than arguing for blanket bans, we should be demanding access to clear labelling with all ingredients listed (and not the usual greenwash- bio, natural, eco and so on).

Henry, That is good information considering RRD is wiping out Knockout roses. I see it on plantings all over the place.It looks like the Knockouts will get knocked out! Our Rose Society went on a garden walk at the University Of Illinois gardens. One of our members saw a big planting of Knockout roses. They were all infected real bad. The Horticulturist in charge didn't know what it was!!!!!! They are removing them because the Master Gardeners have a rose garden less than a 1/4 mile away!

Because of this board I bought a DeDetrich 5 burner and I couldn't be happier. I had to add a whole 60 amp circuit to my kitchen, but I've had the cooktop about 15 months and I love it. It has a sleek, shallow rim of stainless, which is very unobtrusive and looks great on my flamed black granite countertops (modern and Japanese kitchen, very minimal). I would never have found DeDetrich without you guys, or probably even have seriously considered induction, so thanks. When we remodeled I put in a gas line in the island just in case I regretted the induction decision, but fortunately I won't be needng it. I always do water-boiling demos for my fascinated friends at dinner parties. Puts a new spin on 'a watched pot never boils'.

Nice to see Prevention offering an article written by a traditional doctor/cardiologist. I think there is a connection. Though mostly because of GMO's and the genetic engineering that is being done to so much of our food supply. Gee that is the first question his sisters asked "is the tv quieter?" So far he is doing well. It takes some getting used to, being able to hear with both ears.
The only problem is he cannot put it in his ear or take it out. But that is what Mom the Caregiver is for.
They did say the batteries will last only about 2-3 weeks, anyone deal with a hearing aid here, and it that about the correct length of time?

My dear friend needs hearing aids in both ears. I think that she replaces her batteries even more often than that. When she lived in the same town I do, I would give her any coupons that I found in the paper for them. She always had an extra battery with her in case one of hers failed while she was out.

The tech. that handles the hearing aid, told us to shop at smaller stores, not WalMart, RadioShack, and those. He said they order the batteries from the main office. Smaller stores, order for themselves, so they are fresher.
Sorta made sense.
I know you can take the battery out of the aid, but I am not sure I would do that, I think I will see how long these last before I do anything.

Jeannine, Hope you all are over your colds. We have had alot of the flu around this area...thank the Lord Mom and Dad have not gotten it...they did get flue shots...good news that Mike is doing well with hearing aides. Sure wish Dad could wear them....his hearing is getting really bad. I go down and the T.V. is so loud. Take care...be good to you. Blessings, Nora
