Personally, I wouldn't do it, but probably because we had it on our kitchen walls and couldn't wait to get it out. - it had these nasty edges of metal/nails that that were finishing the edges between it and the countertop (as well as between any "joints" like corners), and while the white probably looked nice in the beginning, had yellowed in places over time. Maybe it would be different in a laundry room, but to us it looked really not so nice. Does the area need to be waterproof? Or just look nice? And it does depend on your style. the laminate may look really good with a very modern style - the kitchen we ripped it out of had very dark cherry cabinets against the white laminate, with white laminate very poor condition countertops. If the cabinets are more traditional, I think that bead board dresses up an area much more than laminate, and is fairly inexpensive at any of the big box stores like Lowes/Home Depot. Graham & Brown manufactures "wall doctor paintables" of bead board wallpaper - fairly inexpensive at $25 a double roll - you could paint it in any color you wanted, and use it elsewhere in the room. It evens out any imperfections in the wall as well. I'm probably not the right person to ask, and I hope that someone answers you in the affirmative - we just had such difficulties ripping the sheet laminate off the wall - it was on firmly with some dark brown adhesive,(which had squeezed between the sheets which were not visible until we pulled out the stove) and tended to shatter into sharp edges when prying it off. greenhaven, you may have the solution. I never thought about that, but the BS has a metal edge. I think I'll see if it fits upside down, although I'm pretty sure the 'lip' isn't deep enough to cover those mistakes. PhoneLady, I totally spaced out your recommendation. Bad, bad of me. I used a craigslist guy who certainly ran a good sales game. I am so mad, I will do my best to put him out of business. Not only did he do a rotten job, he took 2 boxes of tile that I bought - and DH's bluetooth speaker. He will live to regret it. We can't fix the range hood, but I did find a new GE Adora micro at a liquidation center for a mere hundred bucks. Still, it's money I didn't need to spend.

Noting that we put in granite counters when we reno'd the kitchen, I still have to plug laminate. Our laminate was installed in 1971 and I'm pretty sure it was never actual Formica. It was white. Not only did we do lots of cooking and baking on it, we also used the peninsula for a myriad of arts and crafts projects. All the little dresses and shorts and quilts were made there. I clamped my wood carving project to the counter and chiseled away right there in the kitchen! After 40 years I had exactly 2 tiny chips in 47 sq. ft. of counter and no stains. A little 409 or whatever and a sponge took everything right out: red paint, cranberry juice, tumeric, anything. Right at the end we had a bit of de-lamination on the vertical piece right next to the stove. We also had a couple of edge chips from DW installation (the floor got higher over the years). On the day we ripped it out it was as pristinely white as it was when we moved in in 1974. Talk about a workhorse! We did put in granite and I love it, but I would have no problem installing laminate again. In your case because you have an entire tribe of kiddos who might not be as careful as your are, I would give it real consideration. Granite is good, quartz is good, but it's possible that laminate might be best in your case.

If budget were the issues, I'd cut other places (and did) to put granite in. Well worth it, it's great to cook on and no more looking at those spots where someone either forgot to use a cutting board, or accidentally stained or burned (which will happen, it's just a question of when). Undermount sinks (made possible by granite) make sweeping crumbs/excess water back into the sink soooooo easy and no more gunk building up at that edge. It really isn't just about looks. We also had a realtor come and price our house before our kitchen renovation, and she (a top realtor in our area) increased the sell price of our house citing the granite countertop we used in our basement kitchen, saying something about it being a high dollar look-- which was funny but telling because we used in-stock cabinets from a big-box store in that downstairs kitchen -- but that's what granite does. You can think of it as $1500 you're putting in upfront but likely to get back when/if you sell, you might as well get it and enjoy it if it doesn't actually cost you much (if anything) in the bigger picture. Also be sure you carry in competitor's ads on the granite, we got a much better price by bringing a flyer to our local granite yard and asking for the $35/sq ft installed price they were offering (they knocked it down from $50). You might be able to get that gap even smaller. Kris
