The one thing I wish we had was a 'mail' area. I cannot stand having 'non-food' and 'non-eating' items in our new kitchen area. Things like mail, bills ready to be paid, keys, lunchboxes, pens, the newspaper etc. drive me nuts when somebody leaves them on the countertop. If we had a desktop closer to the door, all that 'stuff' would have an official home. From the picture, a full size cabinet would require you to move the plug (which is a PITA if you don't like drywall work). The height of a desktop would be lower than regular cabinet height so you wouldn't have to move it. The buffet idea works too because the height would not have to match your existing counter. If it was a 'floating' top, you'd have room underneath for slippers,a folding stepstool, umbrella stand, or bins to put stuff into.

Warning Warning Warning.....this thread could get funny!!!! (We've done the toilet decor thread before and it was beyond hilarious). Anyone want to bring up poop spray or shall we leave that alone????? :oP OK now really....I like art above a toilet verses towels in a powder room because I don't want to lean over the toilet to dry my hands. I prefer a small towel rack or ring next to the sink so you don't have to move away from the sink to complete your tasks there. I've had different things...a venetian mirror, oil paintings, Midevil writings. My current master has a toilet mirror (a handing mirror with a box area below it that opens to a velvet box for storage where I keep extra TP). I'm not of the opinion that you can ever have too much art :) Stack them on top of each other and totally fill the walls :) It's a great look for a powder room.

Looks like your sofa is going to stay where it is, unless you can face it towards the sliding door. There needs to be enough room to walk beside it, of course. If it's staying where it is, I'd rearrange some of your wall art and mirrors. I like the Gumby but not in that space. I suggest using the art that you have in the hallway area, above the sofa. Then move the mirror from above the fireplace and place it near the sliding door above the end table. You can see in your photo that the wall where the end table is, is the brightest wall in your photo. Having a mirror there will reflect the light into the house, and from some angles you'll have a nice view of the outdoors. I have a mirror in exactly the same place in my house, and it really does reflect light into the rest of the room. Where you have a mirror now, above the fireplace, it doesn't reflect light because it's a dark interior wall. I'd put the Gumby near the entrance to the house, near your front door. Can you show us the wall where the stroller is parked? It creates a nice impression to see a bright, fun piece of art as the first thing you see when you enter a house.

Too bad there is no cabinet over the refrigerator or next to it. The shelf look awkward. Can you lower it or use it somewhere else? Look like on of the pendents is missing a glass shade. Do you have it or can you get a replacement? I like the posters. Maybe one bold one over the wood cabinets. If you get rid of the shelf, you could hang a poster over the refrigerator. But the space looks good empty, too.
