Jackie is adorable. She and Sadie look very much alike, too. How cute. Loved your stories about their hunts. Great farm dogs. My daughter has a Jack Russell/Dachshund mix. Her name is Gretchen, but I call her "shrew". She is ferocious with wild things, and nearly killed one of my hens too! The more we yelled at her to stop, the more excited she got about getting rid of that critter that undoubtedly was some kind of threat. (she didn't know it was part of the family). She was still snapping and twisting trying to get loose when I picked her up by her tail. Geez! She is a wonderful family dog though. Very good with the baby. I call her my grand-dog. "Grannie's little girl". She and my big Rough Collie were best friends when they still lived here in Okie. It was hilarious to watch them play. Gretchen ran circles around Angus. We have a female Blue Tick Hound dog too. Her name is Bonnie Belle. She was a stray...from the neighbor's across the road. She wouldn't stay home, so she came to live here permanently. She liked us better (Like we needed a coon dog). But she is very sweet. What a pretty and sweet girl. Love her big brown eyes. Once we get the acreage entirely fenced in, we will be able to let her loose. My god she loves to run! Have you ever seen the movie, "Funny Farm"? Well, she is like the first dog that guy bought for his wife. She never stops running! She loves Angus, but she does not like Shep whatsoever. Snarls at him. Ruh roh! Mama bunnies leave their babies for quite awhile during the day. If I were you I'd make one last visit and remove the dead baby. I guess it's the one with blood on its bottom. Then leave the nest and don't visit again. When you visit the nest you leave a scent trail for other predators.

It's definitely not a cat species as typically they don't register claw marks. I'm no expert but based on your location, the size of the tracks and the pattern of the gait, my best guess is a Fisher, or Marten. Fisher more likely because of the size of the track and overlapping prints...and especially the pic of the tracks where it jumped the fence. Many times if the snow is deep enough, you'll see the tail impression in the snow. Google Fisher tracks in the snow for comparison.

Wow! It sounds kind of gory, and possibly dangerous to your pets and son! I can't give you any advice on what kind of animal may do this, but I would certainly buy an inexpensive security camera and set it up so that you can watch your yard and maybe capture the action so you can identify the culprit. We have 2 security cameras hooked up to a small TV that we keep on by the big screen, it just brings in live feed so we can watch the driveway and the front door area. Its not every expensive to set up either. Linda
