Meet Jackie....

This is Jackie, she is the runt of a litter of pups we had. Sadie is her mother and is a small Jack Russell Terrior. Her father is a very small Chihuahua named Jose. Jose belongs to one of my uncles. He is larger than Jackie. There were four pups total in this liter. The other three are slightly larger than Jackie but still much smaller than their mother. Jackie is will be six months old later this week. She currently weighs 20 Oz. She has gained quite a bit since we switched her to puppy chow. Regular dog food is apparently to big for her to chew, though the pieces seem small to me. Or maybe it just tastes better. Ha! She loves riding in cars and lays on my forearm when we travel. She doesn't do much for keeping your feet warm at night. LOL!

Sadie is two years old, a lousy rabbit hunter, and very very needy, meaning she thinks she has to lay up on your chest with her paws wrapped around your neck. It wouldn't be so bad but her claws scratch you while she is getting into this position. Then she proceeds to lick and clean your ears. It makes it a little hard to watch a TV show. She is an excellent mother though and has taught little Jackie how to hunt and how to go for the throat for the kill. We have one other Jack Russell named Babe, who is an excellent rabbit hunter. She however hate getting rabbit fur in her mouth so she gives all her kills to the other dogs. We also have a Blue Tick coon hound who has adopted little Jackie and has taught her how to go down in the holes and chase the coons out. So far this spring the dogs have done battle with a porcupine and a skunk. We're still pulling quills out of poor Sadie as they surface. Such is the life of a country dog.

Oh.. so sweet. I love both jack russells and chihuahuas...

I can tell you a hilarious story about our male chihuahua, Bombie who went nuts over Dutchess, the Dalmation. Try as he must, he couldn't get to Dutchess, whether she stood, or she layed down. He looked like a mouse on an elephant. Sadly, they are both gone now.. They were my childhood pets.

I've always gotten into Morning and Evening Silflay and would tell the garden rabbits when it was safe to go eat! The kids get sick of hearing it. Bet I get to say it once more on the day I croak----just to irk the kids!!! Earth Day (I believe Saturday, April 24?) will be another planting event in upper Manhattan for their Historic Rose District. No conference associated with this event. November (exact dates to be decided) -- HRF conference in New Orleans. Details to come later. June 2011 (exact dates to be decided) conference in Lyon France. Oh, I think I may have accosted the same guy and accused him of being Bobthewizard! He must have really wondered why people were calling him Bob? LOL. It sure would have been great to have met up with some of you! I looked for you Lynn! It was a great time watching everyone grabbing plants. I nearly stole a Queen Amber from some poor guy who was actually in line! He had so many plants around him I thought it was a display! LOL sorry to the guy in line:). Hum....I know who stole my Tesla Girl! Lnorigb...LOL. Great find I love that one! Queen Amber was really popular and I think gone 40 minutes into the open house! It is so much better in person, the photos I've seen just dont do it justice! Luckily, I snagged one! No, not from the guy in line:) So sorry to have missed y'all. But you know how it goes, the open house is like a feeding frenzy and once you get zeroed in on the plants the rest of the world fades away! I agree with lnorigb we need to get organized! :) Nicole

Oh, she's precious! I can't imagine a 1.25# pup - Katie was 2.50# when I brought her home at 9 weeks and I was scared to death I'd 'break' her! I so love little critters!

Katie Beaglette, now three and a half, was the so-called runt too (we resemble that remark!) - now at a sleek 10.5#, very small for a beagle, I call her my portable dog ..... travel size ..... trial size ..... perpetual puppy size! :o)

Precious baby! they are small on the outside only. Mentally they are giants.
I once had a Peke chihuahua mix. She followed me every where. Once I stopped to see a great dane and she looked up at her and growled. I couldn't decide if she was brave or stupid, but she was going to protect me.

Jackie is adorable. She and Sadie look very much alike, too. How cute.

Loved your stories about their hunts. Great farm dogs.
My daughter has a Jack Russell/Dachshund mix. Her name is Gretchen, but I call her "shrew". She is ferocious with wild things, and nearly killed one of my hens too! The more we yelled at her to stop, the more excited she got about getting rid of that critter that undoubtedly was some kind of threat. (she didn't know it was part of the family). She was still snapping and twisting trying to get loose when I picked her up by her tail. Geez! She is a wonderful family dog though. Very good with the baby. I call her my grand-dog. "Grannie's little girl". She and my big Rough Collie were best friends when they still lived here in Okie. It was hilarious to watch them play. Gretchen ran circles around Angus.

We have a female Blue Tick Hound dog too. Her name is Bonnie Belle. She was a stray...from the neighbor's across the road. She wouldn't stay home, so she came to live here permanently. She liked us better (Like we needed a coon dog). But she is very sweet. What a pretty and sweet girl. Love her big brown eyes. Once we get the acreage entirely fenced in, we will be able to let her loose. My god she loves to run! Have you ever seen the movie, "Funny Farm"? Well, she is like the first dog that guy bought for his wife. She never stops running!

She loves Angus, but she does not like Shep whatsoever. Snarls at him. Ruh roh!

Anyway, Your little Jackie is a beautiful Pup.
