When I use to go to the So Cal Plumie Society Meetings I would always go to the Prado after, my FAV place around there and still go when I am in SD.
My top favs Chicken Jidori order it 75% of the time, Calimari Fries with Korean Gochuchang sauce (Taste kind of Chinese not that spicy), Whole Grain muscles with white wine and herb sauce, Chipotle Glazed pork ribs, Cilantro Rock Shrimp Chile Relleno, Shrimp Cocktail, Red & Gold Baby Beet Salad, Pan Roasted sea bass, Mustard Crusted Pork Prime Rib , Prado Paella, Harissa Spiced Duck Breast,Red Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs. These are my fav regular items and they are the BOMB.. I am not much of a Seafood eater but do order it @ the Prado when I am there and in the mood.

Why are y'all going all the way to Balboa park its like 30 to 35 min away from Vista? The Aviara Four Seasons Hotels has a nice restaurant or the club house and its close in Carlsbad. If you want casual but delicious There is the Village Kitchen & Pie Shoppe on Tamarack. Everything is made from scratch and is delicious but very Americana home style Breakfasts, Burgers (meat ground and hand formed there to order), Pot Pies, Chicken n Dumplings, Soups, Pies are made from scratch tastes home made and delicious, they have BBQ sometimes you see the smoker in the parking lot...Right off the freeway so convenient and delicious..my spot when I want quick and Americana comfort food.

I might have to rethink this and maybe meet for food..lol

I'm in north/east SD county so I'll be there, hopefully at close to opening time... gotta do it early cuz of a BD party I have to help with later in the day. Hoping to bring the wifey along too....

James, I was thinking the same thing. You can go to Prado in Sept for the SD Plumeria Sale since it's right there... but I wouldn't hike all the way to SD from Vista with all my plumies in the trunk! LOL.

That would depends on what you're looking for. If you want the collector's or premium varieties which John doesn't have many of then the answer is no.

But if you just want the more general mass produced varieties then there will still be some left maybe. But judging from last year the ones that either were blooming or had inflos were gone first. So it can be pretty hectic.

Besides, I wasn't aware JJ's open on Sunday?

I thought it was Sat.&Sun. 9-3...I looked up the weather...not too hot either. Think I will not force the drive.roxanne

John has put a ton of work into organizing the grounds and tagging everything. It looks great, and it'll be a lot easier to find plants. I saw some of the blooms yesterday... wow.

Well I got in and out with minimal damage to my wallet... and picked up a Tai Surprise,,,

My wife thankfully kept me from going too crazy... she commented that she saw many people with hundreds of dollars worth of new plumies for their collections. That would have been me too... heheh. Two of my three boys really enjoyed looking at all the different varieties there too (the 3rd one could have cared less... lol).

She liked the "Devine" alot... I need to find a small one to add to my collection too.

There were a lot of people there. Next time I go to an event were some of you are, I'll need to plan to meet up with someone... It'd be nice to meet you all.

Ok,ok, I was one of those people your wife noticed with an excessive number of plants at JJs! Sorry to have missed you. I accosted a man with a grey ponytail and accused him of being BobTheWizard but he was only quite puzzled. Definitely not you.

It was great to meet some FB and gardenweb friends, especially Lnorigb! Diana was incredibly helpful with her magic decoder info and her recommendations, it was much appreciated.

Next, the rooted plant sale in SD!

What a pleasure to meet new friends in a great environment!! Truth be told, I did prefer the AC at *$ more. =)
5 new babies: Cherokee Geisha, Jackie, Grace, Divine (cos all you lot have one and I want to fit in!), and finally Tesla Girl. That's the closest I'll prolly ever get to having my own Tesla! I ADORE the new model S, I covet so badly...
are you lot all on for the show in SD next? I hear we have to coordinate an attack plan! Lynn, I'm looking at you to whip us into a well rehearsed platoon.

It was a great time watching everyone grabbing plants. I nearly stole a Queen Amber from some poor guy who was actually in line! He had so many plants around him I thought it was a display! LOL sorry to the guy in line:). Hum....I know who stole my Tesla Girl! Lnorigb...LOL. Great find I love that one!

Queen Amber was really popular and I think gone 40 minutes into the open house! It is so much better in person, the photos I've seen just dont do it justice! Luckily, I snagged one! No, not from the guy in line:)

So sorry to have missed y'all. But you know how it goes, the open house is like a feeding frenzy and once you get zeroed in on the plants the rest of the world fades away!

Bob - I too fell for Tai Surprise. She's a true beauty but she didn't make it this past winter for me. :( I got her at the SD Sales last Sept so I think she was simply too young and thus fell victim to frost.

Sorry Nicole I didn't make it. LOL @ your attempt at stealing Queen Amber. But I get it... if I were to steal any it would be Queen Amber. She's fast becoming my top 10 plumie. I can't stop looking at her. She's truly beautiful isn't she? Congrats on your beauty!
